Now I truly am shocked lucyg has a better view of Republicans than I do. Who would have thought? I guess Lucy doesn’t have that bitterness of feeling betrayed to color her thoughts on the subject. Oh, I’m a former Republican, too. An old-style, pre-Southern Strategy, NAACP-supporting Republican. I voted for Clinton both times, and impeachment soured me on the Republicans for good. If they let this slide I don’t know how I’ll ever respect any of them again. But that’s pretty much where I’m at anyway with the way they’ve been legislating the last 6 years anyway.

this DNI is such a weaselish weenie!! that's all I can think to describe him. He is trying SOOOOO hard not to say anything bad about the President, he won't even answer straight a question about 'do you believe wrongdoing by the Executive branch should be investigated?' He's just hemming and hawing and repeating himself, saying 'we did turn over the complaint' even though Adam Schiff is asking him a GENERAL question, NOT about the whistleblower complaint itself. He's not saying anything that might cause DT to doubt his 'loyalty' blech. The whistleblower statute says NOTHING about conditions relating to the requirement that complaints 'SHALL' be forwarded to Congress... and it says NOTHING about a requirement to ask the DoJ anything about it. But yet, he did that, and until the President released the 'transcript' (which is not really a transcript) of that phone call, I don't believe they would have EVER forwarded the whistleblower's complaint to Congress. This entire thing just REEKS. When he was asked directly, 'who decided not to forward it' he said 'no one' but, Duh- SOMEONE had to make that decision, otherwise it would have been given to Congress like it should have been!

Pretty clear that he spoke to the President about this complaint, by his deflection of answering if he had spoken to Trump. (Does that make sense?)

yup- makes PERFECT sense. Also by the way he answered any of the questions about 'why would you take a complaint to the SUBJECT of the complaint' with the answer of, "well, you have the information NOW, so..."
That still doesn't make what you did OKAY!!

My question is: if he resigns before the primary or the November election, can he qualify for the November ballot in those states if he is no longer the incumbent.
ETA. I’m not sure how they “save money” by not having a problem residential primary. Don’t they still have to print ballots for all the other races that are happening in November at the state and local level? He could qualify as an independent. Somewhere I asked about the other candidates too... My guess would be they’d choose Pence (assuming he was the sitting president) to run, even if he hadn’t appeared on a single primary ballot. And he would be a damaged candidate going into the election. If Trump wanted to run again after impeachment and removal, he’d have to run as an independent. Unless the Republican party is even further down the road to hell than I think they are. Ah ok, lucy got it!!!! Oh, I’m a former Republican, too. An old-style, pre-Southern Strategy, NAACP-supporting Republican. I voted for Clinton both times, and impeachment soured me on the Republicans for good. I am still a registered Republican, have been forever. Sure doesn't make THEM right anymore! I am not them !!

I’m worried about his stamina. He sounded awfully tired after finally working three days. 😜. He looks like shit and I am doing a happy dance. No health or mental problems at this point could be enough to pay him back for the selfish damage he has done to this country

There has been some grousing on twitter that the Democrats are spending too much time on why the complaint was not sent to Congress and very little time was spent on what was in the complaint.
IMO there are two issues here. The cover up and the contents in the complaint.
This guy Maguire is the reason the complaint was not sent to Congress and therefore he should be drilled on that part.
Both the House and Senate committees will interviewing IG, in closed hearings, and the Whistleblower will be testifying. It seems to me these are the proper folks to question about the contents of in the complaint.

