I found some old Mod Podge, and it seems really thick. Pudding thick. Isn't it usually thinner? Do you think it is okay to use?

Yes, it's usually much thinner. Although I haven't used it in years I remember it being thin like a liquid. I would buy a new jar just to be safe instead of trying to use this old jar on a project.

It should be like Elmer's glue thick.

Pudding consistency doesn't concern me. Just add water to thin it out. That's what I always do.

Add water, mod podge is expensive.

@megmc do you think mod podge is just elmer's glue in a different bottle? I remember looking up different glue recipes and have always wanted to try elmer's glue for mod podge projects. ANYONE tried this?

Thin it with water is my vote, but you may have trouble mixing in water. I used some Matte Gel (very similar to Modge podge) recently that was pudding thick and hated the results when dry (bumps & hazy) . I used a very wet brush to thin it as I redid the project and it turned out much better! I used the wet brush to stroke the gel on and brushed over it multiple times to mix it, if that makes sense, rather than trying to mix water into the gel medium.

ANYONE tried this? It's pretty dang similar. I've used Elmer's multiple times on not so important projects and it was fine.

I may try a project and live on the wild side and use Elmer's when I'm all out of mod podge.

It should be like Elmer's glue thick. that - it should be thin enough to pour.
About using Elmer's glue. They are really two different things. Mod Podge has some UV protections and also some shellac type stuff in it and works for the long term better than any white glue.

I’m pretty sure Mod Podge and Elmer’s are two really different things. Mod Podge is more like clear acrylic paint than glue and it has a more plastic-y finish when it’s dry. And I agree it should be runnier than pudding, it should be more like honey or syrup.
