If you shop the sales, you can get a good tree for $100-$150. I got two last year on black Friday or during black Friday weekend. One from kohls, one from home depot
Our old one still lit up, it just looked very small with our high ceilings.

With all the sales starting already, I saw a 6 or 7 foot tree online for 38 dollars. Shipped. I don't recall where though...
In recent years, I've downsized the tree and always get a prelit usually purchased for next to nothing after Christmas.
If the lights ever die, I'll donate and buy again.

They are a little pricier than that, but we order from www.hammacher.com The trees are beautiful and they have a lifetime guarantee. I'm willing to pay more to know that its guaranteed and i have returned a few things with no problems at all.

Because of my allergies, we went to an artificial tree a few years ago. Best. Decision. Ever! For the first time in forever, I didn't wake up with a head full of snot the morning after we put the tree up. I'd been delaying putting the tree up later and later each year because I knew how much the tree affected me. But I grew up with real trees and liked how they looked...
We went with a prelit tree from Lowe's. I thought it looked the most real. I was also looking for a tall, fat tree because our rooms were large and had 10' ceilings. We chose a prelit tree because I figured that if they lights went out, we could still string regular lights on it. So I really wasn't missing out on anything.

My XDH always insisted on real trees, and was so cheap he waited until the week before Christmas, so we always had Charlie Brown trees. We were divorced Dec 5th coming up on 10 years ago. I had a real tree that year, because we wanted to keep things 'normal' for our then 10 year old. The week after Christmas, I went to this place in Central Illinois called Jeffrey Alans and bought the most beautiful fake tree I'd ever seen, on sale 50% off I think I paid $175. Non lit for me. First of all, my ADD kicks in every year and I enjoy deciding between white or colored lights. I just never know what I'll want year to year. It's a curse. I don't mind putting on the lights, and my motto is, "There is NEVER enough lights". So I would always add more lights, even if I had a pre-lit tree. But every year, I consider patenting a "Christmas Tree Turner" that I can set the tree on that I can control with a foot pedal, like a sewing machine, to assist putting on and then taking them off. Of course, I would have a high gear for taking them off....ZZZIP and that would be done.

We had a pre-lit that fit perfectly into the space we had available so when the stupid lights went out a few years later we cut off the lights so we could keep using it. We finally replaced that one a couple of years ago with a slightly bigger one and I insisted on unlit. It's not a huge tree so it's not that hard to do the lights (especially now that DS is approaching 6 feet tall!

Of course, I would have a high gear for taking them off....ZZZIP and that would be done. We bought a bunch of light sets at Costco last year that have a little control box on the end of the string that gives you the option to have solid white lights, solid colored lights or the third option is to fade from all white to all colored then back to white, etc. It would totally solve your dilemma! Want white lights? Sure! What colored lights? No problem! Can’t decide? You don’t have to, you can change your mind as often as you like! They are Sylvania Stay Lit Color Changing Mini LED Lights and they weren’t even all that expensive. I don’t see them on their website now but they might have them in store, or Amazon or another retailer probably does. We bought about ten boxes of them for the outside of our house because I like colored lights during the Christmas season but DH only likes white ones for after Christmas through about February just to brighten up the outside of the house when it’s so dark at night in the winter. Now we’re both happy!

Check out Michaels this week. They are on sale, and we had one from there (Unlit) that lasted forever!! I just got rid of it in fact, but not because there was anything wrong with it, but it was too big for me to handle by myself. I have to have an artificial tree, as I am allergic to real ones unfortunately!! I used to get sick every Christmas until we bought the artificial tree! I mean pneumonia sick or bronchitis.

When we moved from Texas 3 years ago, we left our two ten year old pre-lit Christmas trees. It just didn't pay to move them, but they both still looked good and the lights worked fine. I wonder how long they would have lasted if we had moved them. I think we bought them at Sam's one year.

I swore up and down I would never have an artificial tree... until..... the spider eggs hatched. Do you know how many spiders come from eggs. Literally a bazillion. I thought I just missed sweeping up some cat fur and then I saw the black balls of fur were alive. I hauled that thing outdoors ornaments and all.

and I don't think it would be hard to take them off and put other lights on if I wanted to. My DH cut lights off of a 12ft tree we had. What a huge pain it was! They string was attached to the branches every 3-4 inches. On a 12ft tree... First of all, my ADD kicks in every year and I enjoy deciding between white or colored lights. I just never know what I'll want year to year. It's a curse. I bought my tree because I can choose white or colored lights on it. I love having the option! OP I would find a good deal on a pre-lit tree and get it. If you keep your eye out you can find a good price in store or online. I got my 7ft tree from Home Depot (not online though)on Black Friday last year for $69. It's normally $229 and is pre-lit. If I can get 5 years or so out of it (but hoping for more) then it would be worth it.
