Due to a water leak in our basement, we need new carpet, new paint, and new furniture. I am terrible at envisioning what things go together, and knowing the different tones and hues of color. Are there any really good websites that could help me pick carpet, paint, and furniture that all coordinates? I tried googling, but I was completely overwhelmed… this is just not my thing at all! Any favorite websites that could help me choose? Any pea want to come to North Dakota and help?!!?😀

I'm using Havenly which is an actual online redecorating website. You pick the level of service you want, pick a designer based on their portfolio, then upload photos and dimensions, answer some questions etc...they will then redo your space with links to the actual products etc.

if you like art, start with the art. then pull colors from that. if not art, then a rug (if you are going to use a rug).
idk if havenly has a lot of pictures, but if so look through them for something you like.
or if you have the budget, you can hire someone. you might be able to find someone who charges hourly and who will help you just with the parts you need. well worth the few hundred dollars.
i would start with the floorplan and what functions you wan there to decide what furniture you will need.

The first thing I would decide is how I want the room to feel. Even before hiring a decorator, what are you going for? Comfortable and homey, sleek and modern, slightly relaxed and peaceful. Spend some time on Houzz.com and save tons of examples of rooms you like, pieces of furniture you like...and even some of things you DON’T like. Now look through all of those photos, do you see any patterns? Warm or cool colors? Simple or lots of decorative accents? Is there a type of furniture you gravitate to? Is the color brought into the space from the walls, furniture, or accents? I found I like light monochromatic rooms with small pops of color, transitional style (think modern hotel rooms). I don’t know your budget or style but some furniture stores, like Ethan Allen, have interior decorators available to help.

If you’re really struggling for direction, I’d start by going on houzz or Pinterest and compiling an idea book of rooms or looks that you gravitate towards. Look for commonalities in the rooms you like. Starting from scratch can be daunting. I believe some paint companies will also do colour consultations for you. Space planning is good advice, as you need to decide how you want the room to function and what pieces of furniture you need to achieve that.

People here helped me out when I was freaking out about choosing paint colors for my whole house. I ended up hiring a decorator for a color consult. She charged about $200 and went through my house, looking at all the things I had and talked to me about colors I like and styles. I'm am so happy with every color she chose. It was a great option for me, because I didn't want to change my stuff, just tie it together better. She was able to give me a couple hours of great advice.
