Looking for a drivable getaway from Chicago. My only wish is to have a balcony or porch where I can see and hear waves and a beach. Am I asking too much?
While I’d love to hope on a place, we only have two nights over Labor Day weekend.
Anyone have a suggestion? Thanks!

We really enjoyed Indiana Dunes National Park. Did not stay there though. Would've liked to spend more time there but passing through for a family high school graduation. Door county is beautiful but if you only have two days, it would be too far.

South Haven, Grand Haven, Traverse City, anywhere along the west side of Michigan.

Saugatuck is another nice place along Michigan's west coast.

I don't know much about specifics, but we were just in Milwaukee for their Irish fest last weekend, and it was in a park right along the water. The music was loud, so I'm not sure if there were waves to hear (though we did see them) or beaches, but I definitely remember hearing gulls and feeling like it was a very relaxed place I'd like to go again. Maybe somewhere around there?

I've never been to Door County (WI), but that seems like the kind of thing people go to Door County for.

One of my friends just went to Madeline Island in Lake Superior. It actually looked really fun. I might head that direction now.

anywhere on the lakeshore in Michigan will be fully booked for Labor Day weekend.
Saugatuck is an easy drive from Chicago - there may be some hotels in the area with space, but won't be waterfront. Same with Grand Haven, you'll have to bring your beach chair and park at the beach and sit lakeside. South Haven - same.
Good luck!

Thanks everyone!! We’ve realized this isn’t a last minute getaway option for Labor Day! Southern MI is a popular place! But I appreciate the suggestions.

Blue Harbor Resort in Sheboygan, Wisconsin. It's about an hour north of Milwaukee on Lake Michigan.

How far is it to Toronto? 500-some miles, 8ish hours, not including the hour you have to move ahead for the eastern time zone. (Interestingly, about the same distance to Madeline Island/Lake Superior.)
