Has anyone done this? My ipad mini is in excellent working condition but it just doesn't hold enough anymore. I have a 16 gb and I am now mainly using it for reading books and magazines and listening to podcasts (and plan to listen to audiobooks) plus watching craftsy classes (these take up the most room, I think). In addition I often take screen shots of magazine pages if I want to refer back to them again. Right now I have 1 gb of available space which means a lot of books/videos won't download at all until I remove some. I've deleted almost all of the photos/screen shots since they're on the cloud. I went through the process and apple will give me $70 for my tablet, to be put towards a new one. Would it be better to take it to an apple store for trade (about 2 hours away) or is the mail-in program pretty much the same? I would like to get a refurbished one and I'm not sure if any apple stores sell those.
I have a samsung tablet as well but it is so slow and choppy and the ipad mini is so smooth and fast. So I think I might find a place to sell my samsung too.

I’ve traded in devices with Apple. Other places may give you slightly more but I was upgrading both times so I just did everything at one place and time. I did mine in store, not by mail. Apple does sell refurbished models, but I think you have to order them online

I bought my watch thru Apple and sent my old one back for credit. It went smoothly and i'd do it again.

When I was looking at the refurbished models it gives the option to pick them up at the apple store. If I opt for that can I take my current one and trade it in there?

Interesting. Is it worth it to trade? Do they give you a decent trade-in price?

Earlier this year DD and I both traded in our old iPads for newer models. It was a seamless process in store. I've done the mail-in rebate program before. They just issue you a credit that can be used for Apple products, either online or in an actual store. If you don't need the credit immediately to apply to your new iPad, then the mail program would work. However, if you are depending on that credit to help pay for the new iPad at time of purchase, then going to the store would be better. Interesting. Is it worth it to trade? Do they give you a decent trade-in price? It's been worth it to me when I've traded in devices. It definitely beats letting them sit in a drawer and become a metal brick. I've been happy with the prices they've given me for the old ones. Perhaps I could make a bit more selling it on my own, but that is an added set of hassles and worries I'd rather not have.

DH traded in his 6s+ when he upgraded to an 8+. They gave him about $50 less at AT&T than he would have gotten at an Apple store (his was purchased at an Apple store and wasn’t tied to AT&T) but it was worth it to him to just be done and not have to wait in line for two hours at the mall. When I upgraded from my 6s to an 8, they were only going to give me $75 for it so I kept it to give to DD to use as a camera and iPod (no cell service plan) since a comparable iPod touch in an Otterbox case would cost way more than that for the storage size my old phone has. I think it really depends on whether you can find a way to repurpose the old device or not. We have three old 4s iPhones that probably are worth nothing and should just be recycled.

You can put ithe info on your current ipad in on their site and it will tell you how much of a credit you will get for it. I’ve traded in phones but not an iPad yet. It’s always gone smoothly.

Interesting. Is it worth it to trade? Do they give you a decent trade-in price? It can vary, but when I upgraded my Series 2 Watch to a Series 4, they gave me far more than I expected. I want to say it was nearly $200. Could I have gotten slightly more selling it myself? Probably. Would that extra hassle be worth it to me for a few dollars more? Not in the slightest. It was a very smooth process. I did it in-store because I have one close, but I imagine the mail-in process is also easy.

I don’t know how they work it if you buy online for pickup. They will take the trade in but I don’t know if you can apply it right away to the pickup since I think you pay for the pickup ahead of time right?

I think my kid’s school sometimes collects old cell phones for recycling too, and I think they might get something for them to raise money for the school too. It’s been a while since I looked into it.

I have an original Ipad.. I bet I could get $5 for it!! It works but no apps work on it anymore. There are a few on there but I can't do much with it. So there it sits. Mocking me.

My husband and I always sell ours. We get a lot more if we do so than if we trade them in. If the difference was $50 or less, I’d just trade it, but we find that it’s significantly more, since I tend to take really good care of my electronics.

Yes, it looks like for my iPad Air 2, I could only get $100 or less. I guess it's better than nothing but I expected it to be a bit more. How do you generally sell them on your own? eBay?

I got practically double for selling it (it was pristine, unlocked, 256gb).
