Just a small rant here. I'm so tired of some of the "celebrities" in the paper crafting industry preaching "kindness" and starting kindness campaigns. Don't get me wrong. I'm all about being kind to one another and helping out those in need. I do it every day and encourage others to do it too. What really gets to me is how hypocritical some of them are. I've seen their comments on social media, especially YouTube. Many of them are very tight with someone we all know has been very unkind to a lot of people and others in the industry. Again, I'm not against kindness. I don't like bullies and hypocrites, though. OK. Rant over. Thank you.

That's why I never got into the "celebrity" scrapbookers. I worked a CKU convention once and what I saw behind of the scenes and the attitude of some of these women that were worshiped at these conventions was a big turn off.
Currently there is a scrapbooker who I enjoy her videos and I really try to not let her fangirls ruin it for me because they are a turn off.

By "be kind", they mean "be quiet and don't criticise me or those I affiliate with in this sphere." It's the social media equivalent of finger-wagging and tutting. Reinforces the herd mentality of their most vocal followers as well.

I agree 100%. If I watch these people it’s to get crafting ideas not to be preached at. I know there is one, don’t remember who, that is constantly giving inspirational advice and to me it just seems so fake. Since when are they qualified to be life coaches?

Maybe mean people craft too. Where are they supposed to go for inspiration? In fact I think I know some who do

sleepingbooty perfect! There's a problem if you must have a banner or t-shirt to remind you to be Kind. Or to Laugh. Or worst yet, BREATHE.

Just gets overwhelmed & needs to remember to take a deep breath and rest before refocusing & moving forward. Not that they aren’t actually breathing at all but to just take a moment to really breathe. Some days I could use a reminder.

I need the reminder to breathe while I’m fussy cutting. I’m bad about holding my breath because I’m afraid I’ll mess it up! 😂

SO tempted to register @scrapvillain on IG now. OMG, that is such a cool screen name! I agree about the "kindness" overkill at present. I personally would never buy card sentiments with this sort of theme. There is a big difference between real-world kindness (do good things), and the hypocritical kindness online looks for (never criticize or offer suggestions, all is perfect). OTOH, it is nice to remind kind people - like me! - that we really do make a difference overall. That kindness DOES matter and does go overlooked. And sometimes is stomped upon by unkind people. So I don't actually think there is anything wrong with the sentiment overall. But I think they are "preaching to the choir".

Can you tell us about the good ones? This was at the height of the CK Hall of Fame, back when some people would run over their grandma to get published in CK and become one of their "celebrities". Let's just say some of the CK people and "celebrities" were not so nice behind closed doors. I also did some work with Memory Makers and it was night and day difference. The people involved with the magazine especially Michele Gerbrandt the owner were not fake, just people who loved paper crafts/scrapbooking and sharing ideas.

Probably why she got out of the business.

I always say about this new "kindness club" if you're marketing and making a profit off of kindness then you are not kind. Kind people don't make profit from others. When I was a little girl I was taught that is called using people. Night Owl I loved Memory Makers. They were true doll angels in the industry. I also thought they were talented too.

I bought a kindness stamp set from a company recently that raised a lot of money for the hurricane. I liked it because the greetings didn't tell people to be kind, if was more like thank you for your kindness and stuff like that. CK Hall of Fame was before my crafting time. Sounds like an sports award.

I would not go that far. There’s nothing wrong with marketing a quality product that helps people express themselves. No one is “getting used” here. It’s a business transaction. I just think the trend is done now.

I've unfollowed most of them quietly because of this. I also unfollowed anyone who shared the 'don't support AliExpress' image that was circulating like crazy, too. I can't really verbalize why, but the 'kindness' thing got to me and the second one was such an obvious shaming ploy. I think that maybe the kindness one bugs me because it's being done by businesses aiming to make a lot of money off of it...I feel like it is more of a concept that should be promoted by a non profit like the 'be kind like Josh' thing is for schools to discourage bullying.
