Hi. I need to send something quite special, that I made, across the country. I’m quite concerned about it arriving safely. It’s something in a picture frame, so it won’t weigh much. Any advice is very much appreciated.

I think the tracking abilities much better for UPS, so if that’s a factor for you, it’s something to consider.
But the flat rate boxes by USPS are very sturdy, and you can pack it full of padding and such if your frame will fit in one.

Thanks for replying. It’s too big for a regular box. I’ve bought foamy stuff and bubble wrap. Tracking is pretty important, just Incase.

I vote USPS Priority Mail with signature conformation. It's cheaper and because they have to get the recipient's signature, they are less likely to just drop it on the porch and damage it. I think tracking is just as good.

Thank you for replying. What if they aren’t home to sign ? Do they leave it at the post office to pickup ? I know I’m probably over thinking this, but I am worried about it arriving and safely. Thanks.

I have had to go to the PO to sign for a package, so I would assume so.

I'd send it to the recipient's business address if possible, through whichever carrier you wish. UPS will show you tracking as it makes its way to them. USPS Priority will only show when it's arrived as far as I know.

It’s too big for a regular box. Depending on the dimensions of the box, you may want to compare prices on UPS vs USPS. Now that the Post Office has gone to dimensional weight costs, I am finding that UPS is MUCH less expensive on larger items.

USPS Priority will only show when it's arrived as far as I know. This is not accurate. I can generally track a package from the time the label is created until the time it shows up at my door, although it is true that tracking sometimes appears to stall when stops along the way miss scanning the item. Here's the recent scan history on one of my non-priority packages (locations removed), in reverse order. This particular package took the scenic route, hence all of the "regional facility" stops. Aug 15 3:32 pm Delivered, In/At Mailbox Aug 15 7:58 am Out for Delivery Aug 15 4:03 am Arrived at Post Office Aug 15 3:43 am Arrived at USPS Facility Aug 15 3:23 am Departed USPS Regional Facility Aug 14 3:41 pm Arrived at USPS Regional Destination Facility Aug 14 In Transit to Next Facility Aug 13 1:12 pm Departed USPS Regional Destination Facility Aug 13 5:51 am Arrived at USPS Regional Facility Aug 12 6:30 pm Departed USPS Regional Facility Aug 10 6:47 pm Arrived at USPS Regional Facility Aug 09 12:04 am Arrived at USPS Regional Facility Aug 08 8:52 am Arrived Shipping Partner Facility, USPS Awaiting Item

Thank you so much for the replies. I never thought about sending it to his office. That just might work.

Thank you so much for the replies. I never thought about sending it to his office. That just might work. If believe that, if you are sending to an office, that might help decrease the UPS price, so if you go that route, be sure to mention it to the clerk/check that box if you're doing it online.
