I bought a bottle and it seems to be helping me. I did read that you should not take it long term. For those of you who do take it, do you stop after a few weeks and restart if symptoms reappear?

I've not taken sage for hot flashes but I have been taking Evening Primrose Oil Capsules on the advice from my Integrative Medicine doctor for several years now to fight hot flashes and it works incredibly well. I decided not to take regular hormone therapy because of the cancer risk and when I tried Bio-Identical hormone therapy (the type that doesn't pose a cancer risk) it made my migraines so much worse, so I've just been sticking to the Evening Primrose. It works so well that I've gotten the hot flashes down to about 1-2 in a 24 hour period.
The brand I take is called Jarrow Formulas and I order it on a website called pureformulas.com Each capsule is 1300 mg. and I take 2 with food.
This isn't really what you asked but I thought since sage can be harmful long term that you might be looking for something to take besides hormone therapy to help with hot flashes.

Unfortunately, evening primrose didn't work for me and that's why I ended up switching to sage. Sage has worked incredibly well so it's a shame that I can't use it longer. I'm taking a pretty low dose, only one capsule a day, but will stop after 8 weeks and hope that the hot flashes don't come back.

Evening primrose did nothing for me either.

Yes I did and I found it helped too. I took it for maybe a year, maybe a bit less...I can't remember to be honest...and only really stopped because I ran out one time and just didn't get started again but my flushes seemed to have lessened now thankfully I posted about it and another Pea pointed out a few contraindications which I wasn't aware of but wasn't affected by luckily. I would take it again if I needed to.

When you posted about this at the beginning of the summer, I started doing this and it is amazing the difference it made for me. I tried a different brand and the night sweats returned. So I ordered the Jarrow Formulas and they went away again. When I need another bottle I plan to subscribe monthly from Amazon.

So I ordered the Jarrow Formulas and they went away again. When I need another bottle I plan to subscribe monthly from Amazon. Fantastic! I do believe the quality of supplements (Evening Primrose Oil in this case) has a lot to do with success or failure. The website I order my supplements from that I mentioned pureformulas.com stocks supplements that are the ones my Integrative Doctor recommends and sells in his office. His prices are the same as the prices on the website so he's not making a profit-he's sells them in his office as a service to his patients. An Integrative Doctor is a doctor who practices traditional (western) medicine-mine is a board certified internist combined with alternative approaches. In this case my doctor sees the body as a whole. When you come in with a problem as a new patient he'll first do a full blood panel and then spend 30-45 minutes with you discussing the results before getting to what the problem you are having-and ask you about any other problems. Then by looking at your blood work and your problem he'll either write a persciption, suggest a supplement or both. The kind of supplements I take: I have adrenal insuffiency so I take a supplement that helps support my adrenals rather than a western prescription for that. Traditonal western doctors would just write off a subscription for it and leave it at that. Thanks to a blood test from this doctor I found out I have a genetic condition that causes a defective MTHFR gene-basically that means I can't process regular B12 vitamins. Even the shots don't work for me. So another supplement I take is called Homocysteine Supreme-it's a special formualtion of B12 that my body can process. Lots more info than anyone ever needed on this subject but what I'm trying to say is that the supplements at this site, pureformulas.com are top quality supplements that doctors like mine use for their patients. I even get my Vitamin D3 supplents here. Sure you can buy Evening Primrose Oil from Amazon or at Cotsco but they most likely won't be the same quality or perform as well. I've found the prices at this website to be very fair. For a bottle of 60 softgels that are 1300 mg. of the Jarrow Formulas Evening Primrose Oil from pureformulas.com I paid $9.00 and something in change and it was shipped to my house. Just an idea for those that tried Evening Primrose Oil in the past and it didn't work.

I have the Now brand which is sold on that site. Unfortunately, it didn't work and my symptoms were so bad that I was flushing every hour and waking up about 4-5 times a night. Once I switched to the sage, it made a huge difference. I'm truly hesitant to stop, but know I'll need to.

Maybe try the brand I suggested but I would stop the Sage since it has been reported to be dangerous. I also wouldn't try any supplements without a doctor's okay. I should have made that more clear in my previous posts. Taking an incorrect supplement without a doctor's advice can be harmful for you, even a vitamin that you don't need. I only take the vitamins my Integraive Doctor says I need based on my full blood panel that I do every year. Right now that's only Vitamin D3. I would suggest looking for an Intregrative Doctor in your area. Mine is so busy and popular that he has patients coming from over 60 miles away to see him so he doesn't need to take insurance and doesn't. The first visit with him is $150.00 out of pocket but for that I get a 30-45 minute appointment with him, and if I need a follow up appointment it's less expensive. Not to mention I can email him directly for a year with any questions or problems I might have within that year for free. Honestly, for me it's worth every single penny compared to regular doctors like a primary care physician. I still have a neurologist, a GYN doctor and any other speciality he can't cover.
