I have fought this trend for a few years and then experimented at Scrapbook Expo with a Make and Take. You stick down little silicone dots with a tool on a sticky canvas according to a legend and colors. Some are partially dot painted, others are 100%. For those that don't know what this looks like, here you go, this is one of many stores plus Ali Express has the kits (hold onto your wallet!) clicky

Someone was recently telling me that they do this but I didn't know what it was. I will check it out!
ETA: Is this really hard on your eyes? How tiny are the beads?

I saw these being advertised on Facebook last Christmas. I found one at Walmart on clearance for about $15. I haven't even opened it yet. I'm concerned about trying to keep track of all the tiny dots while I'm working on it.

I’ve done one and liked it, but I’m concerned about the micro plastics. I just can’t keep purchasing them in good conscience.

I did one picture that I bought off Amazon. I thought it was a poster that I was going to frame for my granddaughter’s bedroom. It turned out to be diamond dot. It wasn’t worth returning so I did it. It turned out OK it’s tedious but like myshelly it’s not something I would do again.

I've watched some YouTube Videos and some ladies place the canvas over a light board. Makes it very easy to see. The kit come with a little tray so you only use one color at a time in the tray.

I have two - I'm halfway through the first one. Both are cake related to hang in my cake studio when they are done. I kind of fell off the wagon last winter and it is still sitting in my dining room lol.
I really want to get it done and framed! They are the largest size they came in, so the detail is super great with them.

My sister has done a few and they came out really great. The colors are very vivid.
She really seems to enjoy doing them.

I got one for Christmas. It's fun but I still haven't finished it. I have a hard time staying hunched over staring at tiny little beads for hours at a time.

I’m recovering from surgery and this is the only thing keeping me sane. Lol.
I’m doing a Van Gogh painting and I’m about 1/3 done. It’s so sparkly I love it!
Unfortunately due to the hunching required and pain from the surgery, I can’t work on it for long spells.
How are you guys storing your beads?

I went to the dollar store and bought a bunch of small containers. I have each colour in its own container - some are larger than others for the quantity of the bead. I cut the colour map into strips and taped each one to the matching bead lid. Then have them all in a larger Tupperware container that holds them all so I can see all the lids, and easily store them and get them out when I need to.

Will you be sealing yours with Modge Podge or something after? I heard someone talking about that and wasn't sure.

I like doing these and have done a few. The problem is you have to sit at a table to do them. They are not something to work on in your recliner. This means I have to be back in my craft room instead spending time with hubby in the living room. But when I am in my craft room I want to be doing other stuff. I like handwork that is portable. Can you imagine taking this to the doctors office and then it accidentally spilling?

I’ve done 4 of them so far. Quality varies for sure but not sure how to know when you purchase them. For beginners keep in mind there are round and square diamonds. I don’t care for the square. Another thing is most kits come from China. The metric sizes are not standard US sizes so if you want to frame it you may need to get the mat custom cut. Also the smaller the size the details not as clear Here are a couple I did.

I’m not sure what I’m going to do with it after I’m done...it’s a good size. But I have to do something after putting so much time into it. Lol I’m thinking after finishing this one, a Christmas themed one would be really pretty. But then again...what do you do with it after it’s finished?

Just watched this video where she tests different brands of glue, etc. Sealing keeps the dots on the canvas.
