I have PCOS, and it took me 8 years to conceive my son. During those early years, I was referred to my first RE after super heavy bleeding/clotting. Like, I couldn’t bend/get in my car/sit down/stand up without literally exploding. Blasting through a super plus tampon AND an overnight pad in about an hour. It got to the point where I was wearing Depends at age 30 because I was constantly bleeding through my clothes. This lasted for over a year! I also complained about being constantly tired, like fall asleep standing up tired. I was continually told I was “too fat” and needed to lose weight (I’m 5’10” and was 190 pounds at the time - overweight, yes, but carried it pretty well on my frame). I finally got a second opinion and found out I had cysts and uterine polyps. A simple D&C and the non-stop bleeding was over. Also, the medication the first doc put me on was depleting my B vitamin levels, causing my tiredness. But I couldn’t believe the first doctor could just continually brush me off.
I’m 60 now and had my first ovarian cyst the size of an orange at age 12; I had my appendix rupture and they found it when they cut me open. Oh but I was exaggerating the pain🙄. After that I had every symptom of PCOS-low thyroid, chin hair, hard to lose weight and heavy periods until I got on BC. Tired my entire life! Strangely I got pregnant easily at 31 and 40. Had a total hysterectomy at 44 due to multiple cysts appearing in dangerous places (intertwined in my intestines) and unbelievable heavy periods and clotting so a full hysterectomy was ordered. Then it became impossible to lose weight-carried it in midsection, developed diabetes at 50. Just got more and more tired but doctors said thyroid was normal. Well I want to tell you a current experiment I’m doing: I’m doubling my generic synthroid every other day. My lab test showed my number rising but still in range. I’m less tired AND MY BLOOD GLUCOSE NUMBERS HAVE COME DOWN WITH NO CHANGE IN ANYTHING ELSE! Eventually I’m going to have to tell the doctor but I want all the evidence first. They need to look at symptoms not numbers!
