Anyone else doing something fun for Halloween this year??

Nice! You really rock that pirate hat! I always have good intentions to dress up even if it’s just for the kids who come to the door (DH takes DD and a bunch of the neighbor kids around on a hay wagon) but I’m usually racing around to get DD ready and out the door and never have enough time to do anything very good for myself. Sometimes I’ll throw on a witch hat but that’s about all I have time for.

Well, the patch is a no-brainer for me... I'm seriously a pirate at this point! LOL. Witch hats are definitely cool, crazy4scraps!! Have fun no matter what you end up doing.

Dh and I are going to our first ever Halloween costume party. I am going as Glinda and dh (who is 6 ft tall) is going as a munchkin. Our other friends are Dorothy, Scarecrow, Tin Man, and Cowardly Lion. One of our friends' dogs will be a flying monkey

It came with a Halloween treat box that DH ordered for us one year, and it’s actually a really nice one. I probably wouldn’t have bought it myself. I usually like costumes that are a little more original. The last time I dressed up I was Max from Where the Wild Things Are and it was pretty awesome.

I'm trying to think of what I've been in the past: Shirley Temple; a Fairy; a Boxer; a "can-can" girl... All fun, and not too many memories since I was much younger and we all drank a lot!

Believe it or not, I have NO pics from that year! The reason I had a costume at all was because I had just had foot surgery a month before and was non weight bearing. Since DH has ToTing duty with our kid and her friends from the neighborhood, I’m at home passing out the treats, and that year I just knew there would be no way I could be getting up every five minutes, jumping a gate to keep our dogs away from the front door, and get over to it and open before the kids outside bailed. I figured I needed to sit outside on our open porch in a chair, and if it was cold I’d need a warm costume to wear while I sat there and waited for the kids to come up. Max was perfect for that! I bought a fuzzy white footed onesie pajama thing with a hood from Amazon. I sewed a long brown tail and pinned it to the butt of the pajamas and made a yellow felt crown with a fur brim just like in the story book. I was going to make some big fuzzy puffball buttons for the front but never got that far. Didn’t matter, it was still pretty close and all the kids who came to the house knew exactly who I was dressed up as. I learned to sew really young and I made most of my own and my younger brother’s costumes growing up. As a teen, I made a lot of custom costumes for my sister and her family. I’ve made almost all of DD’s costumes too. Now that she is old enough to choose what she wants to be she almost never chooses anything off the rack. This year she’s into manga and wants to be Chibiusa from Sailor Moon. I’m going to cheat a little and have her wear a white leotard for the top of the costume, but will sew the sailor collar and skirt and some cuffs for long gloves we bought, make the ears on a headband for her hair and the crown and necklace out of fun foam, and will modify a pair of tall boots with pink and white wall vinyl. Should be interesting. I’m going to be pretty busy pulling it all together over the next couple weeks!

This year I’m going as a red crayon complete with a big ass cheer bow and red tutu. I’m trying to get all the teachers at my school to join in, they bring the shirt and a silly color name and i’ll Do the iron on. They money raised will go to AVID class.
My dd (8) is going as a Minecraft creeper. We made her head last weekend and got a creeper onesie.
Ds (3) is going as night ninja from pj masks. I made is mask today and when the navy pj’s and gloves come Tuesday, I can finish that one up.
Last year DH, the kids, and I went as a family of bats.
Year before I was the game of operation, DH was a surgeon, the kids were skeletons.
I love coming up with costume ideas.

You look great!
This is the first year for a while that I won't be dressing up. Halloween is on a Thursday so I'll be out at choir practice, and next door's boys have got too old for ToTing. We live in a cul-de-sac in the retired end of town, so we don't get any other ToTers.

We don't get back from England until late on the 30th, at which point we've been gone nearly a month and I didn't plan ahead. I will probably put on a dress and apron and wear the button eye glasses I made a few years ago and be other mother from Coraline. I have lots of kids that call me their other mother, so this costume makes me happy.
I did have the foresight to get Halloween candy before we left.
Oh, and I had no idea how big Halloween was in the UK.

