With the shadow cast and props and yelling at the screen? I haven't gone in over 2 decades, but DS's college is doing it next weekend. I'm hopeful he will go and he seems okay if I go. They've had showings around here lately, but no props allowed.

Not in a movie theatre but a showing in a large university conference room. It was an absolute blast! This was probably sometime around ‘89-‘90.

In high school I went dozens of times with other marching band members. It was a regular “thing” back then and one theater had late-night showings every weekend.

They've had showings around here lately, but no props allowed. It would be great to do it with your son! We have a chain here - Alamo Drafthouse - that has a few special screenings of different “classic” movies each month where they even provide the props. Needless to say, when they show Rocky Horror, it is usually sold out.

Yes. Many times. Theaters here do it every Friday in October. I went two weeks ago. This coming Friday I’m going to a live performance at a drag club. It’s going to be a riot!

Back in the day, the only way to see it was in the theater. In my hometown it was a regular weekend thing with midnight shows at a small independent theater. Costumes, props and active audience participation were part of the event. Great memories.

Ditto - just take out the marching band members. We didn’t go weekly but we went every couple of months to the midnight showing. It was fun - kind of what comic book geeks did before Comic Con.

I started going in jr high with my bff’s older siblings. I didn’t understand it at first (maybe still don’t...) but we always brought toast. I don’t even know if the theaters have those late night showings anymore.

Many, many times! Back in the late 70's -early 80's it showed every Saturday night at midnight at a theater across town. Funny thing is I worked at another theater, so as soon as our 9:00 movie ended we would all head over. It was so much fun. And I do keep the movie on my DVR and watch it every Halloween.

I've never seen it ever! It's one of those things that sounds good in theory... Ha. It is an experience. I do love the music.

Yup! It was the very first date my husband took me on that was "fancy" & a surprise to me (he gave it to my for my 21st birthday) - our first Broadway show. We also saw it a few months after that at a local theater. Both times were lots of fun.

I watched it in a theater when it first came out.. and we just clapped at the end.. long before the interactive. my brother saw it on the stage in London in 1976...

I've never seen it ever! 😱 You need to rent it ASAP! If nothing else just so you can watch Tim Curry sing Sweet Transvestite. Everyone should see that performance at least once in their life. 😁

You must see it with the props. Once was enough for me tho.

It just wouldn't be the same without all the props and audience participation.

The last time I saw it in a theater (about 10 years ago), the cast would not shut up! They seemingly had a response for every line in the movie, not just the "usual" participation. I was annoyed and the friend I took (who had never seen it) had a hard time understanding any of the dialogue. I guess I'm officially old and cranky. Dammit.

I’ve been in the musical, in a local production. The theater sold little kits with the main props for people to use. It was fascinating hearing all the things people shouted - some funny ones I’d never heard before. People in the audience always seemed to have a good time.

I too have saw it dozens of time back in the day.
We always brought all kinds of props, danced, and talked alone with and responded to the dialogue.
The only time I specifically remember is one night someone was throwing cooked rice and I got hit in the head with a cooked ball of rice - ewwww
