Watching Rachel Maddow and she started her show about how trump and the White House are always lying. She has said ignore what he says and pay attention to what they do. And she may be on to something.
I’m tired of his lies. And not only are number of lies he tells a day increasing, they are becoming more outrageous.
So I wondered what trump would do if the MSNBC’s, CNN’s The Washington Post’s of the country quit covering what he says. And just focused on what his administration is doing.
Totally cut putting on tv his interviews, even snippets of them and not printing anything he says.
The reporters quit hanging out at the White House to hopefully catch him as he heads out the door. He comes out to take Marine 1 someplace and there are no reporters except your basic right wing blogger. Instead really focus on what is a lot more important then listening too hear him flap his gums, and that what his administration is actually doing. What would trump do? He lives for the attention the press gives him at the same time he slams it.
Would he become more outrageous in an effort to gain back the attention he craves? More dangerous?

I watch ABC news every night. I have noticed that they very rarely lead with any trump news and then give him minimal air time. It helps my blood pressure.

It's hard not to want a break from someone so vile. I feel like I can't even hear anymore. But I feel like there is such a huge concentration on the nasty that things that matter are getting overlooked by mainstream media. The endangered species act revisions. The drilling in alaska. The usda relocation. The vacancies at the state department. I really feel for. The media. There's so much. I think all of us are feeling news fatigue.

I said pay attention to what his administration does, just don’t report what he says personally.

I think we need to hear for ourselves exactly what comes out of his mouth. I think we need to as well, because it is something he is doing - lying. Over and over and over. He is outrageous and awful, but he's the president and his words matter, and they have weight. We've seen this as his words empower white supremacists to murder in our country. He needs to be held accountable for what he says, and so we need to hear it straight from his mouth.

No, because the public still needs to hear the verbal diarrhea he spews daily so that he can be held accountable, BUT it should spend more time on what his admin is doing and less time on what he says. Flip the coverage concentration.

No. He’s the president. It would be irresponsible to not report on him. I do think the media could do a much better job focusing on the consequential topics (like the alarming actions he’s taken/threatened about immigration in the last couple days) vs the terrible and stupid but ultimately not that important topics (like Greenland). The former should get far more reporting than the latter, because it will have real impact on people and our country. The Greenland stuff is mind-boggling crazy but does nothing but remind everyone our president is a buffoon.

He was in the early stages of dementia/Alzheimers when he was elected. He is now on the verge of a complete mental breakdown. What does he have to do, shit on the White House lawn in front of cameras before the Republicans stop him?

He is absolutely nuts. We need to see it for ourselves to believe it. Today he looked up and said, "I am the chosen one."
A couple more days like today and we will all take to the streets like Hong Kong.

I think we need to hear for ourselves exactly what comes out of his mouth. I'm not too sure that it matters. He waffles a few minutes later and takes most of it back and changes his story. EVERYTHING out of his mouth is pure and utter bullshit, made up on the fly!!!
I think that it's better not to cover him at all.

I voted yes, but with caution.
The people running for president are the ones who need to stop talking about trump. I believe they also need to stop talking about unrealistic healthcare goals, climate change and even immigration issues. These are all ideas that get the general populace in a tizzy. ( I would bet my bottom dollar that a very popular democratic senate hopeful here list because she kept yammering about trump and Russia).
And when trump says evil about the candidates the news doesn’t need to repeat it. There should be a ten second delay on anything trump says. So there would be no more sleepy joe remarks... those would just get cut out.

I have said THIS EXACT THING for at least a year. Stop covering him, stop talking about him, stop feeding his need to be noticed and he will go off the deep end. It would only take a month at the most.

At this point, we are ALL aware that he is a liar. Another year or 5 of listening to his mouth isn't going to change a single thing. I would personally love to see them actively avoid ANY mention of the man's name and report all of the news as "the current administration", "the white house", etc. The media coverage just feeds his narcissistic need for constant attention and we buy into it clicking over and over to see what outrageous shit that he's said this time.

He is a narcissist. If the press stopped reporting on him, he would ramp up and do something to make sure he couldn’t be ignored. I don’t think the entire world would be safe if that were to happen.

If the media stopped reporting what he says, then his base would say everything he says is true - sort of like they do now - but we would have nobody who would fact-check him.
I hate the man, but we need to keep hounding on the fact that everything he says is a lie.
I do think they should tone down the opinions and just report what he says and then state the facts to rebut the statements, but without all the analyzing!

