Walking through Home Depot always reminds me of the time when the “free” paint samples and laminate samples were all the rage in scrapbooking. I always felt like I was stealing since I had no intention to purchase home improvements I remember it being this big thing to see who could get the most on the old pea board. Good times. Lol

I know a lot of you will think I'm nuts but October Afternoon paper. Had to have them but have I used them? Nope. I have discovered cutesy isn't my style. Remember that circle cutter that you would have to use it on glass? Bought that one twice because the first time I failed with it and got rid of it. Bought it again because I thought it was user error. Nope, still sucked. i have a circle cutter from CM that has a glass plate to cut on. Bought in the late 90’s. Still use it.

I participated in a Circle Journal! Oh my that was a huge commitment and production. We managed to get it done but my gosh all I remember is being sooo stressed out to complete everyone's pages perfectly and beautifully and then make the deadline to get it mailed in time. There were 9 of us and we actually produced some beautiful journals. I still have mine, I have it lovingly displayed in my scrap room but gah, never again! Remember the torn bears and that whole brouhaha and that crazy woman from Ebay? Ahhh...good times!

Did one participant keep it for several months but finally sent it on and we finally got them back? I think I still have it but no idea where it is.

Mine was trying over and over again to sign up for CKU...Creative Keepsakes University. Took me four tries. Registration would open at a set time and within eight minutes it would be full...750 spots! I would sit at the computer and frantically try to register. Finally got into the one at Disney in Orlando. But coming from AZ, I was sitting in 8:00 am classes but it was 5:00 am AZ time. But it was a great event.

Pagerz lettering templates. Bought them when I started scrapping in 1997 and still use them to this day. Also, I really loved these acrylic pieces that you used silicon dots to add them to the page. My all-time fave was a green 4 leaf clover that had a tiny heart cut out of the middle of the clover. Those things were only available for a very short time but I bought a crapton of transparent pink acrylic hearts and used every last one of them in my books.
Still have (and love) mulberry paper. Still use eyelash fibers sometimes. EK Success had a fiber pack that had about 6 different types on a single card: there was just enough to use but not too much leftover to store in the stash.
This hobby is still so much fun for me all these years later. No regrets. Love my stash and when I flip thru my books, it gives me flashbacks not just of the photos but the layout ingredients, too.

I was in 2 circle journals with about 8-10 people. One of them took a year and a half to finish. I didn't think I would ever get mine back. Same with swaps - I got a lot of things I couldn't or wouldn't use. Although I did like product swaps - it was an easy way to get a variety of items without having a million of them like buttons, brads, eyelets, etc.
In my early days, I did a bit of photo cropping. They aren't in crazy shapes, mostly circles or ovals where there is no background left. Some of the pictures were my only copy.
For specific products: Ribbon & fiber Naked chipboard Paper & silk flowers

LavenderLayoutLady I almost wrote mulberry paper too. I still have a lot of my paper and still look for it. Mulberry paper is so pretty and elegant. @kendramage OMG Do I ever remember the great Menard's deals on Cricut cartridges. At the time my city did not have Menards. I lived vicariously through all the Menard's threads. You were all so lucky. Menard's still has Cricut items around the Holiday season. One of the model scaling forums I read the guys are always grabbing Cricut Explore's during Menard's Black Friday sales. Other trends mentioned- Tags- Forever and ever with me. Paper Piecing- I will love it for life. I think I do at least five paper piecings a month. Deco Scissors- Still use mine. I will give myself a nod. I am good with them. I can make some fancy borders. Technically I do a lot too... I just use my Cricut to cut it all out instead of my Xacto knife!

The Genesis trimmer! I waited 3 yrs and 9 months before I got the famous call from Bonnie. I have not one regret... Was that Bonnie from Bonnie's Best Art Tools? I never tried for the Genesis trimmer, but I did buy a Plastikoil coil binding machine from her. I thought I was going to use it for everything - had visions of making mini scrapbooks. Ooh! I made nothing. But I lovingly made space for it in my scrapping room. My husband plays the piano and lately the bindings have been disintegrating on all his old exercise books. Pages flying all over the place. Plastikoil to the rescue! Since it's the wimpy home version (though $100 back in 19?? - I was crazy), it's a tedious process of punching, then aligning the holes for the coil. But I have finally used the machine multiple times! Yay! Now if I can just use the fibers and the chipboard letters and the brads and the cuuute Jolee's stickers and the library book pockets and ...

