What an amazing idea. A childhood friend teaches preschool and had an idea about having people sponsor a child for scholastic books. She said that they offer books each month for as little as $1 but some parents still can't afford to buy them. She asked for volunteers to sponsor a child for $9 so they could get 1 book a month the entire school year. The first 3 people that commented, sponsored her entire class and everyone else donated to help stock her classroom with books. I love seeing people help teachers out!

Oh my goodness...thank you, peas! This is the most amazing thread! I do have to say I am so humbled when people help buy supplies for my classroom. I teach middle school Family and Consumer Sciences (home ec!) - my school calls it "Home Arts". My school supplies are (so fun) completely different than when I taught first grade! Home Arts Amazon Wish List

I am not sure why when I try to order, it wants to ship to me. Others from this thread are 'showing' as a gift registry. Not sure why yours isn't I don't know why...try this link
Thanks for trying!

One of my friends posted at Thanksgiving a list of her students (as numbers) on FB. She asked her friends to donate a favorite child's book and a special message to any number they chose. Within a week, all of her FB friends had picked a number off of the list and sent a donated new book. I thought it was a really great way to get kids books in their hands and encourage reading.

I had a bunch of scholastic points from when I taught and she works at a small school. I was able to provide 2 months worth of books for the whole school!

I would stop by and ask the school secretary what supplies the school/classroom has. That way you are getting things you know aren't available. Your secretary might take pity on you and get you some things early too. I was surprised that I had to buy almost everything.

I chatted with the school today and I will have almost nothing to get me started... I need to buy everything! The school is in a low income(ish) and I was told not to ask for too many supplies because the kids won’t provide them. My list is mostly basics to make sure we can get through the first few months with labs and have the supplies we need.

Someone will see it and see the need for it. I second Donor's Choose! They have a code they will send to you that will match whatever the amount other people donate. I just checked and there are several that are for 'never funded'. If you need help, please ask! I have been awarded many wonderful items through this program.

It won’t bring in anyone who isn’t a teacher or parent to school-age kids. Start another thread with a more enticing title, and link this thread in the OP. Then make sure it gets bumped regularly. I’ll help.

Ugh. I can’t figure out how to get the item to ship to someone else. Generally when I purchase off a wish list I have the option to ship to their address and I just don’t see that.

What a wonderful thread. Wish I could afford to help; I am contributing to our local Stock The Lockers campaign, though.

Their address should show up when you click to check out. If you click on their link, their list pops up so it should be there. Took me a couple tries to get one address to show up

As a teacher, I love love love this!
If you don’t already have your amazon as an amazon smile, you can set it to donate to a school too! Costs you nothing and the school of your choice (if they signed up, mine has not so it’s going to my ds preschool) gets a certain percentage. It’s not a lot but if lots of people set it up, it adds up.

So, I just went to see if my address shows if you try to buy something and everything on my list is gone!
I can't believe how fabulous you all are, you've brought tears to my eyes! My DH doesn't teach in the summer and our budget is tight so picking up the extras I know I need for school is tough.
Thank you Christine58 (I don't know how to tag) for setting this up and thank you to everyone who has purchased items to help educate our kids!! You're all the best!
