Tonight I'm going to make lamb chops, a potato product and the rest of our skinny green beans. What's on your menu?
leannec, how did week 1 go for you?
KelleeM, how are you doing today? On our last weekday of Dick Martin week, do you want to share a favorite story about him? Thinking of you and your amazing husband.

Tonight we are going out for dinner to celebrate DH’s birthday, which was Wednesday. I had chosen a Lebanese restaurant that we have ridden past several times, but when I tried to book online there were no tables available tonight. Last night, DH looked at their website and was able to get a table at 7:30, so we’re going. From looking online, I want to order one of their set menu ‘feasts’.

I have a pot of pinto beans boiling right now and have some chicken I need to use. Thinking of making chicken with rice and beans for dinner.

So last night I get a message from my mom telling me to meet her and my sister at 5:45 today. And I'm combing my brain...what did I commit to? So I message my sister telling hero forgot where we were going. We are apparently doing a riverboat cruise tonight featuring fall beers and hard ciders. Dinner will be served.
So that's my plan for tonight.

I had a really poor night’s sleep and was showered and dressed by 4:40 so I drove to the beach where Dick and I spent many evenings the first summer that we met. He called all of the seagulls there Louie but I have no idea why. I waited for the sun to begin rising then got out and listened to the waves crashing and snapped a couple of photos. Sometimes, in the cold winter months, I’d ask him to take me to the beach “just to make sure the ocean was still there”. He thought I was crazy but he knew it meant a lot to me so we’d go. I’d only get out of the car for a few minutes if it was really cold. I’ll add a photo from this morning in a minute. Oh, I stopped at a restaurant we used to go to for breakfast on my way home. I wanted a real breakfast although the easy thing would have been a sandwich from McDonald’s and I pushed myself to go in and sit alone and enjoy my breakfast. It was hard but I’m glad I went. Every time I do something difficult I tell myself how proud Dick would be. Big surprise...I still have no kitchen sink. As I told my sister, one of the most frustrating parts of this is that Dick would have had it replaced the first day. If he couldn’t have done it himself he would have found someone who could do it. He wasn’t one to life his life in a state of upheaval. I’m grateful for the help I’m receiving but think I may have been better off in the end had I just hired the job out. Last night dd didn’t need dinner so I ate the last of the rechauffe. Tonight is definitely Chinese take out.

I am proud of you KelleeM for forging forward in this most painful time of your life. You are strong. You are brave. You are loved.
Yesterday I went to see Kait at school. We had pedicures, flu shots, and ate Pho. I really know how to show that girl a good time! HAHA It was great visiting with her and she is so much more relaxed that midterms are over. Man, that girl was wound up!
Dinner tonight is going to be Dicks's Chinese Pie Alaska Style!!! You know that means that I will be using moose burger! Would Dick get a kick outta that?!?!

Thanks for sharing the photo and memory KelleeMA widowed friend told me that each "first" without her husband was very difficult. Today was your first trip to the beach and your first breakfast out. But with each first accomplished, she began to get stronger and you will too. Be patient with yourself; this will take some time. This weekend I'm taking a quick trip to the north Georgia mountains (just 2 hours away) to see a friend. I'll leave DH with a pot of chili and lots of sides. After school I need to go to the store, make that chili, get laundry done, and get packed. With all that, dinner will be YOYO.

We're playing pickleball and it's my turn to sit out. Not sure what's for dinner yet. I'm not sharing the coconut chicken recipe because the glaze formed a rock in my measuring cup that was very hard to get out. The chicken was very tasty though.

The Birdhouse Lady...Dick’s parents owned a store. When he was 16 he quit school to work with his Dad full time. His Dad decided that Dick should learn meat cutting so off he went driving from MA to OH alone. He learned to cut all of the traditional meat that you would expect people to eat. When he was 18 he decided he wanted a side business and opened “Dick’s Venison Shop”. During hunting season he’d have dozens of deer waiting to be cut and packed. I know he also cut bear, elk and caribou. I’m not sure he ever cut a moose. I’m sure you can guess that he wouldn’t eat any of these animals but I know he’d approve of you making your Chinese Pie Alaska style!!

As the self-appointed scribe of The Tribe, I’m going to request that you keep track of your posts, KelleeM. Either copy and paste them into an easily accessible document or print them out. Somehow, keep close the written record of your thoughts and stories you are sharing with us and with others. It is a welcome and much-appreciated joy for your sisters to read it here. It is a priceless gift to yourself now and in the future. ❤️

Hugs, KelleeM. I need to see the ocean and hear the waves regularly, so completely understand your pull to check it is still there. Beautiful photo. DH is on his way back from MN, but has to head to a job site in Los Angeles when he lands, so I'm not sure if he'll be home for dinner. I did make a great vegetable stock yesterday but didn't feel like making soup. I might make some tonight or treat DS to take out if it is just the two of us eating.

Happy Friday All!! Home made burgers and Caesar salad is on the menu tonight. KelleeM definitely keep these memories close to your heart for the tough times. Ds is going to a sleepover at a friends place tonight with a bunch of baseball buddies. The boys are all 16/17 It is about 30 minutes from our house and I usually gripe about driving but tonight one of the boys is driving, so although I am happy I don't have to drive I am worried about this kid driving. Guess it has to start sometime and it is only two of them so not a whole carload of teenage boys

leannec I hope that you are doing well. KelleeM I am sorry that you didn’t sleep well. You are a strong person to go to the restaurant. What wonderful memories about you and Dick and your picture is lovely. Yesterday, my DH took my ODS to work and surprised us with bringing dinner home. So we never had to make dinner. So tonight instead of sloppy joes we are making Dick’s Chinese pie and serving it over mashed potatoes. That’s how my mom served it to us, when I was young.

There’s rechauffe chicken noodle soup here or I can make a tuna sandwich, or both. But if I get out this afternoon, I’m going to pick up a make & take pizza. Because pizza. KelleeM , you are brave and strong. Hope you have a kitchen sink soon! ETA I just noticed. Take & bake, not make & take. Make & take is for mini paper crafting projects.

We've been out doing errands in a cool drizzle, both this morning and after lunch. I'd just as soon stay in tonight but it's the usual Friday night dinner with friends...unless TS Nestor arrives before then with his wind and rain. I'd be happy to stay home and do breakfast for dinner. We shall see.

KelleeM - Thank you for sharing that lovely photo, as well as your thoughts and feelings as you travel this new path. As the others have said, you are a strong woman and will make it through this. I do hope you have a new sink very soon though! Tonight is Game #5 (and hopefully the last one!) of the ALCS so dinner will be something sofa-friendly. DH will most likely show up with his Friday sack of Shake Shack burgers. I've told him not to get me one. Instead, I'll have some rechauffe or pop the frozen pizza in the oven. Go Astros!

KelleeM, beautiful photo! BF will be back tonight, so we'll do ribs and coleslaw. I was hungry for chicken last night, so I threw some drumsticks in the oven last night and had a couple with some baked onion ring snacks and chocolate covered peanuts.

I worked 6-2 yesterday. I’m used to getting up early but not functioning and at work. I was so tired when I got home I made dh go get nachos. They were mostly cheese no chips. I was so tired I ate what I could and came home. KelleeM keep sharing and taking care of yourself. The beach looks beautiful
