Well since the question was what gift would I like, not "Do you think my DD needs to give hostess gifts?", I am in the camp of a nice flower, GC for a spa pedicure or some Shari's Berries delivered and a handwritten card. That is plenty. No silly trinkets. Nobody needs yet another generic picture frame.

I think a hostess gift is a very nice idea. I wish I'd thought of it when I had showers hosted for me. I just went with a thank you but my friends went to a lot of trouble and expense. A gift would have been thoughtful.
I received a hostess gift for a shower I threw a few years later. It was a glass candle holder which I suppose many people would put in the 'too much stuff category' but I still have it in my bathroom and use it to hold cotton balls. Amazon gift card would be my gift suggestion. So many things are really hit and miss depending on the recipients tastes.
