DH did something to our computer (don't worry he's a professional computer tech) and I no longer have access to Picasa I don't do a lot of editing besides cropping and maybe a color tweak here and there but I do need some type of organizer, and I hate subscriptions. Photoshop Elements might be more complicated than I need, plus I can't tell if it actually organizes the photos (from reading reviews) What do you use? I loved Picasa... sniff sniff.

I've used Lightroom for a number of years. I like how it functions.

I continue to download Picasa onto my updated machines. I have noticed some changes to how the print tray works. but I'm stuck in the Picasa era.

I still use Picasa. I only use it as a front end to my file windows file system though. I hate the windows photo viewer.

I still use it too. I had to hunt down a download, but I haven’t liked anything else.

Picasa here as well. I've tried lightroom and photoshop elements, but I come back to Picasa. When I got a new laptop I made my husband hunt down a download for me because I "needed" it.

On my computer photos have always been organized using the regular file structure YYYY>MM>Events within the month if needed FWIW my photos were always organized this way even when I used Picassa (which I loved). Your photo files are not stored in Picassa but in your hard drive. Picassa just enables you to view and play with those files "remotely" if that makes sense. You just tell Picassa which folders you want it to look in for photos. I always kept my photos neatly organized in folders so that I'm never dependant solely on a program. It has served me well as I have transition between programs that have changed/become obsolete.

I use Lightroom because I needed something to manage a huge photo library that I keep on external hard drives and also to do batch editing for my work, but it's a subscription program and way more complex than what you need.
Adobe Bridge is an organizer you can use with Photoshop products like Elements. Apparently it's free to get and use, but from what I read it can't do much beyond organizing - you'd pull your photos into PSE to do the actual editing (I think). But if you were considering buying the new PSE 2020 (~$100) you would get Bridge to use with it to manage and organize your "digital assets."
It sounds like you'd rather stick with Picasa though - is there any way to get it again despite the changes your DH made? I hope so! It sucks having to give up something that was working well for you.

I have a main Photo Folder on my desk top that then has folders in it. Examples are 2019 pumpkin patch, 2017 Christmas Eve, 2013 *name* 10th birthday, ect.
So when I save from my SD chip, I create folders and save the photos in them. When I edit i name the photos but keep them in the same folder.
It is all organized by year, event, and child or family.
Easy to save the folders to my external hard drives too (3 of them)

I use Photos on my Mac. It connects automatically to my iPhone so my photos automatically upload to Photos. I store my photos on iCloud and I also have a paid subscription for SmugMug. I love SmugMug. It let's me share with anyone much easier than my Photos.
I used to organize the Stacy Julian /Library if Memories way. But I found that too complicated. I am trying to figure out a better system.

Photoshop Elements does have an organizer. It is still a perpetual license so no subscription. Here's a good review from Digital Scrapbooking HQ: digitalscrapbookinghq.com/review-whats-new-in-photoshop-elements-2020/She also has classes on learning both the editing and organizing side of PSE. I use Lightroom because I love the editing features. It is so quick and easy. I still use Lightroom 6 because I don't want a subscription or for my software to be in the cloud. I have PSE too for digi scrapping.

I am also an Apple Photos (& iCloud) user. I sort them in that app into folders by month, and use that folder to narrow down what to scrap (PL style). I can delete from the folder, but the photo is still available (just not in that folder). I use Google Photos and Amazon Photos as online backups.

I thought if I deleted something from a folder it would delete it everywhere! *mind blown*