Serious question. Why would anyone want to go to an event where the President of the United States is speaking and listen to this?
LA Times...
“Trump at private event: ‘Who gave the whistleblower the information? Because that’s close to a spy’
“WASHINGTON — President Trump expressed disgust Thursday morning with the explosive whistleblower complaint, slamming the intelligence officer and the White House aides who helped him or her as “almost a spy” and suggested it was treason.
Speaking at a private event in New York, Trump described reporters as “scum” and raged at the Democrats’ new impeachment proceedings, which were spurred by the whistleblower’s complaint alleging that Trump tried to strong-arm Ukraine’s leader to interfere in the 2020 election.
The still-unidentified whistleblower acknowledged that he did not listen to Trump’s July 25 phone call with Ukrainian president Volodymyr Zelensky, but cited information from more than half a dozen U.S. officials over the past four months as part of “official interagency business.”
“Basically, that person never saw the report, never saw the call, he never saw the call — heard something and decided that he or she, or whoever the hell they saw — they’re almost a spy,” Trump said.
“I want to know who’s the person, who’s the person who gave the whistleblower the information? Because that’s close to a spy,” he continued. “You know what we used to do in the old days when we were smart? Right? The spies and treason, we used to handle it a little differently than we do now.”
Trump spoke at a private event at the Intercontinental Hotel in New York, where the president thanked the U.S. ambassador to the United Nations, Kelly Craft, and her staff as he wound up four days of meetings around the U.N. General Assembly.
A person attending the event provided the Los Angeles Times with a recording of the president’s remarks.
Trump spoke just as Joseph Maguire, the acting director of national intelligence, was defending the whistleblower at a hearing in the House Intelligence Committee, saying the individual “did the right thing” and followed the law “every step of the way.”
The president brought up the whistleblower almost as soon as he began his remarks on a podium in front of a blue backdrop in the low-ceilinged hotel ballroom, again claiming that the phone call with Zelensky was “perfect.”
The White House released its account of the call on Wednesday, and it largely corroborates the whistleblower’s complaint. After Zelensky asked to buy U.S. anti-tank missiles to help fight Russian-backed separatists, Trump responded by asking for “a favor,” including help investigating Joe Biden, the former vice president who is seeking the Democratic presidential nomination.
In his remarks, Trump cited his awkward meeting with Zelensky on Wednesday where both leaders were asked about the implicit quid pro quo detailed in the call summary and whistleblower complaint.
“They said, ‘Was he pressuring you?’” Trump said, describing the question to Zelensky, who responded that he hadn’t felt any “push” but also said he didn’t want to get involved in a U.S. political squabble.
“You know, these animals in the press,” Trump went on. “They’re animals, some of the worst human beings you’ll ever meet.”
Someone in the room shouted out “Fake news!” egging the president on.
“They’re scum,” Trump continued. “Many of them are scum, and then you have some good reporters, but not many of them, I’ll be honest with you.”
He then accused Sen. Christopher S. Murphy (D-Conn.), who met with Zelensky in Kyiv this month, of pressuring the Ukrainian leader to accuse Trump of improper behavior.
“Democratic senators went over there and strong-armed the guy,” Trump said, affecting Murphy’s voice for a moment. “‘You better damn well do this or you’re not going to get any money from Congress.’ Oh, I see, that’s OK?”
“And then you have Sleepy Joe Biden who’s dumb as a rock,” Trump went on. “This guy was dumb on his best day and he’s not having his best day right now. He’s dumb as a rock. So you have Sleepy Joe and his kid, who’s got a lot of problems, he got thrown out of the Navy — look, I’m not going to, it’s a problem ... so we won’t get into why. He got thrown out of the Navy and now this kid goes into Ukraine, walks away with millions of dollars, he becomes a consultant for $50,000 a month and he doesn’t know anything compared to anybody at this firm. He’s a stiff. He knows nothing. He’s walking away with $50,000.”
Hunter Biden was discharged from the Navy in 2014 after testing positive for cocaine. From 2014 to 2019, he served on the board of Burisma Holdings, Ukraine’s largest private gas company, whose owner came under scrutiny by Ukrainian prosecutors for possible abuse of power and unlawful enrichment. Hunter Biden was not accused of any wrongdoing in the investigation.
Trump, as he continued to speak, expressed further dismay that he is the one being investigated, not Biden.
They’re talking about me and I didn’t do anything,” he said, hedging slightly. “I don’t know if I’m the most innocent person in the world.”

