There’s really nothing to be scared about! Start low and go slow, as the government says. If you have too much nothing awful will happen. Remind yourself you’ve consumed cannabis, it’s impossivle to die from that, and soon you’ll feel better. Some people say consuming citrus can offset any uncomfortable feelings. Welcome to the club. We have a friend whose grandson ate a gummie and almost overdosed and was hospitalized because of it. Apparently the amount in the gummy was 8 times what it should have been. This is what we have been told and what the Dr. and the professionals have said to them. I did not ask for more details, obviously the family is very upset. No drug is safe for everyone. What were his overdose symptoms and treatment? That is scary

There could have been something else in the gummie they have not found yet.

Wow, I’ve never ever had a thread resurrected before, figures it’s this one....lol. I am still purchasing new strains periodically. I have purchased a dry herb vape, and a dynavap since I last posted. I prefer my battery operated vape more. I feel that it’s not as harsh as smoking, and if you get a tasty strain it’s more pleasant.

I don’t want to smoke anything, but I would be willing to try the edibles. It is legal here, I just haven’t gotten the nerve to try it. I’m probably the child of the 60’s who has never tried weed. This is where I am. Don't want to smoke but give me the edibles and Im in. I don’t like to smoke it either but it’s the easiest way to dose (thc vape pen). I’ve been sleeping amazingly the past few months with a few hits before bed. And I also enjoy it with a glass of wine. 😄 I’ve also had pretty good sleep with Indica edibles and no side effects at all.

If you have children it is imperative to keep your edibles locked away and hidden from your kids. Treat them the same way you'd treat your other prescription drugs. Kids don't realize that edibles aren't candy and when they find them they will eat them. Smalltowngirlie I'm so sorry that happened to your friends. I hope their grandson came through it okay.
Different states have different laws as to the purity of their cannabis products. In Maryland for instance in the vape cartridges (these are oil filled cartridges that you use with a vape pen) the only ingredients allowed in the oil is cannabis. Other states may allow filler oils to be added which isn't as healthy.
If you buy from a Maryland state approved dispensary all of the products have been inspected and tested for their purity. I feel good knowing this and so that's why I buy my cannabis from the dispensaries in my state.
When you go to your first dispensary ask them about the Cannabis state laws in your state and about the testing and purity of their products.
As to the question about driving. I use cannabis every day. It acts as a migraine preventive for me, and does that exceptionally well. I used to get 20-25 migraines a month. Now I get 4-6 a month just from using Cannabis. I still don't drive while under the influence. I wait until night to use and it's relaxing for me. It takes away my stress which is my number one trigger. But each person is different. I asked this question of the budtenders in the beginning of my journey and they said once you get used to it (like after 6 months) you can drive. I did it one time when I got a huge migraine while grocery shopping just to get home. It makes you drive slower and more carefully which is the opposite of drunk driving.
As far as figuring out what strain to use for your particular pain or medical problem, once you get your medical card, or if you are in a legal recreational state-don't worry. When you go to a dispensary there are people working there called budtenders. Like bartender but budtender. Clever, huh? Anyway, they will help you pick a strain-strains are different types of cannabis (weed) with different names and each one specializes in what it treats. There are hundreds of strains. You can also look up different strains on leafly.com before you go to the dispensary if you first look up the dispensary on line and check out what's on their menu. That can get really confusing until you're further along on your journey, but it's very helpful and I do that now. Lot's of times though a strain won't show up on leafly.com (there are new ones popping up all of the time and leafly can't keep up) so the best bet is to ask your budtender to help you choose.
Best of luck to everyone who decides to try this.

And that can happen to anyone, but particularly the inexperienced and in this case the unaware and it's scary, but nothing to be scared of from an overdose stand point. 15+ years ago I was in Amsterdam - back when they had coffee shops every where. In coffee shops is where you could buy pot to smoke there or take with you. You paid by how potent it was and many inexperienced would buy the highest grade thinking they could handle it. We were staying above a bar with a coffee shop a stone's throw away. Our first night a young American kid freaked out and his buddy on shrooms was no help. The bar tender assured us he wasn't overdosing because he couldn't. He gave us bottles of grapefruit juice and bottles of water. He told us to give him the bottle of grapefruit first and then start him on water while walking him around. The bar tender said it would take no more than 15 min and he would settle. He was right. From that point forward we each carried grapefruit juice and water when we were out at night. Every night at least one of us handed out the brochure explaining how you can't overdose on marijuana and gave them grapefruit and water, as the brochure suggested.

You are ingesting a vapor vs. smoke so it's better on your lungs. Plus ingesting cannabis which is good for our bodies (Israel has been studying the effects of cannabis for 50 years) is completely different from ingesting tobacco which is horrible for our bodies. The biggest difference for me is that if I'm in pain I can feel the relief within 3 minutes with vaping. If I use an edible it takes 30-45 minutes to kick in because it has to go through my digestive system. I totally understand the Peas who don't want to smoke for various reasons. I just wanted to point this out for education purposes. Also most of the bad stories you hear in the news regarding vaping involves tobacco vaping or vaping cannabis products bought on the street which can include all kinds of oil filler products in the oil cartridges. That's what happened when there were the cases of popcorn lung in the past. Edibles certainly have their place and I use them too, but not as my only way of dosing. I'll use an edible in conjunction with other dosing to help with a very severe migraine to get rid of it.

