My sister and I are on our way to a lake with our families and my grandson about 1.5 hours from home for the weekend. She wanted to know how long we've been going to this lake, so I took a guess that it has been at least 45 years. She called our Mom because Mom did put photos in magnetic albums but didn't journal or write anything about the photos in the regular albums, but in our camping albums she did record the place and date. She was able to tell us our first trip to this lake was 47 years ago. And then of course we had to reminisce about what was happening in the photos, our memories of going to the lake when we were younger and the different owners of the resort.

Place and date can be tremendously helpful, certainly much better than nothing! If all we ever did was note who when and where on the backs of all our printed photos our descendants would be pretty happy with us!

My mom captioned every photo on the back. Date for sure and lots of time, places or occasion. I can really appreciate that now especially since none of us do it.

Dates are VERY important to me. One of the things I have taught my girls (and husband) is to date everything! It's a joke now even when they give me a card. If the date is missing, they hear about it. Or they just laugh when I check for the date before reading the card. And I was just trying to find out when I was baptized the other day with my mom. She was trying to find old pictures and notes with the date. Super important for sure!