Why not both?
It’s not an either or situation.
Trump lies daily. Epic lies. We need to hear those lies and not ignore—as ignoring them normalizes it. IT SHOULD NEVER BE NORMAL THAT A POTUS LIES THE WAY TRUMP DOES.
The media should ALSO report on what the administration is doing. That too is s right that we deserve to know.
Trump’s lying is a smoke screen from the shit that they do. It’s trying to wear out and wear down those who report the truth—why do you think he/his staff talks at length to the lines of Fox—propaganda and bullshit flow freely with no push back.

I'm torn with this. On one hand I say Yes, his penchant for hate speech and lies needs shut down and ignored, but on the other hand, I want everyone and anyone to call that liar out every time he opens his mouth.

I think it’s safe to assume that after 2 1/2 years of him lying no one is really calling him out.
To constantly report his lies is just rewarding him for telling the lies and making things up.
People get hung up on the fact that he is the president so we should listen to what he says.
Just like I believe no sitting president is above the law, I believe the American People should not feel they have to listen to him because he is the president especially when he tells as many lies as he does along with just plain making things up.
Certainly report on what the administration is doing, just cut out trump and his lies. Because for every reason one gives to listen/report what he says, it boils down to rewarding him for telling the lies and making things up.

But on the other hand, the Fox News people will still be covering the BS and they will NOT be calling them out for the lies they are. At this point, we are ALL aware that he is a liar. Unfortunately, I disagree with this- there are a LOT of people (Trumpsters and Fox News watchers) who are NOT aware that he is a liar, and are quite happy not to know or not to believe that he lies constantly. If they were told he is a liar, they would NOT believe it, even when confronted with evidence.

I don’t think it matters much whether a news organization reports Trump’s lies or not. All of them are businesses with a bottom line to meet for their shareholders. If their numbers-crunchers think reporting Trump’s lies and fact-checking them attract more eyeballs, then that’s what they’ll do. If they think straight-up reporting without emphasis on the sludge that comes out of Trumps mouth brings them the ratings, then that’s what they’ll do. It’s all about audience ratings and ad revenues.
Mainstream media exists to inform and to a certain extent, influence. But MSM has changed quite a great deal since the days of Walter Cronkite. Nowadays, what people get from it is what they are already predisposed to. If you’re a Liberal, you’re already predisposed to believing what’s on MSNBC’s left-leaning focus, and if Conservative, what’s on Fox’s right-leaning focus. Does it really matter then if Trump's lies are reported?
This is why I prefer PBS NewsHour which is publicly-funded – it’s straight-up news and they don’t spend time on the lunatic ravings from Trump. I know, I know…the public needs to be informed of his lies. But, seriously, what accountability has he faced? He’s not even capable of being embarrassed, so what’s the point? That more people would end up believing him? Let’s be real – the only people who believe everything he spews are those who would support him no matter what. They’re already diehards and no objective reporting or fact-checking is going to change that.
I’d rather that the emphasis be on truly important issues such as his plan to upend the Flores agreement causing migrants and asylum-seekers to be detained indefinitely. Or his backpedaling, once again, on gun control measures.

The media is calling him out for his lies, he yells “fake media” and continues with the lies and the press continues to cover him. What has been accomplished by doing this other than rewarding him for telling lies? The majority of us would not give a pass to our kids, family members or even friends or co-workers if they told a fraction of the lies that trump tells. So why should we ,The American People, give a pass to trump?

He’s dangerous, and he’d be even more dangerous if we had no idea what he says or does or acts like. True and true.
However, I wish, when yet another clip of the POTUS lying was done playing, the talking heads would just flat out say, "And by the way, what the POTUS just said was a lie. Here are facts. Here are screenshots. Here are pictures. Here's a clip of him saying the exact opposite thing yesterday/last week/whenever."
And FFS, just call the lies LIES and stop calling them "misstatements" and misleading statements" and "falsehoods" and all that nonsense. Trump lies. Daily. Hourly. Pathologically. SAAAAAAAAAAYYYYY IIIIIIIIIIIITTTTTTTTT!

Of course it started out with the Greenland craziness, then went on to talk about his thoughts about Jewish Democrats (of which I am one) and continued on to more of his craziness before settling into REAL news. All I could think of is why haven't the Republicans stopped him? Why aren't they running someone against him in 2020? Is "keeping" the White House more important than integrity? Apparently so.
