Wow, Summer is going by fast. Not as many tag sales around my area as usual because the weather has been so extreme.
I went to an estate sale this morning which was just 3 streets away from my house. Imagine how disappointed I was when I got there 10 minutes before the start time and people were already getting into their cars with their purchases. Lots of antique furniture, sadly a bunch was smelly (things with drawers). I think it was because the house was closed, or perhaps it had been in the garage which has a dirt floor. The house is over 150 years old.
There was almost no "stuff" aka regular household stuff, the kind of stuff you use on a daily basis. The sale was run by a resale company. All of the small stuff didn't have price tags, which is of course the stuff I like. The daughter of the lady running it said they had already been working in the house for 2 weeks getting it ready for the sale. I'd love to know what they did with the regular stuff. I wonder if they filled a dumpster or if they tried selling some of it at a tag sale they had at their house the other week.
For our crafty peas, you would have been drooling over a box of unfinished quilt tops. A lady that I've talked about in the past, who goes to my tag sale multiple times per sale, bought it for $150.
Prices a little on the higher side but I did find a few things in my budget that I liked. I got:
- a vintage satin glass bowl for my sister who is just starting to get into satin glass. I'll save it for Christmas.
- Pyrex bowl for me.
- Victorian hand mirror which I will save for a gift. I think it would be lovely to use in a wedding preparation photo and then kept as a usable keepsake.
I hope to go back Saturday to see what's left and see how much/if any prices are reduced.
Good luck to anyone going out shopping this weekend!

I haven’t been to any sales in weeks. I did go to an auction with my SO last night and picked up a nice small server. I want it for my tv. I can hide the DVDs in it. I like that it won’t take up the entire wall. In great shape, just needs a waxing. Was $17.50

I stopped at The Salvation Army thrift store this week with dd after her inmunologist appointment. She did awesome! She's watching the Maze Runner series in her summer program and really wanted the books. Our plan was to go to B&N after the doctor and get her the first book or two with her gift card. We found the first 4 books if the series for under $1 each! She was able to get the last book at B&N so now has the whole series She also found a couple of shirts and a really cute dress that will be perfect for homecoming (keeping my fingers crossed that she goes now- this is extra incentive, trying to get her out of her comfort zone). Me and my daughter went to the outlet store yesterday. They had more overstock brand new Target kids clothing. I got a cute St. Patrick's Day t-shirt for $1.50 and a Thanksgiving shirt for $0.50!
My daughter found a lot of Star Wars stuff! I don't know the regular retail prices, but she does!
I got a bullet journal for $4.00. I don't know if it's a good deal, but the quality is good.
For grocery items, we got Lipton peach ice tea drinks for .25, Tic Tacs for 0.50, two different brands of granola for $1.50 each, $1.00 for Ghirardelli chocolate chips, $1.80 Hershey's cookies and cream chocolate chips, 0.75 for a 3 pack of Pop Secret microwave popcorn, $1.50 for Oreo O's cereal, and a 0.50 Snickers candy bar for me!
One of the Granola brands is Nut House Co. It retails for $8.99 a bag and it is DELICIOUS!
They had a lot of Pioneer Woman dishes there too. The boxes looked beat up, but I know they have a pretty decent return policy. They were $15.00. After looking at the regular prices online, it was a great deal!

refugeepea, you're making me hungry. That's one thing I've really missed by not going to my Saturday night auctions, snacks at bargain prices so I don't feel bad trying new things if I don't like them. Auction house is closed this Saturday for vacation, but there are a few decent sounding tag sales on Craigslist for the weekend.

This mornings find at garage sale: 4 easels and a brand new shadow box for $7. I dont know where I'm going to find more surfaces for pictures.
I'll probably make a gift with the shadow box.

I stopped back at the estate sale that I originally went to on Thursday. Today everything was half off. I should have gone when they first opened for the day. I only got 3 things:
- new in the package, vintage thumbtacks
- vintage wooden darner in a foot shape
- vintage school supply catalog dating in the 1960's. I gave it a sniff test at the house and couldn't smell anything. When I was flipping through it in the car it smelled a little musty. I'm going to air it out before I bring it in the house. I think it would be great to use pieces of it as background paper for school pictures. When I'm sure the odor is gone I'll go through it and post some of the product descriptions and their prices. I think you might find it as interesting as I did.
I paid $2 for all of it. They still had a lot of great things but nothing else that I absolutely had to have.