How is Trump alluding to murdering (paraphrasing) *treasonous spies* that were the whistleblower's source not a big deal?
Shouldn't there be a mechanism that pings the "Okay, now that is too far" button?
If I was that whistleblower, or his/her sources, I would be afraid right now.

This is related to the 'transcript' Graham, who was given a preview of the Trump-Zelensky transcript from Attorney General William Barr on Tuesday, said he had no intention of pursuing the matter.“I don’t want to turn the Senate into a circus,” he said. “I think there’s a belief among Republicans [that] Democrats have lost their minds when it comes to Trump.” Other Senate Republicans were less vocal than Romney but indicated more unease than Graham. “Any time you’re talking to a leader about a subject like, yeah, those are sensitive matters,” said Senate Republican Whip John Thune (S.D.). But Thune added that he didn’t think it would change most people’s minds or justify the House impeachment push. Republicans in recent days have given themselves some daylight with Trump. ** thehill.com/homenews/senate/463113-senators-fret-over-prospect-of-trump-trialBarr is picking and choosing who and when he will show things.... Is the WH staff safe? Sen. Lindsey Graham, R-S.C., threw cold water on the whistleblower complaint on Thursday but demanded to know who in the White House spoke with the whistleblower and why they didn't file a complaint on their own."It is imperative we find out which White House official talked to the whistleblower and why. Why didn’t they lodge the complaint?" he asked on Twitter. ** He seemed to refer to the White House officials the whistleblower complaint cited as being "deeply disturbed" by a call in which President Trump urged Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky to investigate former Vice President Joe Biden. ** www.foxnews.com/politics/lindsey-graham-white-house-whistleblower

"Meadows said there was no "quid pro quo" from Trump regarding his request for the investigation and U.S. military aid to Ukraine, noting that Zelensky said he did not feel pressured by Trump during the call."
Zelensky will NOT speak out about dt.. He needs the arms and money and knows if he says anything against dt it will be gone! The threat has already been made!

"It is imperative we find out which White House official talked to the whistleblower and why. Why didn’t they lodge the complaint?" he asked on Twitter. maybe because the whistleblower was putting all the pieces together after hearing bits and pieces of things from different people? who cares who it was that talked to the whistleblower, UNLESS they want to know so they can ostracize, fire, make life miserable, etc. for them? All that matters is that SOMEONE finally did. Right, Lindsey? Because these kinds of allegations need to be investigated, to determine what truth there is to them- right? right??

Believe me when I say that I am/was no fan of Bill Clinton. I voted for him the first time, but not the second. But I am sitting here completely befuddled reading all this crap that Republicans are doing and saying and lying about with this latest scandal with Trump while wondering how they were the party who impeached Clinton for lying about having sex with someone. I can't wrap my brain around any of this.

I hope the whistleblower(s) and sources are all safe.
This is high level stuff. The kind of stuff that gets people "suicided," when the witness/ whistleblower suddenly feels the urge to end it all with three shots to the back of the head, hands tied behind their back, and then stuff themselves in a suitcase and throw themselves into a river.

”Adam Schiff has zero credibility. Another fantasy to hurt the Republican Party!”
&
“Liddle’ Adam Schiff, who has worked unsuccessfully for 3 years to hurt the Republican Party and President, has just said that the Whistleblower, even though he or she only had second hand information, “is credible.” How can that be with zero info and a known bias. Democrat Scam!”
I guess trump’s new strategy is to make what is happening an attack on him & The Republican Party. Before it was all about him.

They don't give two F($*#$(s about justice and the Constitution. They only care about their mafia-like ways of omerta and closing ranks and punishing anyone who 'goes against the family'.

Are there any guesses who the whistleblower is? If it doesn’t have to be someone who worked or works for the White House my bet is on George Conway.
