I need new jeans. I'm very short and very um...well, fat. No way around it. And I carry most of it in my stomach, I'm definitely apple shaped. I've been wearing boot cut jeans from Old Navy for years. I'm tired of them and want something not so wide at the ankle. I don't mind spending more, but I also HATE shopping and want them to be comfortable. I've tried Nordstrom's personal shoppers a few times and while I really like some of the other stuff they have helped me find, they keep trying to get me to wear skinny jeans. I'm a size 18 and 5'2". Nobody needs to see me in skinny jeans. Though my husband likes them and I do wear them very occasionally, I feel uncomfortable and definitely don't want to wear them to work (I have a very casual job and wear jeans almost every day). Can anyone recommend a style, brand, store etc? UPDATE--I went to Maurice's this weekend. I couldn't find any straight leg jeans in my size, somehow they just didn't seem to have much of a selection. However I did find a pair of slim boot cut which are less full than the ones I've been wearing and in a lighter wash. Plus the length is a little better for me. I also found a couple of really cute and flattering shirts on clearance. So that's a start! I'm going to keep looking for more.

I am no help because I am 5'9" and carry all my weight in my middle too. I have trouble finding jeans that are big enough in the waist and not huge in the hips because I have zero hip and very long legs!

I like skinny jeans or jeggings so that I can wear them with booties. I think they look great on people of all sizes and can be dressed up or down. I also like when I can find ankle length or cropped (as long as the ankle opening is ok) because then I don't have to hem them (I am 4'11").
If you don't want skinny jeans, straight leg or slim boot cut might work well for you. I typically wear Silver jeans but recently bought some Universal Thread jeans from Target and really like them as well. (Both come in short lengths online--some Target stores have short length in store for some of the styles). I don't know if the Target ones come in straight leg or not, but Silver does have a variety of styles. If you know what size you need, they have great deals online. Maurices also carries them and they have sales fairly often. Actually, if you have a Maurices store close by I would go there and try a bunch of styles on.

I just got three pair at American Eagle (jeans currently 25% off). These are two of the three pair. I wanted a wider leg to go over my tall Frye boots, so these are more like a straight leg, rather than a flare. AE has sizes up to 24 and short, regular and tall. I'm an apple too, and I love the high waist, so I won't have to keep hiking them up over mah big belly. I am going to have to tailor the legs because pant legs are always huge on me, as I have no hips, thighs and ass.

Not to hijack the post, but I am plus size and cannot find comfy pants to wear to work. I was getting some Just My Size pants with a nice elastic waist (hey who cares, I always wear a shirt over them anyway). But of course the pants were discontinued. Now everything I can find is the rayon/spandex which I really don't like. I don't like pants that stick to my legs if that makes sense!

I’m 5’2” and apple shaped. I love skinny jeans w/ a loose, flowy top. I think it creates a flattering silhouette. I like to buy petite size, not only for the length, but more importantly for the rise.
Talbots carries a great selection of petite plus jeans in all cuts and washes. Nordstrom also carries a lot of jeans in petite sizes up to sizes 18-20.

I have had really great luck with Lane Bryant jeans. I prefer the straight leg. I am wearing them today, in fact, and they are so comfortable.
For dress pants I'd try Lane Bryant, also. I especially love the Madison and Allie straight leg pants. Again, very comfortable and don't stick to your legs.
Check RetailMeNot for coupons. Right now there is a $25 off $50, $50 off $100, or $75 off $150 coupon.

I think skinny jeans can be very flattering on us bigger girls if they fit well and are styled appropriately. That said, if you’re not comfortable, there are plenty of other styles available. You might like a slim straight leg or slim bootcut (less fabric at the ankle than a traditional bootcut).
Have you tried Torrid for jeans? It’s an unfortunate reality that you have to try on a lot of jeans before you find just the right pair - no one here can tell you for sure what will fit and feel comfortable for you. But I think Torrid has a good range of jeans actually cut for the plus sized figure, and they carry petite sizes both online and in store. If you don’t mind spending a little more, check Nordstrom Rack for Wit and Wisdom or Kut from the Kloth. NYDJ can also be a good option.
Hang in there - I’ll share that I just finally found a pair of gray jeans that I love. I’ve been looking for two years! They are Gap high waisted skinnies - I like the skinnies styled with a top that reaches to the hip and that fits well. I’m more of an hourglass shape so a top that is not too blousy is important. If you’re more of an apple shape, you might like a babydoll style top.

I recommend trying White House Black Market. Their pants tend to have a larger waist than other brands. And somehow they still make you look slimmer. I have several pairs of pants and jeans from there and get compliments every time I wear them. I really like Silver jeans too. OP said to try Maurice's and they carry several brands including Silver.

I am shaped that way too. I'm 5'3" and a size 16 on bottom. All my weight in in my belly. I have no butt, no hips. My legs are relatively thin. I like Molly & Isadora and Kut from the Kloth. All jeans and pants I've had from these two brands look flattering on my figure.

