One of my back to school goals, is to prep clothes for the day (or in a perfect world, the week) and have them out and ready prior to going to bed.
We have a good size walk in closet, but there isn't a super convenient spot to steam anything that needs it and then hang for the next day. I could move some things around, I guess, but I really am looking for a clothes valet type thing that can be actually in the bedroom. All of the styles I've found are geared towards men or at least those that wear suits. There are a few I've found that have a tray that would be great for earrings and bracelets, but the structure of the spot for the suit coat throws me off. Our bedroom has plenty of space for something, but I don't want it to be an eyesore either.
For those that prep their clothes ahead of time, where do you organize them?

I just use the over the door hooks on the back of the entrance door and front of the closetdoor. Generally 2-3 outfits.

I have a large door hook over my closet door. My closet is big enough for me to actually get dressed in there.
I have a space in my planner where I write what I’m going to wear every day (I do this as part of my Sunday weekly planning time). The night before I put everything - clothes, under garments, jewelry, scarf, whatever on the hanger of my clothes and hang it on the door hook. I pack my purse and put my purse and shoes on the chaise lounge in my closet.
Sometimes I plan a whole month of clothes (and matching manicures) at once. For example, I have certain clothes I want to wear in the fall, so I usually plan Oct and Nov all at once to make sure I wear each fall outfit once in that two month span.

My clothes "prep" for going to work at school consists of me standing in front of my closet wearing one of my several pairs of identical black pants and thinking "which top to wear today?" and "which cardigan/jacket to bring?" (because you never know if the classroom will be hot or cold). On hospital days "prep" is me standing in front of my closet wearing one of the several pairs of identical black pants and thinking "which long-sleeved top should I wear today?" (because mostly I'm chilly in the hospital) and "which short sleeved shirt should I bring?" (because there are those days when I'm hot so I'll need to change). Not much help to you, sorry.

My bathroom door has a hook on the back of it, that’s where I will keep something I ironed over the weekend to wear during the week. Gym clothes for the morning workout will sit on top of the dresser.

Before going to bed, I get the next day's outfit out, including underwear, jewelry, and shoes. It's all hanging on a hook in the bathroom. I have fairly good idea of what I'll wear each school day. Does it save a lot of time? I don't know. I just like as few decisions in the early morning as possible.

I have a bar with hooks in my walk in closet - there are three double hooks so I use one “pair” of hooks for that day and hang the clothing on one and then accessories I can hang from the other. It’s perfect for now because it’s three days worth and I am mostly working from home and those days I just yoga- pants- it: no planning required, but I have home visits with clients or go to the office and other things typically 3 days a week.

I had thought of a hook for the closet door, but was thinking of it on the inside and that wouldn't work because I have stuff on the inside of the door. We also leave the door open because for some dumb reason the second vent is in the walk in closet, so it helps keep the bedroom cool. However, I could do a hook and have it face into the room (which would technically still be facing into the closet since the door is open!
Perfect!

I wish I could be that organized... but sadly I'm not. I usually try to think of what I'll wear for the day while I'm blow drying and flat ironing my hair in the morning. And half the time, I forget to wear jewelry!

I have to fancy wearing an outfit so planning ahead isn’t my cup of tea even though I can see it might save time in a busy life. I have to see what I fancy wearing that day - I can’t imagine planning far ahead at all. myshelly - do you change your mind some days? I’m guessing you live where the weather is pretty predictable- mine would probably be unsuitable for the day’s weather 7 times out of 10!

On Sunday I go through my closet and choose 5 outfits for the week including jewelry. I put the jewelry in those small mesh bags that you can find at Michaels that are for bridal showers. I hang that over the top of the hanger so the clothes and jewelry are all together. I carved out a small space in my closet to hang them all. Every morning it's just grab-and-go. Makes my mornings so much smoother. I have several extra of those little mesh bags that I can send to you if you'd like.

My pants are pretty standard. I'm a teacher and I pretty much just wear black or grey. I have a few different cuts, but mostly they are similar. I wear school spirit stuff on Friday, so it really is four days. I'd like to wear more of my wardrobe, which is why I thought if I styled four days on Sunday, I could just choose one in the morning. I ordered this hook since it has a spot for four hangers: www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00004XSFM/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1I plan to put four shirts with necklaces and then the mesh bags that ShesaRenegade recommended with earrings. I can grab a pair of black pants and be good to go.

I’m guessing you live where the weather is pretty predictable- mine would probably be unsuitable for the day’s weather 7 times out of 10! No, I never change my mind. I can’t just change my mind about clothes at the last minute. I like my clothes to match my manicure very specifically. And then of course my purse and shoes have to match and the jewelry has to be perfect. It takes too long for me to pull all of that together. I don’t function if I don’t wake up already knowing what I’m going to wear. There’s too many details to coordinate quickly. For example, if I’m wearing gold jewelry then I would want the hardware on my purse and any decoration on my shoes to be gold. And if there are any visible zippers on my clothes, that would need to be gold as well. I can’t just change my mind and start all over and still be ready on time. Everything has to be planned in advance.

I don’t really plan my outfits but always seem to wear the same things over and over because I am in a hurry and don’t have time to steam or iron before work. This way I can plan ahead a little and have somewhere to hang the clothes that I have ironed.

The prep/planning is part of why I got into GYPO. I don’t specifically hang clothes separately because I plan to wear them that week - I have a list of my wardrobe capsule items and check the night before each outfit to make sure the items are pressed and ready to wear. They stay in my closet and I just pull them out in the morning.

I try to plan for the week. I’m also a teacher and do Spirit gear on Friday so it’s a school shirt and jeans. I hang everything in my laundry room, I have a small house with no closets. My laundry room is in the basement and I keep all my clothes there.
Each evening I bring up the next days’s clothes and hang them on the back of the bathroom door. My jewelry box sits on the edge of my counter so I get my jewelry on last. I don’t plan that but I have limited choices so it only takes a minute.

I do something very similar for my DH and it helps a lot in the mornings and with the laundry. He only wears scrubs with a sleeveless shirt under it. I hang the scrubs on one hanger and put his shirt and underwear over the loop of that hanger and they go in a certain spot in his closet. This helps because he needs to wear certain underwear so that when he bends over and they hang out they don’t draw much attention But all of his scrubs have to be black and they must be washed together so they don’t fade differently. So we have one hamper drawer for all of these items and every weekend they get done in one load and hung up again ready for the next week. That way we don’t have to sort laundry and count to make sure we have everything matched up and enough shirts and underwear. And we know that if only one load gets done that weekend, it needs to be that one.

That way you know that the t-shirt bra or no panty lines panties needed for a specific outfit are also washed and ready to go. Something that might help you wear more of your clothes is to hang an item to the back of the closet once you’ve worn it and when you shop for your clothes on Sunday nights choose from the items in the front. This is a good way of figuring out what you really enjoy wearing and what you don’t so you can donate them.

But, and I say this as someone with similar issues, sometimes things don’t work out the way we plan them and that needs to be okay too.
