A little background: My first grandson is currently 8 months old. I've scrapbooked for almost 25 years and my 27 yo daughter (grandson's mama) had always loved them and worked on her own for awhile when she was younger, but has shown little interest or has the time right now to scrapbook.
For his birthday, I'm tossing around the idea of making a "baby's first year" scrapbook as a birthday gift. Probably will be mostly pocket pages with traditional layouts throughout. Has anyone done this as a gift? Any other ideas, or suggestions? I want to make SOMETHING but I'm not sure if there's a better idea out there.
Any ideas and suggestions you can share wil be most appreciated!

I did an album of my granddaughter’s first year. I started it in January of 2012 and finished it in July 2013. The layouts are posted on my blog during those times. The link to my blog should be in my signature Links to the years and months are on the right, so it should be pretty easy to find, and the blog entry titles show which entries are the baby album.
It was greatly appreciated by my DDIL.

I have but I started it when my first great nephew was born. It's a 12 x 12 with layouts by month--kind of--with added special occasions like baptism, First Holidays etc. I ended it with a page that says "promoted to Big Brother" as he will have a little brother in November. (added the page well after his first bday)

Well I have already completed 7 albums of my 8 month old granddaughter's first year. I have slowed down on photo taking because that is too many.
However, related to your question, I have done a first year album in 12x12. Each 2 page spread was one month. There were extra pages for birth, holidays and first birthday.
For my granddaughter I have an album with a 2 page spread for each month. I choose 4-6 of my favorite photos from the month. On the first page I have a photo taken each month from birth and they are all on one page. I can post pics if needed.
For myself I have a 6x6 album with my favorite photos from the larger album. I have them identified by month.
