I would hope everyone here knows the difference between criticism about a video/technique and a personal attack. WTH is "vocal fry" anyway? Around 0:30 she demonstrates it, and then she does it by accident a few sentences later

I agree it was a crap comment. Unfortunately, Kristina is incapable of just deleting and moving on. As demonstrated in the past, she clearly gets off on the stroking she receives from fans by highlighting a negative comment.
Sandy Allnock has it right, she doesn’t want her comments to devolve into a fight.
It makes me curious about the falling out between Kristina and Sandy at CHA a few years ago. Kristina is immature enough for me to wonder if it was about her ego as implied by some comments at the time.

I really liked Sandy's level headed approach- thanks for posting that riley I don't normally watch her videos. I have to say, it was somewhat amusing to hear her talking about the need for people to be "stroked", and I appreciate that she accepts feedback but deletes it to prevent the fangirls defending frenzy. And then to see the KW post and the now 100+ comments on her page doing exactly that, stroking. I'm not saying the comment was appropriate, it most definitely was not (and I also had to look up Vocal Fry, lol) but it seems like a perfect case where deleting it and moving on is the best course of action, rather than dwelling on it.

Around 0:30 she demonstrates it, and then she does it by accident a few sentences later Ah thanks. I don't think I would notice that very much. I didn't notice at all when the person in that video did it by accident. I guess if it was pronounced and done over and over I might notice. What does bother me is how some people's voices go up at the end of a sentence. Almost as if they're asking a question. Not enough to leave a comment on it and probably not enough to keep me from watching a short video with it.

The only reason to repost that comment is to sit back and bask in the warmth of your fangirls defending you. (For the record, I don't find her voice particularly annoying, and I don't really notice vocal fry - but I do find her videos annoying for some reason I can't quite put my finger on. So I don't watch them anymore.) Sandy Allnock, though? I thoroughly enjoy her videos, even though I know that I couldn't replicate a lot of what she does - the one linked above, where she draws in the entire scene with a swimming pool and diving board and bushes and then shows the 2nd with the same stamps in the same place, but she drew in a Christmas scene. So much fun to watch

Okay, what Pea was this? That's hysterical. Both the comment and Kristina's ridiculous whining about it on whatever service she whined about it. She really should speak to someone about her need to respond to ridiculous w/ridiculous. Makes her appear as petulant as the original commenter.

Okay, what Pea was this? I don't think that's a great way to comment so I'm hoping it's not someone here - calling someone a moron and low IQ (what? no. please, no) just isn't helpful, especially not if you want them to change their behavior. But what does KW gain by sharing this? A flood of people telling her she's awesome and great and there's nothing wrong with her voice and stroking her ego, and slamming this person and everyone else who dares to agree that, yeah, KW your voice is annoying to some people. As I said, I don't agree with the way she worded her comment, but there's also no need whip up a lot of hate and turn your followers on her. Bad form, IMO (if I may be permitted to have one). Yeah they lost all credibility by calling her a moron and low IQ. They should be ashamed of themselves.

So much fun to watch I don't watch KW's videos anymore because I don't like the long ass intros...plus, the face to face stuff just makes me uncomfortable. There are only a few people I can handle seeing f2f on videos...I even hide most selfies (because they are REALLY big images of people's faces) people post on Facebook for the same reason. If I do watch KW's videos because I like the look of the project, I pause it at the start and find the point where it goes to her hands and skip all the stuff I don't like at the beginning.

Not enough to leave a comment on it and probably not enough to keep me from watching a short video with it. Some people do it a lot - I learned about it in the Ali Edwards thread because she has it realllly bad. It seems to be like fingernails on a chalkboard for some people and not to so much for others. I spotted several videos asking if it was bad for your voice when I was looking for this one so I guess it's something quite a few people are interested in/talking about. I guess in this age of vlogging people are more aware of it. I think it can sound like your voice is shredded, and women seem to get a lot more flak for it than men. Uptalk - the other thing you mentioned - is also a big topic. It's more common amongst women and certain groups of people - I think NZ and Australians do it a lot (I'm from NZ and remember hearing a lot of scolding about it). People often hate it because it makes the person sound uncertain and a lot of people find it "unprofessional" but I think like any other vocal habit, it bothers some people more than others.

I don't follow KW but I think she must post these kinds of pleas for ego stroking and outrage pretty regularly... The way she says that she doesn't even feel like she needs to blur the name - so usually when she posts she does - does that mean she posts these to her followers all the time? Kinda pathetic. Why not just ignore, delete, or laugh and move on? Or vent privately to your actual friends?

I do think that some of her affiliates are. She seems a bit naive from the few videos I have watched. I think I watched one or two. Just because you are highly intelligent doesn't mean you are not naive. I'd give her more credit. She is extremely intelligent and worked in the corporate world before going full time in the craft world.
I did laugh at the comment, but it was because of how it was stupid and terrible!
The only time I've noticed vocal fry is when it's combined with a nasally voice. Like the TV show The Nanny. I know a family IRL with the same issue. No strong NY accent though.

I watch KW occasionally but I fast forward the face to face parts and put closed captions on and turn off the volume. I’ve heard much worse vocal fry than hers though. Maybe it was just a bot or a troll or one of those 14 year old boys. Seems like just deleting would have been a better strategy.

