One of those "Favorite movies for October" lists is going around Instagram and Facebook. But I guess the people posting aren't much for horror movies. They are listing movies like Hocus Pocus, Practical Magic and The Nightmare Before Christmas. All great movies, but I LOVE horror movies. So I have to make my own list of 13.
The Conjuring (whole series) Annabelle (whole series) Poltergeist The Others Thir13en Ghosts The Exorcist It (both versions) The Sixth Sense Insidious Rosemary's Baby Ouija Origin of Evil Child's Play The Shining
What's on your list?

I can’t watch horror movies anymore. I used to love them, but real life these days is scary enough I guess. So my list would include Nightmare Before Christmas, It’s the Great Pumpkin Charlie Brown, Frankenweenie, Casper, and whatever else I can find on Netflix or Prime that’s kid friendly. I usually watch those shows with my DD9 when DH isn’t home monopolizing the tv, so it can’t ever be anything too scary or she’s sleeping in my bed (no thanks, LOL). This was a kid that even saying the word ‘zombie’ in her presence would send her running off crying just a few years ago, so yeah. Nothing scarier than Jack Skellington around here.

I need to watch The Shining again. I want to see the sequel that is out or coming out, Dr. Sleep. I need to refresh myself with the original.
I don't have any must-watch movies. But I would add the original Halloween. I mean, it's a classic!

I like ones like Sixth Sense or The Others.. I don't like the It ones or definitely The Exorcist. NO way... I do like the original Children of the Corn though.. it's a little corny now, but still those kids CREEP me out to this day, but I love it. Or give me a good Stephen King (that isn't "It")... movie...

But I would add the original Halloween. I mean, it's a classic! If you have time, read the book. It's one of his shortest. Stephen King hated what Kubrick did with his book and had nothing to do with the making of the movie. I imagine Doctor Sleep will be more in line with the books since he was involved this time.

I re read it a few months ago, in preparation for the Doctor Sleep movie coming out, and am reading Doctor Sleep now. Such a difference!! There is just so much detail in the book that is missed, which is really true in any book vs. movie... I prefer to read the book before seeing the movie if possible.

The Haunting of Hill House mini-series, although I haven't finished it yet. The scariest movie ever Return to Oz. Who thought that was a kid movie? The 80's...

Definitely the original "Halloween"! Just the music gives me the creeps.
Have you seen "It Follows"? It might be considered more of a thriller, but the premise is terrifying in a "what would I do?" kind of way.
A disturbing horror-thriller, if you like that kind of thing, is "Funny Games", from Austria. Bad humans, no monsters.
The original "Nightmare on Elm Street". As a person with a sleep disorder, the idea of not being able to sleep was a frightening concept.
Kind of charming, but "An American Werewolf in London".

I never watched the Halloween series, maybe one or two, so I wasn't enthusiastic about my daughter's suggestion that we watch Halloween last night. (the one that came out last year)
OMG It was soooo good! I knew the general backstory, and I think it helped, but the story was great, the soundtrack was really amazing too...

The original movie The Haunting (1963) is one of the best scary movies I have seen. I have only seen it in the theater though, so that may help, it is very suspenseful. I love the Scream series too. April Fools Day was one of my favorites in Jr High, but I don’t know how it holds up.

How could I forget "Carrie"? I'm pretty sure there are multiple versions. I'm not sure which is best.
There was also a 70's movie called "The Other" (not to he confused with "The Others") about a pair of twins, one of them evil, that my brother and I liked to watch when it showed up on tv.
I'm not sure how "The Omen" has held up, but Damien was one of the original bad seeds, which reminded me of the classic "The Bad Seed", which then reminded me of "Whatever Happened to Baby Jane?" That in turn reminded me of "The Nanny", because as a kid, Bette Davis just frightened me in general.

The Changeling with George C Scott. My daughter bit me in shock during one scene! The Lady in White I love the Lady in White. I have it on DVD, hoping some day a digital release happens. It's one of those movies that takes a sweet song and makes it creepy as shit for me now. Have you ever seen a ghost walking...well I did. HaHaHA Now that is going to be stuck in my head.

And two recent weird, disturbing ones that I wonder if I completely understood: The Witch Hereditary Hereditary was pretty effed up, and not what I was expecting. I read they changed the ending half way through filming, so that could be part of it. I wish there were more witch horror movies. Like practical magic with a touch more evil to it.

And two recent weird, disturbing ones that I wonder if I completely understood: The Witch Hereditary I made the mistake of watching Hereditary on a plane. At one scene, I blurted out "Oh Shit! Oh Fuck!" (pardon my French) You probably know which scene. That movie freaked me out.
And along those lines, Midsommar. Also disturbing.

Hush, Hush Sweet Charlotte is another great Bette Davis horror movie, although, for this child of the 80’s money, Watcher in the Woods is her scariest movie. Ha! Something Wicked This Way Comes isn’t a horror movie, per se, but it scared the tar out of me on my youth. I liked the Others with Nicole Kidman.

I typically do not like the horror/slasher films. I prefer movies that are more psychological thriller or a good ghost type of story. I don't care for the occult/Exorcist types. I am amused by the B horror movies too.
I like almost any Alfred Hitchcock movie The Village The Others The Lady in White Watcher in the Woods The Changeling Sixth Sense Bad Seed Carrie Misery Orphan The Shining Whatever Happened to Baby Jane?
I saw Scary Ghost Stories to Tell in the Dark and I quite enjoyed the movie! Just the right amount of suspense, an interesting story line, and not too much gross stuff.
*I have not seen Psycho
Movies that I thought were dumb, but made me laugh was Child's Play and Rosemary's Baby. If I had seen the movies when they were actually made, I'm sure they would have scared me. I know Watcher in the Woods was a Disney movie, but I saw that damn thing when I was a kid!
Not a movie, but I do enjoy Twilight Zone.