Here are my questions for the month:
When at a tag/estate sale have you ever gone back to your car to look for more money to spend because things are so great and you don't want to leave a treasure behind?
Or, left a deposit on something and run to the bank to get more cash?
My answer to both questions is yes.

Yard sales around here are not usually great. I don't know where I would find an estate sale. I did leave money for a chair ($5.00!) and I promised I would come right back. One of the rare times I was driving our car instead of the van.
One of the best sales I went to was a lady that sold vintage looking santa dolls at craft fairs and decided to retire. I WISH I had gone when she started the sale. She was even selling fur coats that she would cut up to make the robes! It was craft supplies galore and really nice home decorations too. I would have went back for more money on that one!

So I may not be going to or getting much when I do go to auctions/tag sales but holy crap did I hit the mother-load on Saturday. There was an estate sale that had a pepsi crate I was tempted to go get for my SO (he collects pepsi whereas I am the M&M girl). Anyway, didn't go. Then I was online late Saturday and saw that the company running the sale was looking to get rid of as much as possible, two hours left. So you could fill a bag for $5 but take as much as you want. I assume multiple bags for just $5 total. I like the furniture because I paint it. Anyway, pictures looked good. furniture was $10 but take as much as you want. Called SO, want to bring me to an estate sale. (he has the vehicle that fits bulky)
So, are you ready.... for $10 I filled the car with: 1 dresser 2 sturdy wooden chairs (the style I love to paint and sell super fast) medicine cabinet (needs painting but great shape) 2 qt bean pot musical tea pot 5 softballs (all new... not leather but still perfect) pepsi crate old wooden box with advertising printed on it box of old keys metal bucket that had cool handle on it 2 old irons (you know the type they use to heat up) old scooper perfect for planter kerosene pourer (the glass jar and metal top) plug in vintage christmas church that still lights up shaving lotion gift set (super cute) glass pitcher (realized when washing had a giant chunk chip on base though doesn't leak) super cute thistle design 2 stone crocks with covers big old planter, super cute. Both my sisters will want this one. super heavy wooden framed mirror set of vintage kitchen curtains.
I'll try and take a couple pictures tonight of the cool stuff. Love the curtains. Makes me want to repaint my kitchen to use them! Though my laundry room is smaller maybe I'll do that room, yes, I think they are that cute!

In response to the question of the month: No. Unfortunately I don't usually find that much good stuff (except for the above posting of course lol). Of course the problem may lie in the fact that when I do go I have cash and like when you have the 30% off coupon, you don't find anything you want.

kkooch - Amazing finds for just $10. Intrigued by vintage curtains that have you wanting to repaint a room. I hope you share a photo of those!

I went to the Goodwill last week and was really excited to find 2 fire alarms for $5.99 each, brand new, still in the packaging. Mine are from 1997 in my home so I was due for an upgrade. The cool thing I was looking forward to was that in order to test them, all you had to do was use the TV remote and press the volume and you could test the alarm. Sounds great, right? That was until I had to change the volume on my TV. YEP, the flipping alarm went off! The alarm also sounded when I turned off the TV. I think I will be relocating the alarm to the basement and trying another style.

We just replaced all our smoke and carbon monoxide detectors as they only have a lifespan of 8-10 years. It has something to do with the sensors losing their sensitivity after time. It's recommended that you check the manufacture dates of the ones you buy to ensure that you aren't buying one that is already a couple years old.

We went out for the first time this weekend. I found this adorable metal box. It is 6" wide x 8" deep x 6" tall. I only paid $5 for it but then I spend $30 on auto paint and primer to paint it. I love the results. 3 of the drawers have 6 compartments and the last has 3. I put down felt. I have been searching for the perfect jewelry box forever! This does the trick! I was able to fit all of jewelry in it! (I don't have a ton) Edited to add - Not sure why they are sideways, but if you click on them, they show upright.