That sounds really familiar. I bet we were in the same swap. Do you know where yours is? You might look and see if I'm in there. I don't know if I could find mine. Don't even know where to start looking.

The circle journals I participated in were with local ladies I used to attend crops with years ago.

I still ink my edges. My page feels naked without it.
One thing I was obsessed with were the KI acrylic alphabet soup letters. I had to have all the colors/fonts/numbers. I still have them in my room. I also remember collecting early HS chipboard letters and MM rubons.

That sounds really familiar. I bet we were in the same swap. I think all circle journals were the same in that they'd get held up I did two - one was puzzle pieces! I remember getting way behind one - held up the group for 3 months I think... I have mine, and love that the pages were made by online friends, but honestly the albums themselves don't mean much to me otherwise. I don't think I'd do that again Puzzles/decorated pieces - they were a rage for a while. ATC cards. The precursor to art journals? It feels like it was all just people wanting to "art" but afraid to call it what it was? It wasn't cool to just paint? just doodle? It rather feels like the current planner trend - like people need an excuse to "art". I think the biggest "craze" I got caught up in was the cricut, leading to the cameo. Honestly, I get more use out of my big shot and I'm glad things have gone back towards dies!

I tried a couple of the letter templates and could never get the hang of it. I did hang on to it for a long time though—I just purged it a few months ago when I was cleaning and organizing. I bet I packed that thing up and moved it around at least 5 or 6 times!

Coluzzle used a foam type mat. The kind of white stuff that computer are packed with. I use my old coluzzle mats to store my fancy brads. I used the coluzzle but hated the part you had to trim, I could never get it to be perfect and it drove me nuts.

I don't know if this was mentioned but did anyone participate in the Coke bottle swaps? You cut open a 2 liter of Coke (or whatever drink) and fill the bottle with goodies. Tape it back up and mail it? I did that once or twice.. LOL
I LOVE Coluzzle!! I have mine somewhere and was just looking for them. I wanted to cut out some tags. For some reason I was a pro at using that system. Other stuff like glass mats and whatever, not so good.

Fun reliving all these old supplies! Ah..I am another who had to have every color set of the Making Memories paints. I just tried reviving all of them by adding water, they all got thick and ikcy. I haven't tossed them but I should. I still have a bin full of the foam alpha stamps too. I haven't stamped on a layout in ages. IDK if I'm going to. This is on my KonMari list of things I need to purge lol. I had so many foam stamps. I still use (acrylic) stamps, but I was pretty obsessed with foam stamps for a while. I'd have a half-dozen layouts out drying at once. I got rid of most of them, along with the edge scissors that I had so many of, and a lot of cutesy small punches I never used. Now I'm sorry I got rid of the scissors and punches, because my kids would LOVE them. I also lived in NYC at a time when there really weren't scrapbooking stores (I developed the bug while interning out of town at an office in New Hampshire near these amazing scrapbooking and quilting stores), and I used to order tons of supplies on line. I remember my husband eyerolling a little (also about the fact that I always hunted for scrapbooking stores on vacation and then had to figure out how to get paper home on a plane without bending it), but, now that the stores have mostly closed and it's hard to get supplies, I'm feeling pretty smug about my stash.

I remember when buying the pink ATG tape gun was all the rage. People were stalking Michaels waiting for them to come in.
I have two that I use all the time- one for acid-free tape, and one for general purpose tape. I still use my Xyron all the time, too.

I have probably had everything people have talked about except the bears and punchkins. I still have my threading water punch, foam stamps, and rubons.
The Heidi Rub-ons didn't work well AT ALL. Making Memories did work well. The best ones (that still work today) are Hambly, Basic Grey and 7 Gypsies!!

I started scrapbooking when I was in college and I didn't have much money. So I wasn't into one big "craze" but I had one of every item--one blue magic mesh roll, one Junkitz zipper, one washed-up alpha tile, etc! 😁

I believe I owned every sticker that Creative Memories put out! Then all of the Mrs. Grossman's stickers, then I went online and ordered stickers, and then I found stickers at the Dollar Tree, I am a sucker for stickers!!
I also own all of the Creative Memory Layout books!
