I've been part of a women's Meetup group for 6 years (and have also been an active organizer for the group as well). Unfortunately the last 2 or so years the group's owner has let things fall by the wayside, and it finally appears that the group is going to disband since she hasn't paid dues and hasn't replied to emails and texts. I have heard through the grapevine that all is well in her life. Apparently she has simply lost interest.
A friend and I have decided to start a new, similar Meetup group. We decided to start new because there were a lot of members in the group who never (or extremely rarely) participated, and also because it's the best way to garner new members. We both have a lot of ideas for events, but I'd love to hear from MORE women, to hear what things you like to do/see with your girlfriends. Of course I'll ask our Meetup members once we're up and running, but I'd like to have at least a couple dozen interesting events up and ready to go once our group is "live." And actually, to be a member of our group you must agree to host at least one event per year. We hope this collaborative idea will help keep people interested and active.
We live in Seattle, so we're urban. But we're also surrounded by mountains, water, and lots of beautiful natural places. Winter time, indoor, out of the box ideas are particularly welcomed.
Are there any ideas you want to throw at me for consideration? Maybe things your women's group has done together? Things you've done with girlfriends, or would be super interested in doing with girlfriends? I'm ALL EARS. Thanks a bunch for helping to brainstorm!

I love this! I'm not in Seattle but would join if there was one in my area. In thinking more about what would make me interested in attending, is more the ability to talk with people, not necessarily an activity. Something like a different wine bar each month, but a topic for discussion to at least have a purpose (if there has to be one to drink wine!) Or a list could be supplied of 10 things that happened in the news this month - to then be able to start a conversation so everyone can talk. Kinda like a book club, but of hot topics. I'm not really into social groups where some people don't speak, and they are just flies on the wall and rely on other people to hold down the conversation. I typically start un-inviting those people. How fun! I'm excited to hear how it goes.

I've always been intrigued by cookie exchanges, though some of the horror stories here have given me pause!
What about assembling "gift" bags for the homeless (gallon Ziploc bag with socks, toothbrush/paste, shelf-stable tuna pouches, deodorant, etc.) or similar bags for a women's shelter?

I just wanted to suggest that you not plan all of your events for Saturday and/or Sunday during the day. I recently joined two different Meetups that looked like they would be fun, only to discover that all the events are scheduled for weekends. Some of us work weekends! Have a good mix of daytime and evening events, weekday and weekend events for those who don't work traditional schedules.

A small group of my friends and I are planning a get together where we make a meal using recipes from Chrissy Teigan's cookbooks. We're kind of excited about it.

I am not part of a group, but I do attend random gatherings with friends.
Small groups(less than six) we usually go out to dinner. Bigger groups (more than six) we usually go to a local bar that is playing music.
I recently got invited to a backyard movie night, but had to decline because of other plans. The theme was 80's (The movie was Breakfast Club). Popcorn bar was being provided and everyone had to bring their own individual drink and a favorite "movie" snack/treat/candy to share.

Progressive dinner. You eat each course at a different house.

Bunko is fun if you have enough people for several tables because you rotate around and get to talk with different people. Different snacks at each table and a few prizes at the end of the night are fun.
If possible, make it so someone can host without having it at their house. I was in a mom's group years ago and if someone couldn't host at their house (due to small size apartment or little kids at home or whatever reason), then they planned an activity (sometimes with another group member) and paid for part of it that equaled approximately what everyone else had spent on hosting at home. For example if the activity was dinner out, the hostesses arranged everything with the restaurant and purchased several appetizers for the group to share, but each lady purchased her own meal, drinks and dessert. It still can take a lot of effort to organize an event out, figure out who is coming, make the reservations or buy tickets, arrange transportation, etc.
Several of us enjoy going to the local community theater. The shows are amazing and the tickets are reasonably priced.
How about meeting up for a movie? A local theater has $5 Tuesday for all movies. I bet there are lots of places where you could plan meet and just have everyone pay their own way.

A friend mentioned that she had organized a group of women to go to a local glass blowing shop. There was an individual fee, but each attendee made a nice thing (I can't remember what they made, but it was a nice object d arte at the end). The shop helped each woman, then they put it in their ovens to slowly cool and you went back to pick up your piece. It wasn't cheap, but it wasn't outrageously priced either. Since you have Chihuly in Seattle - that is what I'd be looking for! Another time, a group of us went to an artists cooperate and took a glass bead class - it wasn't blowing but melting glass rods. The was fun, but ultimately since the beads weren't tempered, they were way too fragile and mine are long gone.

So, I'm not sure how far your group might be willing to travel, or how much they are willing to spend on an activity, but the last couple of years, the night before Thanksgiving, a bunch of the women in my family have gone to our local Board and Brush workshop. There is one in Bonney Lake and one coming soon to Snohomish. The projects in my neck of the woods are, I think, like $65, which is kinda up there, but we only do it once a year. My city also has a couple of art studios with projects... I really want to go to the workshop for making agate coasters but I never see it before it's sold out. But they have either scheduled classes or a drop in menu, various price ranges, plus drinks. If you have any neighborhoods that go all out with holiday lights, maybe a walking/driving tour of lights and a hot chocolate bar afterwards? Do you have any good chocolatiers out there? Forget wine tasting, I would love a chocolate tasting.

I enjoy things that involve art, museums, fun shopping (craft supplies, antiques, handmade things/ boutiques), making crafts, cooking/baking/food, books, movies and good conversation. I’m not so much into hiking or yoga or dancing or stuff like that due to physical limitations.

These are some awesome ideas! I am so hoping to join or start up things like this when I finally get moved. The only one that scares me a little is the cat cafe. I would go if they searched me and my purse on the way out the door to make sure I did not fall in love with any more cats!

I live in Renton, so many of my picks are scattered around King County, but here are things I like to do around me:
Savor Seattle food tours Theatresports @ Market Theatre Theo Chocolate tour Boehm's Chocolate tour (issaquah) Sign Making (the Craft Lab- Tukwila or AR Workshop in a number of suburbs) Terrarium/soap making @ Urban Sprouts- Renton Chocolate/cake/cookie classes @ Dawn's Candy & Cake (Lynnwood) Dave & Buster's (Auburn) PCC classes (all PCC stores) Play at a smaller, cheaper theater (I love Auburn Act Theatre- highly recommend) Candy class at Candy Mache (Issaquah) Cheese making class- River Valley Cheese (Renton). Root Beer Tasting @ the Root Beer Store- Lynnwood Fused Glass Class- Molteneworks-Woodinville
I probably have more in me, I'll try to add more as I think of them.

If you want to do a give back idea, contact MORE Love. They work with Union Gospel Mission and need 200 p.b & j sandwiches for outreach every Tuesday.
Also, if you want to make cakes, contact Birthday Dreams in Renton. They throw birthday parties for homeless kids and always need cakes.
A other idea is to make fleece tie mini blankets. You can donate to the Humane Society or Meowtropoliton

It would be fun to go to the Tulip Festival. My sisters and I loved the Butterfly Garden! Go to watch the flying fish at Pikes Place buy one and take a cooking class or hire a chef to teach everyone how to prepare it 3 ways or something similar. Ride the ferry to Vashon Island and go to the Farmers Market.
