EEK... I don't want to see a hairy man's leg with a tampon string hanging down. WTH is that? Not sure of that marketing plan. Am I missing something?

We can all talk about periods in our thinx period underwear, including the men? Got it.

But since men don't most cultures have it as a taboo topic. They are promoting a product for the comfort of women.

I would think that THINX wants women to get talking about their product. Really, why are period topics taboo? I need to give my puberty talk to my 10 year old twins (boy/girl) soon and not separating them to talk about both body types and what is going on. I think it's important for men to know what's going on during this time of a girl's life.

That segment was too over the top for me, too. I think I understand where they're tying to go, but how did that scene contribute to the overall message. Very much in poor taste.

Here is a story about a boss who thought tampons were dildos! It's only one of similar stories that can be found on the web. Some guys think women can control their periods like pee. The lack of basic knowledge about women and their bodies is mind boggling sometimes. All this in "first world" countries. www.boredpanda.com/tampons-feminine-hygiene-products-luxury-tax-menstruation/

Commercial didn't bother me at all. As Volt said, it's just making the point that if both men & women had periods, it would never have been a taboo subject. There'd be no embarrassment. No euphemisms when publicly talking about tampons or pads or having your period.
Think about it this way. There are penis enhancement supplement commercials, little blue pill commercials, ribbed for her pleasure condom commercials on every day on tv, never trying to be discreet about their product, proudly stating that he'll gain inches, stay harder, longer, etc.
And then we have tampon commercials to whisper about the tampons that have the tube that slides into the other tube applicators, so that the tampon can fit discretely into your hand and no one needs to know it's "that time of the month."

I think the message of the commercial is terrific, and I wish there were more like it. I do, however, agree that the tampon string segment is a little over the top.

I think it's important for men to know what's going on during this time of a girl's life. I’d get on that talk ASAP, there are 9-10-11 year olds who are already getting their periods in elementary school! I started talking to my DD about those topics (age appropriate, of course) when she was probably about 5-6 years old. The neighbor was pregnant with twins and DD had questions which I answered factfully. She has been very willing to ask me about anything, and I answer because I don’t want her looking elsewhere for answers. I also didn’t want her to get her first period at school and have her not know what was happening, which was what happened to my older sister. I didn’t grow up with a mom who EVER talked to me about those things, and I didn’t want to be that mom. I thought it would be a very awkward topic but we’ve actually had quite a few conversations and it has been a lot easier than I thought. I agree that it’s good for *both* genders to have a clue what is going on with the opposite one. Boys go through a lot of weird hormonal stuff too. It helps to explain a lot of the weirdness that is adolescence, IMO.
