Was watching the Donna Reed show this morning and a commercial for Brylcreem came on. It was a little before my time and I started wondering what old commercial I remembered and thought of the Coke one where everyone is singing I'd Like to Teach the World to Sing. What old commercial(s) do you remember?

I’m watching the Hallmark channel right now, and the old tootsie pop commercial from my childhood just came on. Little cartoon boy asks “how many licks until you get to the tootsie roll in the middle of the pop?” He asks the owl, who bites after two licks. The ad must be from the 60’s. I love that they cleaned it up and brought it out. I may just go buy a bag of tootsie pops.
Oh did that bring back memories. Ha ha

I basically grew up without television, which would certainly lead one to believe that I wouldn't know too many old commercials. However, I think that every time I came across tv, I must have had a thing for commercials because I know the jingles from loads of old commercials. Every time I whip one of those songs out my dh is shocked. Wouldn't it be lovely if I were able to remember far more interesting things, like the dentist appt I just forgot yesterday. Ds is away at college and was trying to find his favorite Treetop applesauce. When he was moaning about it not being available I asked him what choices he had. He said the only one without high fructose corn syrup was some local brand called Seneca. I immediately busted out the Seneca apple juice commercial jingle. I could feel him eye rolling and shaking his head over the phone.

I immediately thought of Punchy. "How'd you like a nice Hawaiian Punch?"

I can still sing bits of the Frito Bandito ad from the late '60s/early '70s. I also remember an ad that Jimmy Durante did for Kelloggs back then (I think it was for what was called Frosted Flakes in the US). What makes this weird is that I only spent three years of my childhood in North America - lived the rest of my life in Australia. Brains are funny things.

And the slinky one. I sing them all the time in class, the kids think I am crazy!

"My baloney has a first name, it's 'O-S-C-A-R'...."

In the 80s there were these milk commercials that starred a semi famous guy.. shoot, I think his name was Vern? I will have to find it.. They were played in the south I believe (I lived in TN at the time) I did find it easy.. he would say Know what I mean Vern.. or something.. here is a clip.. His name was Ernest P Worrell or aka Jim Varney www.youtube.com/watch?v=JxcCA9f5LFsEdited to add.. okay I did a little more researching.. lol.. and he was bigger than semi famous.. I totally forgot about his movie career. Probably because I didn't ever really see them.. I did swore that I went to school with his son but no children are listed. So maybe that was someone else's kid. Who knows. I lived in Nashville and there were lots of celebrity people close to where I lived.

Wow, I remember SOooo many of the ones already mentioned and many many others. DH and I bring them up now and then when something spurs a memory of an old commercial or its jingle. One of my all-time favorites was a commercial for a regional soda "Faygo", with a jingle "The Faygo Boat Song" ( Faygo commercial mid-70s). I loved the song and once it got in my head, it stayed for hours (days?). I also loved all the "What would you do for a Klondike Bar?" commercials.
