Well elaine I'm glad you got yours. I doubt they substituted your colors without sending you the email. I looked at the substitutions and I decided against it. I requested a refund. I will still most likely do the afghan but just at a later date when I can get the colors I want. The colors really sold me on the blanket. And hey, it's not like I don't have enough potential projects to keep me busy until I'm 72! I’m so sorry that it didn’t work out. That was *extremely* poor planning on their part, as the CAL hasn’t even begun yet and there will be more people wanting to join as it starts up. They shouldn’t have picked Yarns that wouldn’t be readily available for several hundred kits - meaning that they should have had on hand at least 1,000 skeins in all the colors that the kit calls for 4 of, etc., and asked Scheepjes if they would be able to easily supply more. Otherwise, they should have picked another yarn.

I’m getting ready for Autumn by crocheting pine cones. If I make several more, I may turn them into a garland. I’m not sure yet...

Quite a while ago, I pulled this old door out of a burn pile with the help of DS. He doesn't even question me anymore and often points out "junk you might like". 😂 Anyway, I scraped off some of the very gone/loose paint washed and clear coated. When next you see I hope to have it framed around into a headboard.

Oh man jeremysgirl that is so disappointing! I'm not sure what I would do either. I think if I wasn't 100% happy with the substitutions, I probably would cancel the order. That is a lot of money to spend for something you aren't in love with. I wonder if they would be willing to send you the pattern, so you can source your own yarn in colors you prefer? Or is that what they are offering already? I don't know how it works, so unsure if they will be sending the actual squares patterns out by email or what lol They said they would still email me the bonus squares so I will most likely just wait until things calm down and maybe do it in January. It seems like I can never keep up with a CAL anyway. And this way I'll get the bonus of everyone else's experience too. I'm not too bummed.

Otherwise, they should have picked another yarn. The Facebook group has 1.2k members. That's a whole lot of yarn. My friend is a knitter and they released an angel wings shawl pattern with a custom dyed yarn. She's been waiting months for her yarn. They had no forecast of how big that one was going to be. I don't fault them too much. You never know how a pattern is going to take off.

My new fleece lap blanket. Not made by myself but I did take the photos. I will use it when out in my wheelchair. It gets nippy on the seafront along this coast. It is made by a London company that prints your own photos onto blankets and bedding. I designed and ordered on Monday night and it was delivered on Thursday morning. The photos are of my dolls houses and miniatures. Held and modeled by my Mr who doesn`t like his photo taken.

PLurker, that is along the lines of what I want for a headboard. That, or something from pallet boards--though my DH thinks I'm nuts. Please post a pic of the finished product.

PLurker, that is along the lines of what I want for a headboard. That, or something from pallet boards--though my DH thinks I'm nuts. Please post a pic of the finished product. Ask and you shall receive. I present my door headboard that cost a grand total of $8.64. 3 2x2 furring strips, (bottom and sides $1.98 each) 1 1x2 furring strip (top $.98) and one pine 1x4 (top shelf $1.72) I used furring strips as cheaper and the shabby/not finished surface fit with the door better. I aged the wood with vinegar steel wool mix and framed it out using countersunk screws not nails. It is wider than my bed (queen) and many people trim doors to size. I didn't want to do that, liked door as is. The legs will be behind side tables anyway. And if I switch back to king size I'm good. 🙃 It was surprisingly easy and quick. Which isn't always the way things work; simple often ends up complicated and lengthy. Not this time. Wam, bam done! malibou I know! To think one match later it would have been ashes! jeremysgirl I'll sleep on that. In my room. For long time.😜

PLurker best line ever to jeremysgirl . Thanks for the giggle. I do love our community. And the headboard looks fantastic. Cheap and fast, my type of project. My type of lots of things.

Great headboard PLurker. DH does not 'get' shabby at all. What a great talking point phoenixcov when you are out and about. If you like random people talking to you. Which I don't. However, I didn't know you could do something like that; it's a clever idea.

PSA... Safety first! If making a headboard, make sure to securely attach it to the wall (or bed frame) to prevent falling on you as you relax under it. Mine is screwed directly to the wall so I survived the night's sleep.😉 I'm debating adding metal brackets (see photo) just for the aesthetic (and one more point of securing) Of course I'll grunge it up a bit first to take "the new" away. Toilet bowl cleaner usually does the trick.

Maybe I will see if DD will do it. Girl is pretty handy. Thanks to both of you. The beautiful thing about rustic shabbychic is mistakes are barely noticed and often make it better. Not aiming for perfection- quite the opposite. When I went to Menards to buy wood to frame, I actually had to remind myself not to look for the "good ones" this time. That's why I went with furring strips as they're just meant to take up space and do their job and not be pretty, which is perfect in this application. Aged/stained with vinegar/steel wool mix and viola. Then cut to length and used long drywall screws all around, countersunk. I just took any 'ole drill bit a bit bigger than head of screw and drilled part way through wood to hide the screws down in and make it's reach better. Your DD could totally do it. But I bet you could, too. I have to admit, when DS came home I had I slight headache, gave him lengths and ask him to make the cuts. He was apprehensive of getting it just so but I reminded perfection wasn't the goal here. The only board I marked for him was the top 1x4 that would become the shelf because I wanted it a bit closer to length. The hard part is finding a nice door in a burn pile. I got lucky. LOL You (both) can do it!
or jeremysgirl make it a mama daughter bonding craft, tell her it can be your next gift to you from her. I've done that with my kids and they at first thought I was just trying to let them off the hook of spending money. They learned that was wrong. So wrong. Doing stuff like that together is more valuable and meaningful to me than a obligatory bought gift.

Great projects, everyone! I especially love seeing your wood projects, blue tulip ! I've been working on a temperature blanket all year and just finished the Aug section. I liked it better after the first four months were done. I'm avoiding getting started on this Cocoknits sweater. I love the way it looks, and think the top down design will give me a better fit, but it is such a different way of knitting that I'm having a hard time wrapping my head around it.

I'm another "victim" of the overselling of the Cherry Heart project. I ordered the colorway that had the blues and greens in it, specifically because of liking 2 colors. Those were the 2 they sold out of and replaced. It might look good the new way, but that isn't how I wanted it, so I cancelled as well. It's probably for the best since I'm going on other stuff anyway.

Funny you should mention this gillyp as recently I told a friend that when I am walking every stranger seems to talk to me but when I am in my wheelchair I get ignored. I am learning that there is yet another level to being disabled that is new to me. I got some strange looks when I was seeing how fast I could go along the Prom the other night.

Ah yes phoenixcov, the invisible chair user. Your remark about the prom reminds me of the lads in their chairs racing at New Brighton in an advert for Channel 4, iirc.

I'm so sorry people are having problems with the Cherry Heart CAL I'm really alright with it. I never seem to be able to keep up with a CAL in the first place so it's no skin off my nose to wait a few months until I can buy the right colors. What's nice is that I will still get the bonus squares so I can make it at a future date. And I'm in the Facebook group so I will be able to benefit from others experiences as they do it. I still plan to make it. It's really a fabulous blanket. I'm so glad you posted it.
