We bought a new house and moving next month! I'm excited and freaking out a little. While I wait, I'm trying to plan out the new spaces. After all these years I finally get my very own craft room! You'd think I'd have it all figured out, but nope. Please tell me all about your favorite furniture, storage, organization, etc. I'm so overwhelmed by all the choices. One big thing I'm looking for is a wide enclosed cabinet for storage. Especially something that will fit things like my laminator, big shot, etc. And a desk. I'll definitely need that!
I searched the last year of posts and didn't see anything, so if you know of another good thread for this please let me know

There’s a Facebook group, or maybe several, where people share their craftrooms. You can also look for craftrooms on YouTube.

YAY! Lucky you. That looks like a great space! There is a fairly recent thread where people shared their craft rooms/spaces and furniture set-ups. Real life scrappyPea rooms, not Pinterest fantasies. 2peasrefugees.boards.net/thread/92733/where-create-space-sharePinterest is of course full of fantasy and reality scrap and craft rooms. Some people find kitchen cabinets to be an effective way to create storage and workspace from scratch. Depends in part on budget, if you have access to IKEA, and/or how you feel about white generic flat pack furniture. Also how confident you are in your design choices. IKEA is generally easy to buy more of, modify, reconfigure, etc so it's a good choice if you're less certain of what you need. Not sure if you have any furniture that needs to go into this room already. There are some good room tours on YT - some of the scrap/card celebs have shown off their spaces, but they're not always relatable. Depends on how much stuff and budget you have! Some things to consider: do you have clearance under that window to put a desk - it looks fairly low? Would you want to look out the window or have a desk where you turn your head to see out? Or would you want to have your back to the window? do you want to work in a U shape? Do you need desk space to have a computer, cutting machine, etc out? Do you like everything tucked away or visible? Are there any other functions you want for this room - sitting space, album storage, space for other people to join you...?

That room is fabulous! I love the huge windows. I would not want my Big Shot in a cabinet. I'd never use it. I want my die cutting tools handy when I finally get my own dedicated room. That is just something else to think about. I have an armoire that would be large enough to house your machines. 20180408_desk2 by Mikk Lynn, on Flickr

I have a standing desk, so I store my cameo on an Alex drawer unit from ikea. It fits perfectly under the desk, but is easy to roll out when I want to use it. That is probably my favorite “feature” of my room.
Your new room is lovely! I hope you post pictures as it is getting worked on and filled up!

Your room is wonderful & the window-so much light!! IKEA is great with lots of options. We’re looking for a house right now and a craft space is on the list so I’m going to quietly lurk and absorb all this wisdom. Congratulations!

I dreamed of the day when I had a craft room with built-in cabinetry like Jennifer McGuire. For about a year I had a couple of cabinet like items in my space and everything else was largely contained in boxes and bins. It did not work for me at all. I need to see everything at all times. The only thing I keep in drawers are tools, adhesives, and very specific products for mixed media or card making. Everything else is out and in the open. I have a 5x5 Kallax unit for all my papers, albums, thickers, etc. 2 Roskag carts for other items. I used the Linnmon desktop with an Alex drawer unit on the side. I've been very pleased with how well my ikea items have held up. Best of luck and enjoy your new space!

My mom did part of her scrapbook room using Ikea Pax wardrobes, with no doors. The combination of shelving and drawer options really allowed her to customize exactly what she wanted. She used a combination of the sliding wire mesh baskets and the actual drawers, along with the shelving. If you went with white, it would coordinate really nicely with some of the other more traditional Ikea scrapbook furniture like the Kallax and the Alex.

I am in the proces right bow yDD finally moved out 😄. The last year or so I have been planning and planning and planning and I think I have made my mind. I will have 3 of the wide Alex drawers, one Nordli with 5 drawers that can hold the papersize and the envelopes I use the most. I will have one Nordli more with 2 drawers, and my DH will built something in it for filefolders for my designpaper. When you plan, think how you “operate”. I hate to move a box from a shelf to get to another box, and move a lid, to get to a specific item. Thats why I will have the low Alex drawer where everything will be one layer I have my dies and stamps a la Jennifer McGuire. First we talked about buying som wardrobe drawers and built some thing on top of the Alex units, but then I saw the Eket unit with two drawers, and we will use two of them but remove the top drawer to get the right hight for the dies. The extra drawers will DH fix something for 😄 . Two months and we are hopefully done moving and painting the rooms 🤪

I have the Kallax shelving units from IKEA. I prefer earthy tones so I have the espresso color rather than white. I purchased my desk from Overstock 10 years ago on the cheap and put it on bed risers so I can stand and craft. For Cricut, Silhouette and extra craft stuff, I use the armoir from my bedroom set that is also a darker color.

I made my desk out of two sets of Alex drawers and a countertop from IKEA. It's much wider than a ready-made desk would be, and it provides storage!

Last week I hit the jackpot on kijiji. I found 2 wide and 1 narrow alex drawers with the matching desk. I gutted my entire scrap room! It took a whole Saturday. It felt so good to properly store all my goodies in these awesome drawers. I'm now having fun decorating the walls with banners and giant paper flowers in different sizes and colors. I also have a 5x5 Kallax unit that I cleaned up as well. I'll share some pics when I'm done.

