I happily hand out to anyone who seems to be in the proper spirit. If you come up with no costume and are all "where's mine" in a threatening way, then no - you're not getting any. If you look like you're 40, have no costume and no child with you, ring the bell and smile at me? You get the same as anyone else (though you might not be as excited about the spider rings and bouncy balls as the other T-or-Ters. Have you actually had people come up to you with no costume and demand to know where their candy is in a threatening way?!? I wasn't tagged but no.

I actually take my goodies to a friend's house where the neighborhood goes ALL OUT for Halloween. The dads take the kids around, and the moms stay & hand out - but to make it more fun, we group up at one house. Kids love to just go down the line and get stuff from like 6 different people all at one stop! We live in the country, so no one would come to our house and it's a pain to take DD around (lots of costumes don't work real well in/out of the car/seatbelt), so we've gone to this same neighborhood since she was 2 (now 12), so it's our Halloween tradition.

Sometimes teens feel that they are too old for trick or treating until the time comes and they are caught up in the excitement of it. I say let kids be kids. If you show up at my door on Hallowe'en, no matter what your age, no matter whether you're in costume or not, blue bucket or open hands, you'll get a treat. Same for me. I’m not going to complain about kids growing up too fast then deny them candy because they aren’t dressed up the way I think they should be.

Oh, the blue buckets. We are of two very different opinions in my household! My daughter who has high functioning Autism (Aspergers) is not a fan. You do not want to be her friend if you aren't into politics and hearing about disability rights. This is her post
"HI! Please don't do this. Autism Speaks- which is highly reviled by autistic people such as myself- started the whole blue and autism thing with Light It Up Blue. They chose blue because it's a color associated with males- which fits their wrongful idea that autism is a "boy thing". Autistic people prefer #RedInstead! Also, these pumpkins look too similar to the teal ones, which signify that a child has food allergies/a house has allergy friendly options for said children.
I do not feel strongly either way. Then my very black and white thinking daughter gets mad that I'm not as enraged. I don't find it necessary and confusing because the teal pumpkins signifying allergy friendly homes are already being used. I did not even know there was a red instead movement. I see it as a kind thing if people choose to participate. We did merchant trick or treating tonight with my non verbal son who wore a skeleton t-shirt. All went well without a blue pumpkin. He said trick or treat and thank you on his iPad in a Yoda voice. It was so loud I don't think they heard his requests anyway. Probably best he told a few people no and to go away please.

refugeepea Hallowe'en is this upcoming Thursday, October 31st. Do you have a different day to Trick or Treat? My town does merchant Trick or Treating the Friday before Halloween. Regular Halloween is always on the 31, unless it falls on a Sunday, then it's Saturday. I live in Utah, lots of Mormons.