That comment was a doozy. I don't follow or watch KW or SA and don't know anything about any conflict between them. I watched a few seconds of KW's recent videos but didn't hear any vocal fry on those. I'll just ditto joblackford. The comment was obviously not meant to leave constructive criticism. It was meant to be mean but KW didn't need to share it. If someone's videos bother you that much don't watch. If their voice bothers you watch their videos on mute. Why not avoid something that annoys you? I just unsubscribed from someone who started putting 4 or 5 ads in her videos. Annoyance over. It's that easy.

I cannot remember where I read it, but there was a theory that JM decided not show a tour of her craft room because Sandy Allock made a comment that some crafters felt they needed to have these expensive craft rooms due to crafting YTubers and she tried to reassure people that they can be creative without the fancy equipment or huge crafting space and to work with what they have or can afford. Later, JM released a video of her craft room the same time as KW and Kathy R and that they wanted to show the different "styles" of craft rooms. I used to be a huge JM fan but lately her videos are so long and I feel as though it is more about selling products than the actual techniques. But in reading the comments below her videos, her fans really like her long videos. I also may have been turned off by JM's loyalty to the MISTI, especially when someone asked if she could do a review of the TH stamping platform and other similar tools, and she responded that she was really happy with the Misti and was not planning to use any other similar tools. Interestingly, she promoted several different die-cutting machines, inks etc. Yes, her video on her "favorite stamps and dies of 2018" had items that she has never used yet but still made the list. Honestly though, I do admit the less videos of JM I watch, the less likely I buy crafting supplies I suddenly feel I need. She is a great salesperson. I agree with others that the comment by the viewer to KW's voice is uncalled for but she could just take the high road and delete it and not give any attention to it since it seems to be just a random hateful comment that should not be taken seriously. KW's decision to post about it tells me she has insecurity issues, and knew that her fans would defend her and re-affirm "how wonderful" she is. She got what she wanted.

If you mostly watch on a computer, adblock is a great addon. They were paid by FB to not block their ads, but it still works on other platforms like Pandora and YouTube. I haven't really investigated mobile options, though. There are other addons that work for FB ads now but again, haven't investigated them myself.

Oh, so that's vocal fry. I think Ali Edwards and Julie Fei-Fan Balzer do it a lot more than KW. It grates on my nerves, physically, and I can't listen to more than 5 - 10 minutes of it. Putting that aside, the comment was very nasty and uncalled-for. A mature grown-up, though, would have just moved on and not called attention to it. This was an obvious attempt by KM to garner some ego stroking and worship. Pathetic really.

I'm aware of it and can definitely hear it when I listen back to my recordings and videos, but I don't even know that I'm doing when I'm speaking.

I used to try watching ones where I already owned the stamp or die (or something very similar) but lately it feels like she packs so many products into each video that that won't work any more. I know I'm easily influenced so I prefer to limit my consumption of her advertising.

There is a speech pattern that drives me nuts. The person that I first noticed it with's name is/was Loving Life's Little Blessings or something like that on YouTube. I don't mean any offense because it's probably not something they do intentionally, but sometimes things just bother you. I'm only listing her name because I'm curious if someone can listen to one of her videos and tell me what that speech pattern is and I'm not the best at giving descriptions. The best I can come up with is an over enunciation of consonants at the end of a word, usually the last word in a sentence. Nest would be nes-t-uh (the uh is throaty and depending on the person can also end in a higher pitch, too) or something close to that. I can handle the vocal fry, but this particular sound is nails on a chalkboard to me. The channel mentioned is the worst I've ever heard it and I had stumbled upon it over and over while searching for stuff in the past (predominantly PL core kit flip throughs) and I had to make a note to not click on any videos from that channel because it bothered me so much...which is why I can point to that channel as a reference whenever I think about this particular sound. There are others with the same habit, but it seems to be quieter/less noticeable or less frequent and therefore tolerable, but in cases where every sentence ends like this, it is up there in terms of sounds that I cannot stand (and I've developed a lot of issues with certain sounds in the past few years).
Again, I know it sounds cruel to call someone out and I'm not meaning to, but the curiosity in me just really wants to know if there is an actual name for it so I don't have to describe it EVERY time I think of it. The description just seems like it would be something difficult to google (and my ears might not be able to tolerate listening to examples to find it, lol).

I don’t know of any label for that speech pattern. It immediately reminded me of the Miss Teen USA girl that said something like, ‘I personally believe that because-uh some-uh people out there in our nation-uh...’ She was from South Carolina. Maybe it’s common in that area? I don’t know.

There are other addons that work for FB ads now but again, haven't investigated them myself. For blockers, the best that I've seen is uBlock Origin. The Origin part is important, there's another one that's just 'UBlock' but isn't nearly as good. Blocks pretty much all the annoyances and very customizable for advanced users. Still works perfectly well on the default settings. I'd never browse without it. Any goodwill advertising agencies had was worn out for me a LONG time ago, when they started to pull all the annoying and malicious crap like pop-ups, pop-unders, auto-downloaders, auto-play and spyware/malware. No thank you, my lovely computer is expensive enough that I'm not going to risk it for your 0.1¢ of revenue, no matter how much you beg. The only people who killed the advertising market are the advertisers.