I read somewhere that if you take too much inadvertently that you can place a piece of peppercorn between your teeth and that will help. Ashley, have you heard of this? Does it help? There is a form of cannabis called RSO. It's a very strong gel like substance that comes in a plastic syringe (without the needle) and you squeeze it out onto some sort of food and ingest it. I use it when I get very severe migraines and it helps get rid of the pain. When I was first trying it I used too much (they say to use squeeze out about the size of a rice kernel) and I got really high. I couldn't go up the stairs for a drink and was basically stuck down in our finished basement for a few hours until it wore off (everyone else was asleep-I'm a night owl). I didn't feel anxious or upset. I don't have anxiety and luckily never get anxious or paranoid when I use cannabis. But I certainly felt very high. I just watched TV until I came down, and next time used much less. Lesson learned.

Who here is cultivating? I am growing a few strains.
Girl Scout Cookies is lovely. It’s a hybrid and tastes not bad. I dry vape it in my Pax3.
I use edibles for the evening. They are my favourite. If you can believe it I have sugar free edibles that taste good. I can’t believe it either as I am off chocolate.

Please remember that the edibles take a while to kick in, so be careful. Things that are labeled indica have a higher amount of cbd in them compared to sativa strains. Cbd in conjunction with thc is what gives that body high, and most people find that that equates to better pain management. Yup. Remember, indica = in da couch. aka stuck like glue.

We’ve been growing our own for almost a year. A friend gave me a little seedling and it morphed into a hobby for my husband. He has always had a green thumb, he made some cuttings and off we went! Our first strain was Blue Rhino. We bought some seeds and now we are trying Girl Scout Cookie. Recreational is legal in my state.

birukitty , I have not heard of that peppercorn trick. I have heard that citrus can help. I’ve never had occasion to try it out myself. I haven't either. My tolerance is so high at this point that I don't get near that point. By the way Ashley, have you heard of anything that can help high tolerance? I tried stopping cannabis for 30 days and that didn't help at all. I've heard green tea can help but I hate the taste of it. If you've heard that too, I'll certainly give it a try.

Mood wise I need the high but not lalaland. I want to cut back but not reduce mood effects.

Mood wise I need the high but not lalaland. I want to cut back but not reduce mood effects. My problem is high tolerance. Which means when I use cannabis I don't feel anything anymore. When I vape oil cartridges I don't feel anything-no high, no pain relief. It's like it's stopped working for me. No matter how much I use. Same thing with concentrates. Like butter, shatter etc. I did decide to try flower on the advice of my budtender and I was absolutely amazed when I smoked my first joint since 1982 that I felt "high" and that I got pain relief. I've ordered a vaporizer for flower but the first time it arrived they sent the wrong one (ugh!) and now I'm still waiting for the right one to arrive. Today I had a bad migraine-level 8 pain. I smoked a joint of a flower called Lucid Blue. Love this one! Got my pain down to a 3 when I finished which soon was a 0! Nice, relaxing high with no body pain at all. So my advice is whatever method you've been using to ingest cannabis use a different method. If you don't want la, la land, just use less. I don't think there's a way to cut back and increase mood effects except to fine tune your strain choices when you buy. I keep a journal of every single strain I try and I never buy the same strain twice-unless it is exceptional. My body gets too used to a strain and by the time I'm finished a strain the effects are less anyway. I use a notebook to write down the effects I feel when I first use a new strain. You can also do this of course with a smartphone but I'm a traditionalist-I like pen and paper. My point is it's really helpful to keep some kind of record. If you don't know what strain to try don't worry. The budtenders will help you when you go to the dispensary. Tell them what you are looking for especially health wise. Mention the problems you are wanting help with-be it muscle aches, pain, depression, migraines, arthritis, insomnia, and so on. They will help fine tune the search for a perfect strain that will be helpful for you to try.

It varies a lot, my husband keeps experimenting with how he cuts back the branches (he’s done Bonsai plants for years). Our last harvest was 2 plants and I got about 3 quart jars of flower. I got tired of trimming up the little buds and started throwing them in the ‘make edibles’ container and I have at least a quart of trim to make stuff with.

it is not possible to overdose on cannabis. You can have a miserable time on it, but it doesn’t interact with the body the same way other drugs do. This is what I learned in school. Indeed. So I know you can't overdose on cannabis, but back around the holidays I had some gummies. I took two, like usual, and nothing happened (I was expecting to relax) so I added in a Xanax. Holy shit. I thought I was having a heart attack and my arms would not work. It was all I could do not to panic. DH was laughing at me.
