Another cutie/critter challenge A: Use a cute element that takes you out of your comfort zone. Maybe that means using an element that’s much cuter than you would usually use. Or take a cute element and put it in an unexpected place, use it in an unexpected or weird way. (All totally subjective - don't stress about it! If you think it counts, it counts). B: Alternatively, use a coloring medium or technique that’s out of your comfort zone. One point for A or B, but if you do both A and B you can take 3 points. I have a few samples for this one: These extra-cute "gorjuss girls" have a darker vibe, but I don't think dark woods would be the obvious setting for them. And that die is actually a SSS kit die that had a swing and was intended to be more summery. I added some Halloween papers behind the 2nd and 3rd examples. Santoro Gorjuss Girl in dark woods by jo.blackford, on Flickr Gorjuss girls cuties in dark spooky woods by jo.blackford, on Flickr And a different kind of example: I had these two new supplies on my desk at the same time - the sun and clouds cover die and the portrait pals critter stamps, both from Hello Bluebird. I had a brainwave that I could make a cute card with the giraffe having its head in the clouds. I also haven't done much coloring with markers, so I might give myself the bonus for that (but if I'm being honest, I added that challenge to push myself to use my watercolors!) giraffe clouds and sun card-2 by jo.blackford, on Flickr

Another awesome challenge, joblackford! Love what you have done with those definitely cute little girls using that diecut and the Halloween theme! Very cool. And the giraffe with his head poking up through the cards is FUN! Can't wait to see your take on this, nylene. And everyone else of course . I just got home yesterday. Have not created ANY cards this month, except the sample for day one. Got a few critter dies from Karen Burniston a couple of weeks ago. Hoping I can use them for some of these critter challenges.

I’m afraid I blatantly copied your idea as far as the clouds, but it went perfectly with a cute stamp set from Inky Antics that I had bought at GASC in June. I had not gotten around to using it yet, so this was the perfect time, especially since I don’t have many cute critter stamps. After I created the background with stencils, I used a shimmer embossing paste on the die-cut clouds, which was definitely out of my comfort zone. I don't like messy stuff, and I don't feel that I know how to use embossing paste well. I used different thicknesses of foam to get varying depth for my layers, a reflection of the challenge that I posted yesterday. The balloon string was stiffened with Glossy Accents and curled around a long straight pin.

scrapnnana , That is the cutest card. I love the balloon and your coloring. The texture paste looks great. Fun sentiment. OK, Miss joblackford , you really sent me out of my comfort zone. Since I have no image stamps, I thought I would investigate digital stamps. I had no idea where to get them or how to use them. After some research I found a couple on Whimsy Stamps and downloaded them. I dug out some old watercolor pencils and began coloring. Deciding what to do with the froggie girl took longer. I thought she would look comfortable on a beach, so I put her on a stage. I know she's kind of crazy, but I have a sister who will love her. Thanks for stretching me and making me learn a new computer technique. Lookin' Good Froggie

scrapnnana I love your hedgehog in the clouds! Good for you, working with the embossing paste. I'm not a big fan of the messy stuff either - I think the last time I used embossing paste was last CARDtober! I love the little touch of using the glossy accents to get the string to do your bidding. nylene what a fun card! I love the way you created the scene - the lights and the wooden stage. Very cool. And I'm impressed by how far you went to meet the challenge. I love that you were able to make a card that's totally unexpected but is still something you can use. I'm sure your sister will love her. And now you know about digital stamps I haven't used them much myself, but they can be a really great option.

That's so cool azcrafty and a perfect sentiment! such a neat card. There's something about all those strings too <3 Brushos on photo paper...? Is that gloss photo paper? I tried that with distress oxides but I haven't tried with my Brushos!

@azcraft, that is such a cute little critter floating through space. I love what you did on the background. I love the spots of colors and the textured moon. Adorable.

I tried that with distress oxides but I haven't tried with my Brushos! I used the back side of it,when I first tried this out I used the glossy side and when I wanted to dab of some excess water the whole paint came off because of that glossy coating. Now I just use the back side and a heat gun to dry the layers and everything. I hope this makes sense.

okay - this little mermaid is very much out of my comfort zone - Dh bought me the collection kit Echo Park Little Mermaids because it was on deep clearance and he thought it was cute - it IS cute but I don't really DO cute and or pinks/purples or mermaids... Both the mermaid and the background are cut-apart cards.

Linda your mermaid card is lovely! It sounds like it's waaaay out of your comfort zone! Do you have a plan for the card? Hopefully you know someone who loves mermaids and those colors I used that collection pack from TM to make a bunch of cards for donating to sick kids.

Thank you - I don't currently have a plan but I may set it aside for Cards for Soldiers - I bet some deployed soldier has a little girl back home who would enjoy a mermaid.

Well I used a birthday stamp set for my cutie. Something I wouldn't normally do find one stamp from a set to use in a card it wasn't themed for. Wishing You by Dictionary-1, on Flickr

Linda, I chuckled at your "out of your comfort zone" with the mermaid. I'm kind of that way with unicorns and mermaids. But I love that you pulled it off and made a delightful card. I'll bet you'll think of someone who will enjoy this.
