Didnβt someone post recently about the abundance of flies around this year? I am really noticing the increase in insects of various kinds this year. A lot of my neighbors have been hiring pesticide companies to deal with the bugs (and they all keep knocking on my door to expand their buyers) but I wonβt spray poison in my yards.
I have many lizards in my yard, which I love, because they are cute and keep the bug population down somewhat. Spraying poison to kill the bugs will hurt my lizard population so Iβm trying alternatives to typical poisons. It wouldnβt be good for my dog or the outside kitty either.
I am looking for something that will cut down the bug population a bit, but not kill the lizards. Iβm seeing some natural sprays that use essential oil instead of poisons. Have you used something like this and found that it works well?
Last week I posted about having itching bumps all over my legs that I thought was from the weed stickers. At the time I posted, they were not red, but by the next day they were red and everywhere, not just my legs and forearms. And my gosh did they itch. Nothing kept the itching abated for more than an hour or so. That was one miserable week. I realized these had to be insect bites, probably chiggers as someone had suggested since they appeared in areas that did not come into contact with the weeds. In reality, I probably had both bites and stickers. I even had a bite on my ear.
I still have more yard to weed and ordered some bug lotion for my skin, but I would like to up the odds of being bite free by spraying the vegetation too. Any suggestions?
This is disgusting, but will show you how bad they are right now. I feed the outside kitty on a ledge by my back door. He usually gets wet food in the morning and at night and I leave some dry food out for him during the day. Yesterday, I got busy and didnβt go out to pick up his wet food dish for a couple of hours. I usually give him 10 minutes or so to eat, then I bring the wet food inside and refrigerate it if he didnβt finish. When I picked up his dish yesterday, there were weird white patches all over it.
I got my magnifier and the white patches were batches of fly eggs. π€’ The patches of eggs were undisturbed, so the kitty didnβt eat any, thank goodness. I have never had fly eggs on anything like that before. There were at least 10 or 12 piles of them all over the food in this rather small dish. It made me realize how the bug population has increased just in my back yard. Iβve never been bitten out back before this year either. I worked in my front yard for a couple of hours this evening and I saw a lot of spiders and a few webs, but nothing else and nothing bit me.
So, any good pet safe bug sprays that hopefully wonβt kill my little lizards?