I was all too familiar with Manga when DD was a teen (it could be very naughty!)....... The Sailor Moon song is stuck in my head forever...... I could have totally used help from a pro like you--DD31 wanted me to help her just pin up the cape-thing she got for her Dr. Strange outfit. It's about 9" too long, but it's all uneven and it was tough to even pin up for me. She should have had it professionally hemmed, but typical DD, she didn't think of it until now and her event is on Saturday. Oh well! Somehow I made DD a Princess Peach outfit when she was about 10. I made the entire thing by hand. I took the figurine into the sewing section and just chose material and sewed it all. Came out GREAT, but she had to be really careful with it. One day I'll learn how to actually sew! LOL.

malibou : I know who the mother is from Coraline. Woot! Sounds adorable! Have fun, "mom"!! LavenderLayoutLady : You sound like me. At this point I have a stash of outfits, but they're all pre-made. When my 1st husband and I used to throw (huge!!) Halloween parties, we'd have a costume contest. Everyone would plan their outfits or themes so far ahead and make their outfits from scratch. Some people are so very inventive!! RedSquirrelUK: Sounds like my norm..... In that case, I usually just don some devil horns and call it a day......

Arrrrgh.....shiver me timbersss! You are such a pretty pirate! How is your eye doing lately? If memory serves correctly; you were having severe pain again recently AND having problems getting your MUCH NEEDED pain meds. It's very upsetting how it's gotten! A dear friend of mine is also having huge issues with her prescriptions, too! She has been through breast cancer and multiple other surgeries, and is in CONSTANT pain. There was a recent thread that I read here last night where a pea had done her routine urine screen, and the result showed that she had taken a medication she'd never taken, nor had she never HEARD of it. I meant to comment and send her (( hugs )) but I was so upset and tired, I didn't want to ramble. It kills me how many people out there are suffering!!! I'm sooo sorry about DH having ANOTHER tumor...poor guy! ....sending (( hugs )) and prayers to both of you!

My son's elementary school does a theme each year for all the staff. One year it was Disneyland. My son's teacher and aides were Snow White and the dwarfs. I thought the staff dressed as tourists with mickey ears were funny! The female principal was Walt Disney. They've also done minions and the principal was the guy with the long nose.

This year DH and I went as Walter White (Breaking Bad) and his beloved Blue Sky meth.
DH is already a bald guy with glasses and an affinity for plaid shirts and khaki pants ;-) so he only needed a pork pie hat and a fake goatee and he was Heisenberg.
I wore a blue trapeze shirt, blue leggings, blue wig (plus blue eyeshadow, liner, mascara, liipstick). I pinned baggies of blue rock candy all over me, and had a button that read "99.1% pure".
We won the couples costume prize at our party!

I'll be at the hospital with DH (he has another bladder tumor--so far it's contained), but I might dress up to make him happy @bergdorfblonde Arrrgh and shiver me timbers on DH having ANOTHER tumor tumor! How's your eye doing? What does DH think of your fun costume ? Meaty wanted to show you when he was a pirate, 9 years ago. He and Sophie also said to send you and DH lotsss of sweet bulldog (( hugs )) and prayers!

I will run out of any refills for my 3 prescriptions in 2 weeks. Frustrated!

You and your husband seriously need a break! I am so sorry you continue to deal with so much. But you are absolutely adorable in the process!
I hate to wear costumes or have makeup on my face or wear anything on my head. I'm tons of fun at Halloween! I have dressed up in the past but seriously counted the minutes I had to be in the costume or at the party until I could get home and take it all off.
Tonight my daughter and I are going to see The Wizard of Oz at the ballet. We are wearing normal clothes that represent Dorothy and the Wicked Witch. Quinn just so happens to have a blue tiny plaid blouse. She's wearing it with a pair of white jeans, her red Tom's, and her hair in braids. I am wearing a black dress and a pair of bright green tights and black boots. It looks super cute without actually being a costume!
