So I took the night off (can't afford it but I did) I still have to work 13.3 hours this week, my vacuum just broke and I noticed that the sprayer thingie in the kitchen sink is broken. I have never used it so I wouldn't have known. Now I have to figure out how to replace that before showings at 3. The supposed deep cleaner my realtor hired didn't clean jack so Im having to go behind and clean stuff. I have showings this afternoon stretching over a 4 hour period. What am I supposed to do with cats for that long? We can't hang out in the truck for four freaking hours. Both friends I have that are close are highly allergic so we really have no where to go. I need to just pack up and leave, but I can't until the 15th. hopefully the fence will be installed by then. 8-10 week time frame and I signed up in June

You’re in the eye of the storm right now... and soon you will be through it! Be kind and gentle to yourself. You can do anything, but you can’t do everything.

Do you have a pet daycare type service in your area where the cats can go play for a few hours? There is a business like that where my sister lives.

43 dollars per night for both cats. Ant its about 45 min away. Nothing closer per google for cats. For dogs there are all kinds of places. To book them in for the next two weeks is 500 bucks. Can't do it.

The good news is you have showings. Fingers crossed one of them buys it and this is the last time you have to move your cats.

Perhaps consider changing your attitude/perspective. Many sellers have had homes on the market for months with no interest. Be grateful that you have 4 hours of showings! The more prospective buyers who tour your listing, the greater the odds of receiving an offer. It's worth the inconvenience of entertaining your pet for a few hours. Remember people move, some with young children or elderly relatives, every day & survive; you will too!

How many cats? I’ve been to house showings where the cats were still there in the house. The agent knew and told us ahead of time, no problems.

The more prospective buyers who tour your listing, the greater the odds of receiving an offer. It's worth the inconvenience of entertaining your pet for a few hours. Remember people move, some with young children or elderly relatives, every day & survive; you will too! I knew someone was gonna trot this out. Fine. yay me. I have showings. Nothing comes of them so really for me they don't do anything other than cause me lots of stress and issues with my job. I work from home with private information. I cannot go out in public and use wifi at Panera and work while people come through the house. There is no home office where I live, they are in another state. There are also no other nurses in my area who work for my company, so I can't go hang out at their house and work either. I can work from the library but can't make phone calls to patients because I don't have a work cell and don't want them to have my personal number. I have tried blocking my number, but they won't answer those. They will only answer from my work number that they recognize and have in their phones. However, if I work from the library I still have to come back and get the cats every time there is a showing, so either way I lose valuable work time. Yes its temporary. Yes Im luckier than others. It does not make my stress and the problems I am having any less than someone else. Mine are just different and they are mine. There have been over 24 showings in 7 days. Yay. Im not discounting thats a good thing. However again no offers, no real interest and its a lot of time I am missing from my job and its starting to be noticed by my boss. My job pays the bills. Its the important thing in this move that I have to keep going at a good level. I can't afford to lose my job at this juncture so that is where my stress is coming from. I cannot take vacation time at this point. I have to save that for the actual move. The Cats. I have two fuzzy small black cats. My realtor is all over me about them. Its insanity actually. She took out their cat tree so they have no where to "hide". They like to be above the action. they are also people cats. So they want to greet everyone that comes in and play with them. They are almost dog like. She said they were an issue at the open house and that several of the feedbacks have used the cats as a negative (I Have only seen one). She suggested that I take them with me when I leave. Okay fine but that means I can do absolutely nothing during the showings. I can't go to a store and do errands, I can't get meals, I cannot do anything productive while they are in my vehicle because we all know that leaving pets in cars in the summer (or any season for that matter) is a no no. So there is another stress. I cannot be productive during showings. I would be much less stressful if I could use that time to get things done but I cannot. So I sit. Today I will waste four hours sitting in my vehicle. I did look into putting them in boarding but its an additional 500 bucks for the next two weeks that I just don't have to spend. I would do it in a heartbeat if I had the funds, but I don't. I had an unexpected bill yesterday that ate up those funds. Again I am moving in 2 weeks hopefully and then it won't matter. People can come and go as they please and I won't care. But while I am living in it, the stress is high and I feel the expectations are somewhat unreasonable but I am doing everything I can so that someone will make an offer and be done with it. I realize that most houses take several months. I have sold houses before and the average was about 3-4 months. I didn't live in them while they were being sold and I didn't work from home at the time either. The average in my neighborhood over the last several years has been 8 days. 8. We are on day 7 without an offer. So there is that as well, even though I tried not to remember that number. I didn't want to know what the average was for that reason. The showings are slowing down. I know I didn't get the house on the market fast enough. School started, winter is coming. It is what it is. But knowing all of this does not negate the stress at this time. Nothing will except moving and I can't do that for 2 weeks minimum. I don't really want to leave until I know the fence work is done. Otherwise I would have left last week lol.

The whole situation sounds so frustrating, juggling the house showings and work commitments and your kitties. The only suggestion I have is if you could find a local pet foster group and see if you could find someone who normally fosters cats that would help you out until you move. Usually you would just have to supply the food and litter.

That realtor can piss off about the cats. "Sorry, it's not possible for me to take them." Then lock them in one bedroom with a sign on the door so people know they're in there before they enter. And so no one accidentally lets them out of the house. It's your house!!
How productive would she be in her day carrying 2 cats around? She can go pound sand.

