Was this their poor attempt at sarcasm? My Nana used to live in Duncan. She passed away on Mothers Day but you her she sent me to that Wal-Mart for errands when I would visit. 2 of my aunt's still live there.

Another member of the 'well-regulated militia'? Two people were killed and five others were hospitalized after a shooting at a downtown bar Sunday night, according to San Antonio police. The shooting happened around 8 p.m. at Ventura San Antonio during a concert inside of the bar, Police Chief William McManus said. An argument broke out inside of the club between a group of individuals and one person pulled out a gun and started shooting, McManus said www.ksat.com/news/local/2020/01/20/police-multiple-people-shot-at-ventura-san-antonio/

I'm anxiously worrying for Virginia today as gun rights groups gather at their capital. Hate groups have decided to latch on for the ride so there is concern that violence could break out.

Didn’t they ban weapons at the rally for today?

Didn’t they ban weapons at the rally for today? They did. I've seen that the plan may be for these men to surround the fencing that encompasses the gun free zone.

There is a way to fix this part at least. It's called Citizens United and it allows corporations to spend unlimited amounts on elections. Cooperations like NRA (are they a corperation?) and others. It didn't used to be like this. Citizens United was passed into law by the Supreme Court on December 21, 2010. There are some canidates who are running for President in 2020 who believe Citizens United should be overturned. Bernie Sanders is one of them. I'm not saying you should vote for Bernie Sanders. I'm not even sure who I'm going to vote for yet. What I am saying is that this is an important issue for me and something I will be looking for in the canidates (sorry, my spell checker isn't working and that might not be spelled right) I examine when I decide who to vote for.

While some say the 2nd amendment reads a bit confusingly I for one don't really find it ambigious. In it's whole here it is below:
"A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed."
To me the meaning is clear. What the founding fathers meant by the above sentence is that in order to keep a militia ready (since we didn't have a military force) the people would be allowed to keep and bear arms. Think about it. Since it was ratified in 1791 that meant it was only 15 years since we'd won our independence from the British.
I've been reading every day since the day I learned how to read when I was 6. I adore reading-it's like breathing to me. This is how I read the 2nd amendment. My 30 year old son who isn't a reader reads the 2nd amendment completely differently. in 2008 the Supreme Court in a case called District of Columbia vs. Heller affirmed for the first time that the right belongs to individuals. This, in my opinion, was the straw that broke the camel's back.
In order to fix the horrific mess we have in this country regarding the lack of sensible gun control, I think we first have to reverse the above Supreme Court decision as a first step of many. Look at the evidence of how much worse things have gotten with gun violence since 2008. It's at the point now that when we hear of another mass shooting we barely even blink it's so commonplace.

"A 4-year-old Indiana boy died after he was accidentally shot with his father's gun while the two were play-wrestling. The child, Tripp Shaw, and his father were playing on a bed inside a home near Bloomington, Indiana, on Sunday night, NBC affiliate WTHR in Indianapolis reported. The handgun, which had been concealed on the small of the father's back, fell and discharged one bullet. Tripp and his father, 36, were both shot in the head." www.nbcnews.com/news/us-news/indiana-boy-4-dies-after-father-s-gun-discharged-they-n1122841

I completely agree with you. It seems the commas is what confuses people and not taking in account the time period when it was written. The National guard was created, thus a well regulated militia for each state. The only caveat I have is the National Guard is to intertwined with the Federal Military. As a gun owner and former Army, I am for gun control. I believe I have a right to own a handgun to protect my property and family. We have several shotguns for hunting ( all lever or bolt action) and an AR 15 due to both my husband and I prior military so we are well versed with it. We do not need the AR15. I will say I feel more comfortable with it than I do any handgun or shotgun when firing. However I ate, slept and lived with the dang thing.

"Seven members of the same family were fatally shot over the weekend in North Carolina, the Chatham County Sheriff’s Office said Monday. The suspect is among the dead, sheriff's office spokeswoman Lt. Sara Pack told NBC News. Pack said the incident is a suspected murder-suicide but authorities are still investigating a possible motive. It occurred in Moncure, about 30 miles southwest of Raleigh. Those familiar with the area describe it as "a quiet, close-knit community where violence is out of the norm," the sheriff's office said." www.nbcnews.com/news/us-news/seven-family-members-fatally-shot-north-carolina-n1160516

"Four people, including a child, were killed Wednesday evening and a fifth person was injured in a mass shooting at an Orange office complex. It marks the third mass shooting in the United States in two weeks, coming after incidents at an Atlanta spa that killed eight people, including six Asian women, and at a Boulder, Colo. supermarket that killed 10. Few details were immediately available about the motive for this shooting or details about the victims." www.latimes.com/california/story/2021-03-31/orange-mass-shooting-reportedWhen will the next one be?
