How often do you use cardstock in your layouts?
The popular designer trend right now is a white cardstock background with mixed media, maybe a tiny bit of patterned paper, and a ton of embellishments. Some layouts I've seen have no patterned paper at all.
When I started scrapping (2001) my layouts were almost entirely cardstock. But now I have layouts that are almost entirely patterned paper- maybe used as a mat but that's it.
Do you usually use cardstock as a background or do you use patterned paper? Do you use cardstock to mat your photos?

Probably close to 100% I use cardstock on every layout. Matting photos, making die cuts, using it as a background...
I like the look of the white cardstock with mixed media, but it's not something I'm going to try. I don't have the space for doing messy things.

I don't think I've ever made a 100% patterned paper layout - I've made tons of 100% cardstock layouts. I do sometimes use patterned paper as my background but cardstock tends to be my go-to

For 12x12 layouts I always start with cardstock. Patterned paper is part of the embellishment for me. I like big pieces of pattern paper on a layout so it definitely has a presence. I don’t do any mixed media, not even splatters.

My base is usually solid colored cardstock unless I use a subtle patterned paper as a base.

I'm a simple, linear, story-focused scrapper, who uses cardstock as the base for my layouts & patterned paper, actual event memorabilia, & stamping as embellishments. If I want a patterned paper background, I adhere the patterned paper to the base cardstock. On the rare occasion that I mat photos, I typically use cardstock or a small repetitive patterned paper (e.g. polka dots).

I probably use cardstock in some form on about 95% of my layouts. I frequently start out with white cardstock but I don't make my own backgrounds with mixed media, maybe an ink sprinkle here or there. Sometimes I'll only use cardstock for mats and once in a while there will be no cardstock present.

I use cardstock on most layouts.
Sometimes as a base.
Often when I stamp, it's on cs.
I use cardstock to punch shapes from.
And to mat photos.

Almost 100% cardstock. I only reach for patterned paper rarely. That said what I produce is more akin to embellishments than scrapbook pages. Pre-patterned paper doesn't really allow for much freedom in colouring, and I prefer to add my own colours and designs with markers.

I probably use some of it on 98% of my layouts, but it varies how much. I do love pattern.

I use cardstock on most layouts but I rarely use only cardstock without patterned paper. The few times I have used just cardstock I recall going back and adding patterned paper.
I do a lot of matting pattered paper with cardstock, kind of like a frame.

I do a good mix of card stock and patterned paper. I use pp for a background about half the time.

I use cardstock (prefer a distressed look, not solid) as the base for all of my LO's. Paper is much too thin so I mat it if using as a base.

Cardstock always for the base at least. I don’t find most patterned papers heavy enough for a 12x12 base.

95% of the time I use a white or Kraft cardstock base in 10x10 or and 11x11 size and I mat that with a 12x12 base, again that is usually cardstock. I also like to mat my photos with cardstock and I do try and get in a few strips of cardstock scraps where I can. I used to scrap predominantly with a pattern paper background but that was a long time ago and my style has changed to much cleaner and simpler look.

Paper is much too thin so I mat it if using as a base. Almost all my papers are close to cardstock weight - I never/rarely buy the flimsy papers found in paper pads because I so enjoy the heft of cardstock. If I use a patterned paper background, I find it heavy enough to support the layout. So I'd say my paper use is 75% pp, and 25% cardstock (because I do matte and I do enjoy a white background!

artbabe you started scrapping around the same time I did. I remember how it was almost all cardstock with a little patterned paper as an embellishment. Now it’s flipped for me and it’s usually patterned papers for the base and layers with cardstock for journaling and word stickers.

I started with always using cardstock, then almost always used a patterned paper background, now I'm totally on the white cardstock and sometimes mixed media backgrounds. I scrap a lot of travel photos and I love how they almost always look great on white.
I'm also in a matting phase, always white, and sometimes several layers of white paper behind the photos.

white black or kraft only I'm beginning to think this is a trend. I subscribe to The Scraproom monthly kit and there are 4 page kits a month. It seems like month after month now, the vast majority of the paired cardstock is white, black, or kraft. I take no issue with your preference, but it's not mine. I would much prefer to have some cardstock in pretty colors to match the patterned papers. To answer the OP, yes, I use cardstock and probably about 100% of the time. I use patterned papers too so there is a mix. An all cardstock layout is rare for me. But it's happened.

I use white cardstock about 90% of the time, but Joann's recently had Bazzill on sale for 20 sheets for $2 (or something crazy like that) so I stocked up on ROYGBIV colors.
I also use cardstock for dies, I hardly ever mat because I print at home and use a white border on almost all the photos that I print.
I have used PP for a base, but that's pretty rare for me.
