Yes, I'm really late to the party, only because I've just resisted. But Star Trek has taught me that resistance is futile! Couple that with the friend I have who writes historical romance and they're only available on Kindle...I'm fixin' to cross to the dark side. Those of you who have a Kindle...which version do you have? What are the pros and cons? Where can I get the best deal? (She's sent me e-mail files of her first three books so I have hard copies of those) And her name is Ria Cantrell and her series is Celtic Storm, for those of you who may ask.

Change is the essential process of all existence - Mr. Spock I have the 2nd gen (DH uses), the 3rd generation (for me), a Kindle Fire (that my Dad just started using and will probably keep) and I JUST pre-ordered the new Voyage. I prefer the e-ink screen for reading (that's why Dad is using the Fire). I also only buy the 3G version. Just because I travel and never want to be without a good book. But there is a $79 or $99 version that is WiFi only. ETA: that the cheapest version $79 does not have a light so you will need a book light for night reading. The paperwhite has a built in light. I have friends who have the PW and love it. The Voyage supposedly has a better display and an adaptive light (it changes based on the ambient light) The PW and V come in WiFi only or 3G and WiFi.

I have a Paperwhite and love it. I had the first Paperwhite and then bought the second one when it came out because the backlight was brighter. Now I am eyeing the Voyage only because I like new stuff. It is an improved version of the Paperwhite. I have WiFi only because you only need internet to download books. I just make sure that it is loaded with what ever books I think I might read, before I go anywhere that does not have WiFi.

I have the paperwhite and I love it. I have the Wi-Fi only version, since as mentioned you only need it to download the books and I have a ton of books on there that I haven't even read yet. I have the version with the ads, wasn't sure if I'd hate that or not but it was cheaper. The ads aren't intrusive at all, you only see them as a screensaver when the kindle is inactive.
We have two older versions that require a book light, and DS has the Fire though he hasn't used it since he got his laptop and iPhone. I should probably donate the ones we don't use!

I have a Kindle Fire - mine is about 2 years old, and I finally succumbed like you when an author I like did a lot of digital only books. I am glad I did it, and use it mostly for reading, although when I travel if I there is wireless, I can get email, and internet access. Recently when I went to visit my brother, I took it, and I ended up reading 4 books while I was there - if I had to carry books, I would have probably run out the 2nd day I was there.
I subscribe to daily emails from The Fussy Librarian, Ereader News, and BookBub - they all let me choose what kinds of books I like and send info on books that are bargain priced (under $3.99 or less) and have found a lot of books and authors I would never have found otherwise. About once a month I put a $25 gift card on my amazon account to cover my kindle purchases

I had an older version without a light and swtiched to the Paperwhite about a year ago. LOVE it! If you are buying one for reading, I highly recommend the Paperwhite.

I have a second generation Kindle that I used and loved for years. Never had a problem with it and it still works fine but I upgraded to a Paperwhite last spring. Love it too.

I had a 2nd generation and loved it. My kids upgraded me to a touch a couple of years ago. Love it even more. Love my kindles so much that over the years, Ive gotten them as gifts for two of my daughters, my hubby, and each of my parents. I am now coveting my daughters paper white. I may have a problem.

I have a Paperwhite and love it! It is easy to read in both low light situations and bright sunlight. I read so much more now that I have an e-reader than I did with paper books. It is easier on my eyes as I get older!

I have the Kindle Fire. It was a birthday gift. I really like it because it is so light - much easier to travel with it than with a book (or books). It has facebook and email and other tablet features that i really like. I don't know if all Kindles are like this becasue it is the only one I have used, but it is full color, which appeals to me rather than B & W

Kindle Paperwhite here too, which I LOVE. Just recently used it on holiday without any glare at all from sunlight, which was perfect as I read a lot of books that week I didn't want to use it for anything other than reading so I only wi-fi for downloading the books and I always have a couple lined up ready for times when I might not be able to download anything.

I have the old kindle keyboard that's not available any more. Wifi only. Love it! Same, mine still works fine so no reason to upgrade. I don't know what is available now, but one of the kids did have a kindle fire. That had color, etc., which I don't like for reading. Mine has e-reader ink or something. Stick to a version just meant for reading if you can...much easier on the eyes!
