Hey, I'm a Republican, so I'm the last person to defend the royal family Ok I am confused about the relationship between being republican and the royal family. I didn't grow up in the states so this one is over my head.

And I'm quite fond of the Queen, so don't hate me too much Thanks both of you. I am Canadian/American. Growing up in Canada I confess I never fully embraced following the royal family to the extent of most of the people in my life. Even now, without googling, I can't remember the names of the princes wives or children. I am that pitiful.

I can sort of understand not following them too closely but she is Canada's head of state too.

Anarchist commune, anyone?

I used to be amazed at how much Americans seemed to know about the personal lives of their leaders for example. Growing up in Canada we never put that much emphasis on our prime minister's wives, and pets for example. Same with me and the royal family. I mean I didn't live under a rock so I could speak about Charles and Diana quite a bit, but their kids and all the other royals in the last 20 years, not really.

Now it's Prince Harry's turn who is suing to other newspapers for phone hacking. What the heck is wrong with these newspapers that they think they have the right to invade someone's privacy in such a way. He's suing both the Mirror and the Sun. The Sun is owned by Rupert Murdock the same owner as the now defunct News of the World who were also taken to court for phone hacking of a number of celebrities as well as a cell phone of a young girl that had been abducted and killed, giving her family false hope that she was still alive a few years ago. Apparently this relates to issues back in 2010 ish? It could be. I googled it and it was all quite vague, some sites said they had no details of what the action relates to, one said it was from "Before H & M met" and another said it was from 2011. So it seems that detail hasn't been made public yet. If it is from when he was dating Chelsy Davey and the voicemail in question was from his brother, it seems pointless to be suing them now - almost 10 years later?? If that's it, then he's losing the plot! While I agree it is never OK to hack anyone's phone (famous or not) he needs to come to terms with the fact that he'll always be a target, if he continues to focus on every media invasion from the past 10 years it's going to make for a very miserable life. Does he really think it's going to change? I suspect it will just generate more interest in their private lives and make them both more of a target for negative press.

This is the BBC's report on it. It was a long time ago but some claims from other people (celebs) were only settled this year so it hasn't been dead and buried for years but I do agree - seems strange to do this now. BBC

BBCI think there's a multitude of reasons why he's doing it now. At the time of the phone hacking Buckingham Palace didn't take any action when Prince William's was hacked........they didn't do that kind of thing...suing or in fact acknowledge anything with their statements of " no comment". Things have changed since then though and they are now more critical and as in the case of the Cambridge's they do now take action. In many respects it's escalated for Prince Harry and Meghan. More so from people like Pierce Morgan who takes every opportunity to bash Meghan for everything she does, but guess who was the editor of the Daily Mirror when it all broke out in 2011.....non other than PM who denied that he knew anything about it but wasn't so innocent if one has read the inquiry into the matter. He also worked for the Sun before that.Even today he's ranting about them on twitter. I think the publishing of the letter was the straw that broke the camel's back.

What are the odds that Trump will point to Harry's suits to jump on the bandwagon of "horrible hostile press". I'd say it's a good bet, and w/in the next few days. Takers?

Her dad has jumped into the spotlight anytime a reporter will talk with him. So does her half sister who lives about 45 minutes from me in a dumpy house. huh ?

She is talking about Meghan's dad and her step-sister. Apparently Meghan wrote her dad a letter and he released only part of the letter to the press. The half-sister is the one who has been in the newspapers about not invited to the wedding, christening, blah blah blah. I HAVE NO DOG IN THIS FIGHT. Simply for clarification for scrappintoee
