I searched but didn't see this answered exactly. For those who had the normal reactions, how soon after the shot did they start? I know the symptoms and the average times they're lasting, but want to know time between shot & any crummies. Thanks!
UPDATE: had my 1st shot yesterday morning 0900. Not much reaction at all! A tiny intermittent stabbing in my left temple last evening, and a stabbing in my right anterior elbow this morning (both easily chased away with a couple ibuprofen.) Only a bit of soreness at the injection site, no more than any other shot. I hope the second is as easy, but I know they can be very different.

Mine was about 24 hours from shot to feeling icky.

I haven’t had it yet - just had shingles a couple of years ago. But my Dh had both installments of Shingrix and started feeling bad within 24 hours of the shot.

I got my first one about 10 days ago, must have been at about 10am. By that evening I was dog tired, and that lasted into the following day. Other than a sore arm that was my only side effect.

I felt like I had a weird achey flu and it started about 24 hours after the shot and lasted 24 hours. My arm was super sore for 3-4 days. I won't lie, it packed a punch. Though the shot itself didn't hurt. It's far better than a case of shingles.
elaine have you asked your doctor about the shot? Having had shingles, my dh was told to get the shot, anyway. |

elaine have you asked your doctor about the shot? Having had shingles, my dh was told to get the shot, anyway. I will get the vaccine. With the three surgeries and the chemo in the past 18 months, I haven’t gotten it simply because I was waiting to feel closer to 100% before taking the plunge. I will probably go ahead and get the first Shingrix shot along with my flu shot this week. Shingles are no fun and far worse than any vaccine side effects. I’m sorry that the vaccine walloped you! |

Thank you, everyone so far! This is helping me plan when to get my shot this week, even down to the time of day. It's such a weird thing to be planning to be "sick," but I know whatever it might do to me won't be anything close to actual shingles!

I had flu-like symptoms within a couple of hours from the first shot. It kicked my butt. I had the second shot last week and I thought I was going to get by without any symptoms but I had the shot in the morning and by 10:00 that night I had the flu-like symptoms again. Chills, body aches, fever, headache. My DH had the first shot the same day I had the second and we both started with symptoms about the same time. I also had a very red mark around the injection site both times that took several days to go away.
I am glad it’s behind me now but it’s still better than having shingles.

I will probably go ahead and get the first Shingrix shot along with my flu shot this week. Think twice if you really want them both at the same time. Have you talked to your doctor about the high dose flu shot.... I know it is for me, an old people. I don't know what the thoughts are on it for others who might be compromised. |

How long did you feel sick, Mary? With the first one, about 24 hours. The second one, I started having symptoms about 10 PM. I felt somewhat better in the morning but it was probably midday before I felt back to normal. I should add that I never have any reactions to vaccines so this was surprising. My mom and brother had the shot around the same time DH and I did and had no symptoms at all. |

I had a sore arm immediately. I took ibuprofen and that took care of it. I continued for 3 or 4 days.
I had no other side effects.

Actually, I never felt sick...just had a sore arm for a week. DH never felt sick either and didnt even have a sore arm...but he goes to the gym and also does yoga every day so all that exercise probably made the difference.

Our Medicare advantage paid for most of it...our copay was $45 for each shot.

I felt tired that night and by the next day, I was running a fever and it felt like I had the flu. I’d say that lasted about 12 hours (overnight). I woke up the next morning fever free and was a little tired, but ok otherwise.

I had the original shingles vaccine a few years ago. It only made my arm sore for a day or so. My doctor wants me to get the newer Shingrix and the senior flu shot.
Her office doesn’t do the shots because they are considered a prescription and I need to go to a pharmacy. However, both Walgreens and Costco pharmacies are reporting that the CDC says there is a shortage of both vaccines and it is unlikely I will be able to get either shot until sometime next year. I was able to get both of my pneumonia shots, so at least there’s that.

The morning after the shot I woke up and had every single side effect and felt like I got hit by a truck. It is still better than shingles, but it was not pleasant.

First shot:no reaction. Second shot:almost exactly 24 hours. Fever, chills, felt like I’d been beaten. All went away in about 8 hours.

We’re covered fully here once we turn 50. I’m one of those ‘lucky’ few who has had chickenpox twice - I plan on getting the shingles shot the day after my 50th birthday.

Since I'm 71, I didn't ask the age requirement. |

Just had my first one last month and my arm was sore for about 8 hours and that was it. Husband’s arm was sore 3 days for the first and 1 day for the second. He ran a low fervor one day with the second. FYI I had chicken pox and I take Zovirax for a leg outbreak. Don’t know if that makes a difference.

I only had a sore arm and a bruise from shoulder to elbow because the pharmacist that gave the shot hit a vein. Took forever to go away.
