I have a lower end HP Envy and a Canon Pixma. Anything I can do to improve photo quality? I use Epson photo paper. Photos aren’t crisp and seem to have a dark or yellowish cast to them. As much as I’d like an Epson PM 400, that’s more than I’m willing to spend. I do have a temperamental Selphy, but I think it’s just too expensive for the ink and paper although I do love the print quality. I have tried editing the photos, but not really sure how to do it best for home printing. Any suggestions?

Make sure you’re buying genuine ink and buy the best quality paper you can afford. I love the Epsom premium glossy.

Are you setting up your print quality to HIGH? This is so important, and so many people don't do it.
I have a Canon Pixma and the prints are stunning. But I always make sure I go in to the print menu and change my paper to the type of photo paper I am using, and to change the print quality to HIGH.
I also use good photo paper. I buy mine from Red River paper, but I also use some Canon paper that comes free with ink.

I have an older HP Envy, it wasn't very expensive. I found if I set the quality to best and tell it I'm using photo paper and then use the actual HP brand photo paper the results are surprisingly good. It doesn't make the darkest of blacks but for a print here and there so I don't have to run to the store I'm usually happy.
