I have a client that I am texting back and forth with. She has one phone number, it's not a group text.
Another person (a stranger named Ron with a completely different phone number than my client) is also receiving the texts that I'm sending to my client but Ron isn't receiving my client's responses. First time I was alerted about it, I got a text from Ron, separate from the texts to my client that said, "wrong number." I didn't recognize his number and didn't know that it was in response to the texts I had been sending my client so I just ignored it. Eventually, he called me on the phone and let me know that he is receiving every text that I'm sending to my client. My client is also receiving the texts I'm sending and she responds to my texts normally. Client isn't aware of any problem. Ron doesn't receive her texts, only mine. And when Ron responds to the texts he receives it appears on my phone as a separate thread, not with the texts to my client.
So weird and concerning that this is happening. Luckily Ron is a decent person and not doing anything with the information he has received in the texts I've sent to my client. Any idea how this could happen? I have TMobile. Ron has Verizon. In the meantime, I've stopped texting that client and just call her instead of texting.

I would let TMobile know. Perhaps they can do something.

Is this client's number a google voice number? If so, perhaps her account is accidentally set to (call) forward messages to this guy's number?

That is scary. Can you imagine if sensitive information was exchanged and Ron was NOT a good person? I have no idea how/why and I hope you can figure it out. Let us know if you do discover why it happened.

Super weird. Glad the guy is decent and I hope you can get it straightened out!

In my book club, the leader who does not have tmobile, would send out group texts reminding us of the book, place etc. We would all reply.
After a year or so someone started to reply to take her off the list, but we didn't know who she was and she wasn't showing up in the numbers at the top for the group. I don't think she was getting them the whole year. Just for a couple of months.
Finally, a different book club member deleted that thread and then group texted us all and the problem was fixed.
I think weird things like this just happen occasionally. Perhaps delete the thread with your client, saving what you need first, and start again?