I like Gloria Vanderbilt jeans. They have some give to them. Costco had them last year but not this year ( yet). I have seen them in Kohl’s. They hold in my middle. Lee jeans are too tapered anymore, so I broke up with them. Talbots were cut too low for me. You have to find what fits you. I liked finding them at Costco since I was changing sizes and they were cheap. Whatever Costco is carrying now is not working, boo.

Talbots carries plus petite sizes. I like their jeans.
Wait for a sale. Put some in your online cart, if they don't have a store near you. They will email you sales info. They have $8 flat rate shipping.

I bought bootcut jeans at old navy bc I dont do skinny either, but found them too wide. I took them to be altered and they made them more straight and it was the best $10 I've spent.

I am tall, and a bit overwt. carry my wt in my middle. I usually wear Ny and Co. Jeans. I really like them, as they are long enough for me. I don't need to get a tall, and have a bit of stretch to them. AND they are reasonably priced. esp with sales. The other thing I would recommend is doing a style box from Dia and Co. I LOOOOOVED their pants from them. They do only plus size, and let me tell you, they rock with the pants/jeans. you could do a box and just request jeans and pants. It's a 20$ style fee, but if you keep a pair, they deduct the cost. It was worth it for the several pairs I got thru them. They sent me skinny jeans, which I never would have picked out myself, and now they are one of my favorite pairs, and fit me perfectly.

I'm shorter after joint replacements, so now 5'2" and weigh much more than I should. I'm at the gym 2 hours a day but after a loss of 60 pounds, that's it. I still need to lose another 50, but now menopause has hit along with my already inactive thyroid issues. The weight I have lost has left a very loose saggy belly. I also have horrible osteoarthritis and my hands are painful most of the time so little buttons aren't easy so honestly pull-on pants are the most comfortable for me. I love these because the denim looks normal, not like gramma denim. And they actually come in petite - it seems that a lot of brands lose petite once you're into the plus sizes. I also have Lee Dream Jeans which are skinny jeans. The waist is traditional, but extra roomy and soft, plenty of stretch. Kohl's pull-on jeans

I have a terrible time as well.. weight around the middle but I am tall. I can't ever find anything that doesn't need hiking up every 3 seconds. And I hate wearing a belt.

Look at Costco.com online for the GV Amanda jeans that they used to carry in store. They still have some sizes in black and also a two pack in white/blush for $19.99. Usually the clothing ships free.

If you are comfortable shopping online, try Freckled Poppy. It's an online boutique, they have a Facebook page and on app in the app store. They do fit videos for all their items, and they have video and pictures of multiple size models for almost every single item, but for sure all the jeans.
I didn't like wearing jeans much, but I have bought two from them that I absolutely love! I'd recommend them, but since I'm 5'11", I have the opposite problem and I need long jeans!
They also have a great return policy.

I got my best pants from JJill. I love them. Cut just right. Also got lots of cute pants at Roamans online.
But when it comes to good fit, Catherines does build in extra in the places plus size needs not just all over. Christopher and Banks has cute styles and good prices. I am not a Lane Bryant fan.
I was your same size and height but I had gastric bypass a year ago. I'm in size 8 now. Wish me luck I can keep it off.

5ft 2'' size 20 here. I wear skinny or I have some slim cut, slimmer than straight leg. I am in the UK so brands are different. I always go for jeans with stretch and high waist. I find them flattering and wear them to work with tunics or layered tops.

You might like the wit and Wisdom Itty Bitty Bootcut jeans from Nordstrom. They are on sale for $40 right now. Very stretchy and comfortable but not too flared. Also search for “straight” jeans from your favorite brands.

I love all my jeans that I get from Old Navy. I have been wearing the curvy skinny jeans all summer. But you said you don't want a skinny jean. I did pick up a pair of Slim Straight that I am liking almost as much as the skinny ones. These are not stick straight but not a boot cut. Just a nice cut. I am curvy but tallish. 5'7". You might want to look into these. If you go to the link and look under the picture, you will see an option for a size 10 model. It will give you a better idea how these fit on someone other than a tall, size 4 model. Old Navy Slim Straight.

I think tapered / skinny jeans are way more flattering on rounder body types than anything with a wider leg! I refuse to wear bootcut jeans because I immediately look shorter and fatter in them. So don’t pass off the skinny jean option!!

I shop mainly at Torrid for all my clothes...their jeans are really good. They have charts in store and online that help fit you for your body shape.

While Avenue has closed their stores, they still have an online presence.
They have a tummy tucker jeans that I discovered last year & love. Comfortable, dark wash, they didn’t have them over the summer but are adding back to their line of denim.

Have you tried Maurice's? They have plus sizes and their jeans have a lot of stretch. While I'm not plus sized my ass and thighs are considerably bigger than my waist which poses it's own problem. Maurice's jeans fit me very well.