Your realtor sounds unpleasant and unreasonable. I’d put the cat tree back. I’m sorry you are in this predicament and I pray today is the day that things start to turn around! Hugs to you!

Perhaps you should reconsider your own attitude, as well. OP was venting.

I’m currently in a similar situation- moving from the UK back to the US. My stress levels are through the roof and I’m not working and I’m in a rental house. Be kind to yourself and vent away. Many of us have been in the throes of moving with pets so we sympathise.
I have 2 dogs and an outdoor cat. I just put the dogs in the yard during viewings and the cat may or may not be in the house. One potential renter was scared of the cat, but the others (particularly the children) likes the animals.
I appreciate that you’re trying to sell your house, whereas it doesn’t matter whether anyone rents this house after me.
In your situation I would ignore the realtor and let the cats stay at home.

First, Take a deep breath and exhale slowly. Do you have a room you use as an office in the house? If so, I would get a small kennel To put the cats in, tell the realtor you can't leave for hours at a time because of your job and just close the door to that room and continue to work when you're having a showing. If need be you can always walk outside for a few minutes while prospective buyers are there.

One of our local cat rescue groups takes on short term boarding for donations. I know it's a long shot but maybe just check it out and see?
I'm so sorry you have all of this on your plate right now.

I have their crates for traveling. I might do that today. put them in the crates and leave them in the office. I don't feel comfortable working while people are in the house only because of the information I have. Im a stickler for keeping it private and the way the office is set up, my screens can be seen. I lock them or shut the whole system down when I leave. Today would be perfect to go to the library and organize myself so I can get caught up and not be distracted. The cats should be fine in their little crates for that time period. Thats a great idea. I wish the app that did the confirmations of showings would tell me when they leave :-)

Your realtor sounds like a horrible person. It's unrealistic to have to remove your cats during showings, something I've never had to do when selling. If you can keep them corralled so they can't escape then I'd put them in a room with a note on the door. Hope you are going to complain about the deep clean that didn't happen too.
Sorry you are going through this but hopefully it will all be over soon. Hugs

That way I could see when they left.

Is there any way you could have the cats in their crates in your home office and work at the computer until the people need to see that room, then minimize the screen while they look at the office? You have to make a living, and a good agent would be trying to help you and the potential buyers both.
As a buyer, I'd be much more interested in seeing the kitchen, living room, bathrooms, laundry facilities and master bedroom, and I wouldn't need to spend a long time in a second bedroom. I'd have a pretty good idea if I liked a house or not before I made it to the office.
I feel like your agent is being more rigid than necessary. Let the agent know that if people are interested in the house and want a second showing, you will leave the house.

I’ll validate you. There are so many balls in the air and so much to do. Even if you want the move, you are still uprooting your life and that is stressful. And you love your pets and don’t want them stressed, especially when you know more is coming!
Can you sit in your car on the street and work via WiFi? Or does using wifi negate the security aspects of the connection? I’ve worked in the parking lot of McDonalds to use the WiFi, but I didn’t need a super secure connection.
And we’ve moved 16 times. I’ve looked at a lot of houses! Sometimes there are pets. It’s ok. If the house is the right fit for someone, they will take it, kitties or not. I think it’s just an excuse people use.
We are a week away from our first shipment for our move to Belgium. It was supposed to have been Monday, but the office on base where it’s all coordinated dropped the ball. Then the guy had the gall to tell me, “relax mam, we do this every day”. I almost laughed when I asked, “What, mess up?” and he was quiet. I was nice after that, so hopefully I don’t have a “Bitchy Colonel’s Wife” stamped next to my name.
You just have to get through this. And you will. This too shall pass.

When I had painters come in for 2 days, I borrowed a larger dog crate. There was room enough for 2 cats, a litter box as well as water and food dishes. Oh and a large bath towel, or you could use a blanket! They were safe I was free to go to go out.

That sounds very frustrating and I'm sorry. I have a suggestion for the cats.
Buy a larger dog crate. For showings, put them in the crate (with water and / or a box if you'd like) and put a sheet over the crate. Leave the crate in the laundry room or an out of the way room. I did this with a very sociable, noisy cat and he loved it. I didn't put water or box in the crate with him, only a blanket and a box for him to hide in. Most people won't look under the sheet, either. I put his box and food dishes out in the garage and no one knew.
p.s. I bought the crate at Tuesday Morning for around $15. It's cheap and wouldn't serve as a carrier, but it was perfect for what it was used for.

As someone who is allergic to cats, I wouldn't be bothered if I saw them in a crate. As long as the home doesn't smell like cats, the cat tree and kitty litter wouldn't bother me. I would be more vigilant at making sure it was really clean. It wouldn't be a big deterrent. The previous owners of our home raised rats for pet stores.
I really do like cats and basically took better care of our neighbor's cats when I was a child. I've seemed to develop this allergy in my adulthood. However, being surprised by a friendly cat, I would probably leave. I have to take benadryl if I'm around cats and dogs.

if you crate/pen your kitties during showings, you can get a privacy monitor screen to cover your computer if you are worried about people seeing what is on the screen. Staples sells them, as probably office supply stores do. Not sure what to tell you about phone call though. Hope you get a quick offer and can more along quickly.