I had a fun experience today. My sister saw online that the estate sale that I went to this weekend posted everything they had left was free today. While I knew there was nothing I absolutely had to have there were some things that were worth getting seeing how they were free (plus it's pretty close to my house). I stopped by and got:
- spool of twine
- box of new light bulbs
- set of 4 vintage, English bone china, footed bowls. I got them because they are the same pattern as the cups my mother used to drink tea out of. I'm wondering if they are deep enough to put enough rocks for drainage to put plants in. If my sister with the green thumb thinks so, I'll try it.
- 3 vintage jars of shoe polish just because they look neat
- about a foot of weighted drapery cord. I think it could be useful to attach to bottom of decorative flag to keep it from wrapping around the pole.
- handful of knitting needles for my friend who knits
- vintage bottle
- clear Pyrex casserole with lid
- vintage rectangle refrigerator jar. No lid, but I'm going to use it to hold hot chocolate packets.
- vintage chalkboard eraser
- vintage Bostitch stapler
It was hot as heck and I was pretty appreciative of my freebies so I offered to pick up Dunkin Donuts for the ladies. They were shocked but thrilled, my good deed for the day.

So glad to be able to post again. I was in Durham for my appointment with the neurosurgeon and I stopped at my favorite thrift place--The Scrap Exchange!!! I spent an hour there but could have stayed 2-3! I had to run through because I only had an hour. Well, I say run but I moved slow and hung onto my grocery cart. 😃 Anyway, I got some awesome stuff for $35 total! The teacher box alone costs $324 on amazon. It's for my daughter's classroom. The rest if for my art. Here is what I got: *Everyday Counts Calendar Math for Teachers *(2) Lock Lock boxes for storage *1 yard Heat 'n Bond *Thread *(2) acrylic blocks *(4) notepads texture and tearing up for my art *(20) square petri dishes for mixing paint *(3) blueprints for art *(3) Children's Highlights for art *(30+) patterns for art *Brush lettering book *Pad of newsprint paper *Notebook for art *Book of Central Europe for art Whew, I think that's it. I am one happy mama. 🙂

I stopped into Salvation Army today because all of the colors except for one was half off.
I bought 9 shirts for the kids. I was looking at the long sleeved shirts because they've grown a lot since winter and I don't want them looking like they're wearing crop tops this fall.
I focused on the moisture wicking fabric because they seem to be stuck in a stinky stage this summer, gotta love puberty. One of the kids is tactile in clothing selection so that works out good as well.
Also making their way into my cart were:
- a vintage planter with a pink deer standing near a tree trunk
- green Depression glass candy dish
- Randy Travis concert button. It has a date on it and I'm assuming it's from when I saw him in concert locally quite a few years ago. It was a great concert with him and Sammy Kershaw.
- for me, a Life is Good tee shirt
All of it cost what it would have cost me if I bought 2 of the shirts new at the outlets. BTW, one of the shirts was NWT.
I marvel when I see 20 or more people descend on the clothing racks like locust and completely fill their carts. I'm assuming they're resellers. I'd love to know their process of choosing and selling, and profit margins of course! Maybe if I get stuck in line near one someday I'll try to strike up a conversation, don't worry I won't ask about their earnings, I'll try to keep it classy.

stopped at a garage sale with and when DD was home over the weekend. I got 3 old area maps for $1 a piece. 3 vintage Le Parfait French Jars With Bail Lids for 25 cents each. a vintage light blue train case (suitcase) for $2. DS almost got vintage record player/ radio in wooden cabinet. Last minute pass, decided he didn't feel like doing the fix-up. DD got 2 packs unopened elastic, a large wooden embroidery hoop and some cloth all for the huge sum of 50 cents. I paid. Didn't want it to break their bank. Half a day after returning home, got a video of DD twirling in the new skirt made of above mentioned Arthur the cartoon aardvark cloth. I guess my 50 cents weren't wasted!

I have a co-worker who tends to do clothes. I've looked at his e-bay page and definitely lists the stuff pretty high. Personally no way I'd spend that much on the stuff but then again I don't spend all that much on my clothes. I think he likes the clothes/shoes because they don't break when shipped.

We had a huge garage sale two weekends ago. We sold lawn equipment, tools, fishing gear, scrapbook supplies (ha!), clothes, household items, and a huge amount of toys- four houses worth. We made over $1200, so that was good. We still have cleaned out only half the house, though, so we are going to have another garage sale labor day. It won't have as many high demand items, so we won't do as well, but it would be nice to clear out more stuff.
I love buying stuff at garage sales but right now the emphasis is on getting stuff out, not in.
