The super flu shot is for age 65 and above. FYI...the new shingles shot has to have the second one between about two and six months. Apparently, you have to start over if the time between gets too long. There is a continuous shortage and it can take months to be on a waitlist. So...only get it where they set aside the second dose for you. Have them make the second appointment when you get the first. I have had several friends frantically trying to track down the second shot as their time was running out and every place was out of the vaccine. Here, they book the second shot at the same time you get the first one. It is manufactured in Puerto Rico. For a while, the excuse was that the lab had been damaged in the hurricane. But lab was back up and running months ago but the shortage still exists.

I had my first Shingrix shot yesterday and have been laid up all day with a 100.5 degree fever and really achy. Boo.
It is still better than actual shingles, but I’m going to have to plan when I get #2 carefully so that I can take some time off from meetings.

My dh had it about a week ago. He felt a little off starting about twelve hours after the shot and then flu-like about 24 hours after the shot. Very tired and achy, but he felt ok the next morning and didn’t need to take off work. Just take off the night from kid/household duties.

We’re covered fully here once we turn 50. I’m one of those ‘lucky’ few who has had chickenpox twice - I plan on getting the shingles shot the day after my 50th birthday. Really? My doctor told me it had to go through my DH's benefits. I checked with them and we are fully covered for it through them. It was suggested I get both Shingrix and the Prevnar13 now that I'm over 50.

I walked into my local Walgreens and got it there. I didn’t pay a penny - insurance paid for all of it and we have Tricare which can be a stickler about paying for some things if you don’t get them at a military facility. The good news is that even though my fever was up to 101 when I went to bed, it is back to normal this morning and I’m feeling much better.

Ah - Dalai Mama and I are both in Ontario though I believe, so different rules here. But DH has 100% drug coverage at work, and both shots are covered in full for me. But now that I know there are possible side effects (I should really read the pamphlets the doctor sent me home with lol) I can time it for a first thing Monday am, so my feel crappy day is early in the week and won't affect cake work!

I had my second Shingrix vaccine last Thursday. The first was was nothing, just a sore arm. This time the arm was less sore, but I had a headache and swollen glands in my neck about 24 hours later. That lasted about a day, maybe a little more.
For those looking to get it, my clinic did not have it available. CVS at Target did. They also said they would give me priority access to the 2nd one. They sent me a text saying I had a prescription ready, but did not say it was the Shingrix. Luckily, I was going in to pick up multiple prescriptions and they told me there.

I had my first shot yesterday around 12:30. My arm was sore by that evening. I didn’t sleep great and i woke up feeling kind of ‘eh’ - not horrible but not really up to getting up and out. I’m still in bed 10am) and I am usually up and moving by 7am. So I think I’ll just lay low and hope it wears off by tomorrow.

Oh Lordee, the Shingles shot makes you feel sick? Ack! I need it because if I were to get shingles I couldn't easily work at my shop. Too many pregnant mom and babies come in. Okay, better schedule the shot around my days off.

Okay, better schedule the shot around my days off. Yes, schedule to get it the day before you can take a day or two off. The Shingrix vaccine contains both a dead virus and also an adjuvant drug which stimulates the immune system. The stimulation of the immune system makes the vaccine 97% effective in people 50-69 y.o. who get both shots - which is amazing - but, for some people the adjuvant works really well and provokes a strong immune reaction for 1-2 days.

I got my first shot Friday afternoon after work. Dr had told me to take it when I had a free weekend. My arm is sore, but no other problems. Our pharmacy (local) said they would contact me for the 2nd round.

A very light case when I was little and a ***** of a case in the 7th grade. Is the shingles vaccine something you have to get once a year? Is there an age requirement? I’m 48.

They are recommending it for 50 and over, so your insurance may balk over paying for it. But, given you’ve already had shingles twice, I bet your primary care physician would recommend it and then insurance would pay. No, you don’t have to get it yearly. They know it is effective for at least 4-5 years, but since it is new, they haven’t yet come up with recommendations for re-vaccination.

I haven't actually had shingles before, it was chicken pox that I had twice. Not sure if that makes a difference, but I'll definitely tell my doctor about it.
