Last summer we had a serial killer coyote, 3 cats were found mutilated/half eaten in the very large school field across from our house. My sonny found one half eaten cat when he was walking our dog. We called the first "cat missing" poster we saw and a young woman came to look and she said that wasn't her cat but thinks it belongs to another neighbor and she said she would call her to have a look. Another time when our son was 15 he found half a rabbit beside our house. This summer I haven't heard or seen any missing cat posters. People are keeping their cats in after last summer.
We have a smaller dog and it's a good idea to arm one self.

We have coyotes here too. I saw one at about 5:30 one morning on the main street by my house a few weeks ago. I live in San Diego county.
We also have sightings of mountain lions and bobcats. I no longer take the trash out after dusk, just to be safe.

Our house sits right above a small gully with a spring loaded creek and this coyote stood just across the creek staring at me up on our deck one day. Handsome fellow but a little too brazen. We hear and see coyotes around here a lot.