Thanks everyone! I'm hearing kallax and alex from IKEA a lot. Are these pieces pretty sturdy? I've never been to an Ikea before.
We only have one decent furniture store around here and everything else is minimum three hours away, so I may have to order a lot online.
It's nice to hear what everyone has and likes in real life. Pinterest is pretty, but not always practical!

Pinterest is pretty, but not always practical! They really are very sturdy and affordable. You you should road trip it to Ikea, it really is a wonderful experience! Before I got my standing desk I used a flat door on Exepedit/Kallax cubes and it was great. I liked how deep the door was compared to a normal table top.

They come in 3 colors. and they have some cup-like things that you can clip on to them for only 79 cents! They fit perfectly. If I can figure out the name, I will post ETA: It's the Sunnersta containers. Ikea - Sunnersta

I do like the idea of kitchen/built in cabinets, but those seem so permanent. Not sure I want to give up my ability to rearrange things. The window is very low, like maybe knee height. It's killing me to not be able to go hang out there and measure and plan! I think I'd like a desk facing the window, but placed away from the wall. I personally prefer to have most things out of sight, but would like a few things out such as my laptop and silhouette. Decorative storage would be nice, too for albums and such. You've given me a lot to think about!

I've been searching and searching and I really like this table: Ethan Allen craft table
And I can't help it, but I love the rug Jennifer McGuire had. I found it on Overstock, though and it seems it's gone down a lot in price! Floral rug

The only thing with the table is that with that bar underneath it you might not be able to store anything underneath it, if that was something you were going to do. That was the main reason I got rid of my standing kitchen island, I couldn’t utilize the space underneath it due to a similar bar. It really is a lovely table though.

This is an old video from 2012. I like how Shimelle asks you to think about how you personally create. I know, it seems obvious but until she spelled it out, I hadn't really thought about it. I love to riffle through my die cuts so I copied her bowl idea. I have tried the paper racks, but they don't work for me because I love to riffle through my papers. So I need storage that has my papers standing up. This video also gives you an idea of what you can fit in an Ikea book shelf. Have fun creating your perfect craft room! The space looks amazing.

I like to stand while I work and I have a cheap Ikea desk and a bar stool in my craft space. However, I am thinking of starting my own tiny business and am going to buy one of these desks. If your budget allows the price, I think a comfortable desk and chair for you are definitely worth the money. Everything else can be cheap IMHO.

The window is very low, like maybe knee height. It's killing me to not be able to go hang out there and measure and plan! I think I'd like a desk facing the window, but placed away from the wall. That was my guess, looking at the photo. All the windows in our house are 2 feet from the floor and it looked to me like yours might be the same. I'd love to have a room where I could float a desk sort of in the middle with a view out the windows but with my back to a wall of storage. That's never going to happen in our current house so I envy you! It must be hard not to get in there to plan everything out. Soon, I hope! I agree about not wanting to do anything too permanent. I always find it better to spend some time using a space before I commit to anything, and even then I like to change things up.

How exciting, lovestocreate! When looking for scrapbooking furniture, think KITCHEN. When I redid my craft space, I had a cabinet maker measure it up and create the storage spaces for me. They used kitchen pantry and cabinet designs b/c I stand when I scrap so wanted the height. Also helped to allow for two drawers under counter space to store 12x12 pp on edge. I also have a rolling kitchen prep cart I picked up at Canadian Tire: it works perfectly to store my dies and support my Vagabond.

I've been happy with the IKEA Kallax system. I've read that Walmart has one as well that has the same dimensions. The rest of my room is a mixture of whatever I had in the house and plastic storage from Dollar Tree and Walmart.
I posted photos of my space on page 1 of this thread

Your space looks absolutely amazing! I would LOVE to have a window that large in my room!
I have to agree with all the previous posts about Kallax and Alex from IKEA. I have both and am contemplating another one but I'm not sure I have the space. I have reconfigured my room 3 times and I'm never really totally happy with it! One thing that I do love about my space is the amount of desk space I have. I'm one of those crafters that needs to have things out where I can see them so having a lot of desk space is HUGE for me. An adjustable sitting/standing table is definitely on my wish list, but likely won't happen until I'm fed up enough to pull everything out and start over! I have an enclosed closet that has shelves installed and that's where I have my stamps and dies stored in the fridge bins like Jennifer McGuire. One thing I will change when I get around to it is making the shelves slide out. It's a pain to pull out the bins to find what I'm looking for. At one point I thought I wanted to remove the closet doors, but I've glued magnetic sheets on the inside and store most of my word dies on the doors. I used to like the system, but now I'm not so sure it's all that so I'm still considering whether removing the doors is a good idea!
Whatever you decide to do in your room, have fun and don't stress out over it. If you don't love it, you can always change it later!

The dimensions are 48"w x 27"d x 24"h. That's a really small table for crafting and it's listed under playrooms, so I think it's for kids(?). Maybe I misunderstood and you meant you like the style and not that exact table. My table dimensions are 60"w x 30"d x 31"h (I have it on risers, making it 36"h) and sometimes it's too small when I have stuff spread out. I'd get the biggest work surface possible. Or have multiple tables or stations : stamping, coloring, die cutting.
