After reporting to jury duty in early 2018, this week I got a summons to jury duty next month. This is at least the tenth time I have been called since I registered to vote when I was 18.
i take my responsibilities as a citizen seriously. I have voted in every national and state election since I registered. I have reported for every call to jury duty (a whole week when you must be available and call each day to see if you are needed after the first day, at the least). I’ve been called to city court, county court, circuit court and maybe others. I can’t remember.
I am so damn tired of this. If there was a random chance to win the lottery, or even a door prize, rest assured I will NEVER be selected. But damn, I am tired of getting randomly selected for this. I can’t tell you how many people I talk to who say, “ Huh, I’ve never been called.” I have done my duty. I have lifted my weight. Over and over. It’s time for some of the other hundreds of thousands of citizens to do their duty. I. Am. Tired. Of. Being. Called.
Thank you for letting me rant. I don’t have too much longer until I am 65, and therefore exempt. After last year’s summons, I thought surely I would be able to turn 65 without another call. F#ck no. And if I am called again in the early part of next year, I will still have to go, as I won’t yet be 65 and it will be a new calendar year. Enough.

we can be called for up to once a year.. after 70 you can bow out all together. fortunately I have never been picked for a jury. I have had to report then sent home because of a clerk's strike. I once was called in Hong Kong, cause I lived there and spoke english (didn't have to go. had a baby)..

Dh and I were just talking about this. He just got his fourth notice in 20 years. I’ve only gotten a notice once. My week was during Christmas week so I didn’t even have to go in at all. Dh has only gone to the court house once but didn’t get picked. We doubt he’ll ever get picked since he’s a corrections officer. His current notice is for next week.

I was called & served on a week long jury when I was 21 years old. I haven't gotten a notice since & I'm in my 40's now. My mom gets notices frequently to call in but has never had to actually go in.

Just once, and I did end up on the jury. I would like to be called again, but where I live now has a bigger pool than where I lived when I was called.

I was first called for jury duty 5 years ago at age 49. I was picked for the jury and the trial lasted 6 days. I’d do it again in a heartbeat. I’d love to be a professional juror.

I don't want to answer in case I jinx myself! But I thought you could not be called within x number of months of serving. Can't remember if it was 12 or 18 months. Let's just say I had to look that up one time to see if it was a legitimate request.

That is likely something that varies from state to state, possibly even county to county, and I have no idea what the federal rules on jury duty are like (if they are the same for all the federal district courts, if they vary from circuit to circuit, or what).

I’ve been called twice but I couldn’t do it either time because I had a very young child and I had no one to watch her so I was able to get out of it. My mom was one of those people who got called up for it a lot. I think she was only on one jury though. I would hate to be one of the unlucky people who gets stuck on a jury for an extended time.

Lots of times. Usually about every other year. I've served on two trials and have made it as far as into the courtroom several times, but was excused for whatever reason. I'm with you in that if this were the lotto, we'd both be rich.

I first was called when I was 37. I got picked and served on a murder trial. My luck, we were even sequestered one night which just happened to be my 1st wedding anniversary.
The next time I was called was 18 years later. I just had to call in everyday for a week. My number was never chosen.
It’s almost 5 years since then. I’ve probably just jinxed myself and I’ll be getting a notice any day now !!!

my adult child gets notices all the time.. she can't serve on a jury so every time I have to get a doctor's letter.. I can't just put one on file. I wish there was a way to permanently get her excused due to disability.

Every four years or so.. did shessoaverage update or renew your license or address?? I've found that seems to be a trigger to get you into the pool again...

Same address for 25 years and my license (renewal every 10 years) isn’t due for renewal until next year. But, you’re right. I’d forgotten that they use DMV records, too, not just voter registrations.

How about Federal Grand jury in the NY/NJ area. Think mob. I went in the snow. Fortunately I was third in front of the judge, I was excused. Single parent, sole source of income, diabetic child, no other caretaker. Worked for a contractor at the time, unknown if my contract would be renewed the following year, could not take off a day every week. Federal Grand jury sits for one day a week for EIGHTEEN months.
Called for Superior Court several times, called the night before, didn't have to go, although these times I would be paid for the day. Retired called again, had to opt out, but when you opt out you can't avoid the next notice. Made it to a courtroom, spoke to the judge about no handicapped parking. They use a parking deck a block away. The judge said she would try to make parking arrangements. Fortunately this time I was excused! I am now exempt.

I've been called once a year for the last 2 years. I was called twice this year....the first time I was given an exemption for medical reasons so they called me again a few months later (sigh).
My husband was called twice last year, once for criminal court and then for federal court. He was called once the year before.
It's annoying because,as you said, so many people have never been called.ugh Jury duty is not my job though it feels like it at times.

DH has been called twice. Both times he was excused because jury duty would have been a hardship (first time was during a busy time for farming and the 2nd time he was working two farms since his parents were incapacitated at the time). I've been called twice. The first time I had a newborn that was nursing so they excused me and the most recent (this week, actually) it was canceled because the defendant accepted a plea deal. DD23 has been called once and it was also canceled. So none of us have ever actually had to serve on a jury.

I have been called so many times I've lost count but I've never had to actually serve. Now I've aged out so won't be called again.

I’m 57 and have been called about 8 times. In MA you only have to report every 3 years and I was thinking recently it’s been more than 3 years since I’ve been summoned. I would love to serve on a jury and got into the juror’s box about 7 years ago on a kidnapping and rape charge but the defendant’s lawyer used a peremptory challenge to dismiss me. I was very disappointed.
