" The 2020 presidential election is projected to have record voter turnout, and the once-safe Republican state of Texas is shaping up to be a competitive battleground. Over the course of just a few weeks in July, four incumbent Republican congressmen who represent suburban and majority non-white districts all decided to call it quits and not run for re-election in 2020. White, college-educated voters in Texas' growing suburbs who dislike President Donald Trump are fleeing the Republican party, and voting out their representatives. Meanwhile, Texas is gaining new Latino residents at a rapid pace — and neither party has a clear monopoly on Latino voters in Texas. "The narrative that Hispanics will turn Texas blue may eventually happen, but that's not moving as fast as the fact that college-educated whites are telling us they don't like Donald Trump," one GOP strategist told INSIDER." www.insider.com/texas-suburban-voters-fleeing-trumps-gop-democrats-could-win-big-2019-8If the 60% of non-Trump-lovers would vote in the same proportions as the 40% of Trump lovers and the 70% of evangelicals who support Trump, we'd move away from the obstruction, narcissism, and immaturity of the current administration. VOTE! and GOTV!

Given how the midterms in 2018 went for Republicans I'm not sure how any of them up for re-election in 2020 can feel secure. My gut instinct says there will be a huge voter turnout and we all know that is the key to more Democrats winning.

I know Texas Republicans in many districts are running scared. I plan to participate in get out the vote events as much as possible leading up to the election. I agree that increasing turnout will be key. I don’t trust suburban folks to vote blue when it comes down to it, no matter how much they dislike Trump - many will cast a third party vote instead. We have to turn out those who didn’t vote in the last election.

Good Colorado went purple a little over a decade ago. We are now more blue because the population is concentrated on the I-25 corridor. The plains and slope are still red, but they have less numbers.

I like seeing things like this. At the same time I’m afraid it will make people more complacent.

Im torn about this - I seriously thought Beto was going to win back in November. Everything I was seeing in my area was Beto, Beto, Beto. At the Republican rallies they couldn't give tickets out to get enough people to fill the venues. And then the Republicans still won.

It’s my hope/belief that the upcoming generation - my daughters’ generation - will be the one to turn Texas away from the far right. One of the first things my 18 year old did on her college campus was to seek out and join the college Democrats so she can get involved in voter registration and GOTV activities on campus. I could not be more proud! 🥰
