Yay for working sinks, time to knit/crochet/craft, fall days and special names for special people. There truly is no relationship quite like that of the grandparent (or great-grandparent) and child. I've always been Grandma to our nearly-25-year-old granddaughter but it's a family tradition that goes back several generations. Always makes me think of my own grandmas so I'm happy with the name.
The house is filled with the aroma of a chuck roast simmering in the crockpot. Carrots, mashed potatoes and gravy will round out the meal. With luck, there will be some left over for soup later in the week.

I didn't plan anything for dinner. DSO was going to the pub with a mate in the afternoon, and I assumed he was going to get something to eat there. DS was going to a mate's place for his birthday. DD was going out for dinner with her dad. DSO ended up getting home at 6:30pm and hadn't eaten, so I just cooked up some bacon and poached eggs, served on top of an avo, chilli and goat's cheese smash. This is what I posted on Facebook today ... it really represents me Hahahaha love it! Add "my MacBook" and that's me too. Dinner will be the ziti with chicken and broccoli I’ve been threatening to make. Funny co-incidence..... we were eating dinner on the couch watching some reno show on TV, and a woman on the show mentioned that baked spaghetti is her favourite meal. DSO asked me what the heck is baked spaghetti, and I said "Oh, that's called ziti." But then I looked it up, and according to Mr Google, "ziti" is the actual type of pasta - like penne or rigatoni. So I'm curious to know what y'all mean when you talk about ziti. And if it's worth making..... recipe please!

I decided to be Oma to my granddaughter. I like how it sounds and think it will be easy for her to learn. Some of my family were a bit surprised, but that’s their problem. DH decided on Farfar, which is the Swedish for the paternal grandfather - someone in their office up there said it when he was talking about the impending arrival, and he liked it, so that’s what he is. I like it. I am almost full German descent. I don't want to be grandma for sure. I kind of wanted Gigi. Because my last name starts with g. Grandma G. But my mother insists that her great grandkids will call her Gigi short for great grandma. So I'm leaning toward oma. A friend of my nephew call's my mom, (nephew's grandma) g - ma. (rhymes with oma lol) I think because she really wasn't her grandchild, but everyone else was calling her grandma. But, it has stuck. I like the sound of it.

You guys with big plans for what the grandkids will call you ... ya know they’re just going to call you whatever they feel like, right? Some of them will do what you say, but plenty of them will choose their own, and you will think it’s adorable and go right along with them. I was first-born on both sides and called both grandmothers Mimi, which stuck for the rest of the kids, too. Then our lone cousin came along years later, with his stiff college-professor parents, and insisted on calling our Mimi “Grandmother.” He still refers to her that way now, all these years later. Yes, he has a Ph.D himself. I called my grandfathers Pipi. Yes, I did. Until I went to school and learned that was an embarrassing name. (They were good sports about it.) We switched to Grandpa after that. Always Mimi and Grandpa. Then my son came along and couldn’t say grandma, so he started calling his grandmothers Mama instead. I didn’t like that and eventually taught him Grandma Mama (for my MIL) and I guess my mom just became Grandma. (She had wanted to be called Granny.) My MIL died 15 years ago, but to this day, my kids refer to her as Grandma Mama and even the 10yo knows of her as Grandma Mama. Then the 10yo came along and obediently called me Grandma. Cuz he’s such a good boy. So good luck, all y’all. Maybe you’ll be what you say you’ll be and maybe you’ll be what they say you are, and you will love it. Unless it’s Pipi. xx Currently there is rechauffe pizza and tuna salad. So I’ll eat one of those tonight. Right now I’m working on turkey stock, but I’m not sure I love how it smells. I might have left the carcass in the freezer too long (ya think??). So I’ll see how it tastes once it’s had a chance to get well done. xx AussieMeg , I think ziti is sort of large, ridged tubes, but I’m not positive, because I’ve never used it, because I hate the name. I’m sure it tastes just like other pastas, but the name is icky. Baked spaghetti is a very specific dish that involves a lot of cheese and also some eggs mixed in, for some reason. I’ve never made that before, either. I do take my leftover spaghetti and meat sauce when I make it fresh, and layer it in a casserole dish with lots of mozzarella. It goes in the freezer and then into the oven when I’m ready for it. That’s my lazy (and delicious) version ... and I like it better than the freshly made spaghetti. xx teddyw , I’m sorry your dad is at that stage. So hard for everyone involved, on so many levels. KelleeM . I’m glad you have a sink. scrapmaven , I’m sorry you aren’t feeling 100%. xx Sorry I talked so much!!

Yes, he has a Ph.D himself. Ph.D in himself made me giggle.....I'm sure we've ALL known someone(s) like that! ETA: Ooops! Sorry, I thought you were jokingly saying he had a PhD IN himself (i.e. HE is his fave subject......hee hee). My Dad's mother was ummm.....shall we say .......a bit aloof, annnnd snobby. I only met her 2 times in my life. Anyhoooo, we called her "Grandmother" too---soo formal and stiff! We would over-enunciate it and use our faux British accents..."Grrrand--muthaaa" Thankfully, we had a sweet, fun "Grandma" on my Mom's side. I think "Pipi" is an adorable name, it sounds French. I've never heard the word, ever......and am afraid to google, so if you feel like sharing what you found out about it later, please share. I've shared this before, but my Mom chose a CUTE name ( " Muffy" ) when my sister was pregnant. Most of us thought it was a sweet, cuddly name. Welllll, either my sis or my Mom found out it can also mean "lady parts", so she switched to "Nana", which I also think is a sweet name. Some of us thought it would have been FINE if she'd kept "Muffy", and it bugged some of us that such a big deal was made out of it. I had never and STILL haven't ever heard that word used for "that". I just think of those muffs that people wear in the winter. and sidebar....after your post, now I want spaghetti casserole VERY badly !!!!!
