Just got the special research task to "win a level 3 raid". I've never won a raid at all because it's just me playing. How do I find a raid with other people? Am I going to have to go hang out near the mall or somewhere where there are a lot of people in hopes of finding a raid where others are participating? The only raids I've ever done are when the task says "fight in a raid"... I go in and fight then leave before the raid is done. Although sometimes those count for the task and other times they don't so I don't know what it depends on, so I usually just trash them. But I can't trash the special tasks.

Yes, you need to go to an area like a mall or a park, and you need to go at the start of the raid. Most people wait for the egg to hatch then move on quickly.
You could also try to find a meetup group or Facebook group. We have a local fb group that meets at various raids and on community day.

Some of the level 3 raids you can beat on your own if you are lucky. Look for level 3 raids with a boss to beat with no more than 16-17000 CP. Use your best Pokemon to take it down, but keep in mind that all Pokemon have other Pokemons they are 'natural enemies' with and will be more effective when fighting them. Also, I did the same research task last week and I fought a level 3 Raichu boss. I _almost_ had it, but ran out of time. I would have defeated him if I would have had five more seconds on the clock 😄 But it still counted the almost-win as a completed research task. Not sure if this would happen in all cases, or if it just happened to me because I was so close to winning it. But it's worth a shot.

You can easily win a level 1 raid by yourself! You might also looknon Facebook or meetup for groups that raid in your area.
I belong to 2 in my area. One is managed on GroupMe and one is managed on Discord!

Power up your Exeggutor and Sceptile as far as you can and use them, they were the most effective. I won that raid with time and Pokémon to spare.

Community Days are my best bet, although I have done Level 3s solo. One other person does make it easier.
If you don’t get it in a couple days and if it’s a daily, you can dump it. With the water event now, a lot of catch 10 Pokémon seem to be out. That and use five berries to catch Pokémon. Both easier than a raid.

For me it was the last research task for the jump start research which I hadn’t finished because I didn’t play much this summer. Can’t discard those! I played a couple of Level 3 raids and wasn’t successful but found one boss I could beat.

Sadly it's not a daily, it's one of the specials that you can't trash. If it had been a daily I would have trashed it ages ago.
