There was actually a podcast about this, IIRC it was recommended by pudgygroundhog so hopefully she will see this and be able to point us in the right direction. I forget how but a man who made his money in this field stopped trying to target liberals because conservatives spread false information at a much higher rate so that’s where the profit was. I’m sorry I can’t provide more details or a link...I don’t listen to podcasts, so I only read about this and have a horrible memory.

In this case, yes. The liberals on this board are pretty careful about misinformation and even call each other out when things are not correct. Not when it feeds a narrative they can't let go of, they aren't careful about misinformation. And when that happens they do not call each other out, they attack the messenger. The above post you speak of is not correct and yet we still have a different idea of what constitutes credible information. Hmmmm...who does this remind you of? Circular conversations every.single.time. Won’t answer direct and specific questions. Makes accusations against liberals and won’t back it up. Changes the narrative. If it walks like a duck...

Wasn't that Christopher Blair who made his money creating fake news?

Yesterday when I first saw the thread title am image popped into my head to answer the posted question. Then after I opened the thread I realized what the question really was.
politics aside. liberals vs conservatives aside. Keyboard warriors aside.
There is 500 ml glass. The water sits at the 250 mls mark. Someone says it's half full, someone counters "no it's half empty". Both sides argue that they are right. Both have facts to prove their argument.
.....................
Then I opened the thread and realized that wasn't what was being asked.

I belong to my hometown Facebook page which has morphed into pretty much political discussion with very few liberals on it. Over and over, the Trump fans will post things, we'll ask for sources or outright refute it with FACTS and they still double down on it. On the few occasions that one of the liberals has posted something that isn't true, one of us will go on and correct it and the poster apologizes. I NEVER EVER see that on the conservative side.

This is true in my personal life. DH's family friend posts crazy shit on FB all the time and whenever I post Snopes or facts to refute it, she ignores, or says "Thanks" and leaves it up. Ignorant.

All I have is ignorance is bliss. If you have to stop and think about facts, it might disturb you. I certainly don't understand, but I wish people would pull their heads out of their asses, already.

There were several, but the one I could remember the best was this one: www.npr.org/templates/transcript/transcript.php?storyId=504155809He was equal opportunity fake news initially, but the pieces aimed at liberals didn't go anywhere. As always, follow the money. Fake news factories (particularly from Russia and that region), they are in it to make money and they make the most money targeting conservatives.

Thank you lizacreates and pudgygroundhog for taking the time! I don’t think it was either of those, except the name Planet Monday sounded familiar. Perhaps I read an article and not a transcript. I know it wasn’t on Blair. But it doesn’t matter, the information is the same. Fake news makes best money when peddled to conservatives.

ETA: I don’t think there is any kind of obligation to handle correcting misinformation with kid gloves. But between people with whom you’d like to maintain some kind of relationship in general, it can be wise. A person is put on the defense if the initial portion of the post is something inflammatory. If the point is presented without doing so, the readers ears remain open and listening. So not kid gloves, but something similar.

I could possible see this in this instance because of the initial post “fake news.” However, in most of the situations I have seen, the person trying to present the facts was very respectful but still met with contempt and often times rude comments like, “oh, here comes so and so fact checking my post.” Uh...maybe if you fact checked your own posts before putting it out there and adding to the problems we have with lies being spread, someone else wouldn’t have to do it for you.
